To be annoyed with DP for being sick on the floor?

Bubble77bee · 03/02/2025 20:56

On the way home tonight my DP said he was feeling a bit sick. I sorted dinner for our DC then took them upstairs to do bedtime while he lay on the sofa. I have no problem with doing this when he is feeling ill. Just finishing bath time and I hear him retching downstairs. He’s being sick on the dining room floor. Thankfully it’s a hard floor, but I can’t believe he didn’t make it another couple of metres to a sink or toilet. He continued to be sick on the floor while I was shouting down the stairs to him to get to the downstairs bathroom. Now it’s all gone quiet downstairs so I’m guessing he is back on the sofa and there is still sick on the floor. There is no way I am cleaning this up. Am I being unsympathetic? Or AIBU to be annoyed at him for being sick on the floor?

I can genuinely say that me or my children from about 2 years old have ever been sick anywhere other than a toilet, bowl or sink.

My husband has projectile vomited all over the place THREE times. He just stands there like a bloody fool and lets it come out.

Disgusting and childish.

Come work in a hospital. People puke everywhere, including lift landings. Very childish they are. FFS.

I dont think anyone "decides" to be sick on the floor. Sometimes when ur ill it just comes out and u cant always make it to the toilet.

Ur husbands ill and being sick, u shout downstairs to him having a go. You then hesr it go quiet and instead of checking on him you post a thread on mumsnet. You seem great.

Yep this. ^ The OP is more concerned about making a nasty thread on Mumsnet, bashing her husband who is clearly fucking ill, than actually trying to take care of him. Poor man. He has my sympathy. 😢

FeedMeBrunch · 03/02/2025 21:27

It’s actually quite funny that OP thinks her DH chose to puke on the floor out of laziness instead of just going to the bathroom 🤣

I agree. I once started to feel car sick. The driver stopped, I got out and was sick on the verge. Felt better, got back in the car and was suddenly sick all over the dashboard. Very embarrassing, and I did clean it up myself, but I definitely didn't choose to be sick there!

THIS! Thank you @XenoBitch 👏

As if everyone can control when and where they puke. And as IF people puke over 'inconvenient' places on purpose. FFS! Hmm

Some people post the most ludicrous and nonsensical stuff on here sometimes!

I’m talking about the man I live with, who will get up, stand there for twenty minutes and be sick all over the house rather than go to the bathroom as a precautionary measure.

Absolutely not comparable in any way shape or form to a person in a hospital or who has been caught unawares.

People can be caught unawares at home.
At least a person in hospital might expect to be sick.

Did you know vomiting can happen while people have heart attacks? I would check on my DH before I got angry at him.

It happened to my late husband when he had his stroke.

Oh come ON! No-one would do this. When 'the man you live with' is ill with a sickness bug, he just stands there in the house for 20 minutes, and then just vomits on the carpet or furniture, without taking a single step towards the bathroom or loo.

Please!!!!!!😂

He didn’t have a sickness bug.

I remember a nurse taking a meal to a teen patient's room. A few seconds later, nurse came running out with the tray of food and vomit. Patient had seen the food and chucked up all over it. Nurse made it to the kitchen, where the food is prepared, and vomited in the sink (where people wash their hands before they prep food). Her colleague laughed and said "you have no stamina". At least she didn't be sick on the ward. I would imagine that relatives would complain about seeing a nurse vomit.
All so instant.

I'm with you OP. He knew he was feeling sick so should have made sure to keep a sick bag or bowl within reach.

Theres no excuse for it. He needs to clean

Edit : Read your update. Lucky he got the bowl in time.

I’ve been so ill once before that I was sick as I was trying to stand up… and then all the way to the bathroom. It was awful and I was horrified, but there was no way o could have done anything else. If that’s the situation you should have sympathy for him. If he just couldn’t be bothered to get up that’s really gross - but surely no one just vomits on the floor because they can’t be bothered moving?!

Oh dear! 😬

Easily done though. As has been said (and illustrated,) people often don't CHOOSE where they vomit, and it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise!

So much judgement about not making it to the loo. I’m impressed by all of the organised pukers on here.

I was sitting on the sofa on the phone to someone when vomit shot out of my mouth so fast I didn’t even know what was happening and it kept coming for minutes all over me, the sofa, DH who was next to me, the coffee table and the floor. Stone cold sober, just a bad bout of Noro while heavily pregnant and I felt fine until that moment then like death for a week.

OP, with a wife like you he doesn’t need enemies. The contempt and lack of care for him is chilling.

When I was a teenager, I suffered from occasional hormonal related vomiting - I'd be sick just before my period.

One time, I projectile vomited so hard that it hit my bedroom ceiling. I had no warning and no chance to make it to the bathroom.

Wow, that's some power vomiting right there! Shock You poor thing. Period related nausea and vomiting (and migraines that sometimes go with them) are horrific!

That is... impressive!

I have had acid reflux related vomit. Wakes you up and and is instant. Horrible.

FindusMakesPancakes · 03/02/2025 23:21

Am I the only one who would actually go and clean up for my husband, same as I would if it was one of my children? Not because he isn't capable, but if someone is feeling that unwell, I look after them, not leave them to clean up vomit.

Fortunately for me, I grew out of it. I also used to get a bit dizzy at times...Once I felt my legs going and came to sitting on top of my accordion case. Fortunately, only the case was dented, the accordion was fine! (The neighbours might not have agreed...)

However, I'm now the possessor of a Mirena coil intended to prevent uterine cancer and at the age of 60 something, I now find myself being a bit nauseous from time to time. I've been using those OTC meds that you get for migraines to deal with it.
