So MN is now a platform for CSA images

I actually didn’t see them, but it seems that there were multiple CSA images posted on MN last night in about a four hour period and MN HQ did precisely nothing other than rely on the volunteers who didn’t sign up for this to remove them.

I’m sure the media are going to have a field day with this.

MN need to remove the ability to upload pictures now as they are now guilty of making and distributing CSA images I’d go so far as to say the owners could face criminal prosecution over this.

The ability does exist to prevent these kinds of images being posted, and MN have done precisely nothing to ever prevent it.

It was only a matter of time. They make enough money from their crappy advert placements, why haven’t this been anticipated. We know what kind of world we live in.

The second one. On multiple threads with the caption 'enjoy your kids'

Holy F**k!

Perhaps an attempt to get Mumsnet shut down. I’ve been on here for years and noticed a lot of new far right influencing type posts following the US election.

So many. I thought that was more reflective of the way the country is heading as opposed to trolls though. A lot of the “I’m not far right but…” posts have come from people I recognise as long standing MNers

And yet MNHQ remains very silent...

Why haven't they posted to say what action they're taking?

I saw that a PP had received an email, but I've not received one.

I forgot to mention that in the email, MNHQ said they'd post on site stuff shortly. I received the email at 8.01 this morning.

It’s pretty clear that MN needs to up its game by behaving like the professional organisation that it’s supposed to be these days and actually paying professional mods to watch the site at night.

This^

The email was specifically related to one thread and those that reported it.

pizzaHeart · 03/02/2025 09:00

MNHQ posted on site stuff thread about it just now

Not my experience. Most seem to have no prior posting history.

That would solve the problem specific to images - but not the wider problem of inappropriate posting, nor the use of unpaid labour to regulate the most valuable part of the site.

Unpaid labour restricts the pool of applicants and inhibits diversity. It is also probably illegal under NMW act, depending on the specifics.

I meant a quick solution to the immediate problem of images of CSA being posted when volunteers are minding the site. Not as a long term answer.

This reply has been deleted

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

Sharing the link to the only person who can remove the items would not lead to any legal action. As I posted on another thread, the law might not be perfect, but it isn't an ass.

Mumsnet is a huge site, and the person on duty needed signposting in order to remove the photos quickly.

Caerulea · 03/02/2025 12:40

Shit, this is why my thread was taken down, it must have happened after I fell asleep. Damn I'm so glad I did. What in the fuck is wrong with people?

TravellingTartan · 03/02/2025 15:35

Dear god. So sorry for anyone that saw them. I'm so glad I had an early night for once.

I don't even read CSA headlines and switch the radio off if mentioned on the news, so I think a graphic picture would push me over the edge.

I hope the police catch them soon and they have a very public trial. I mean there's so way the police aren't involved eh?

And new posters DEFINITELY should not be able to upload pictures, DM or vote.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/02/2025 07:36

Shit, that's appalling.

I think the upload pictures feature needs to be disabled or at least made subject to moderator approval.

Surely these days there must be AI technology which is capable of identifying whether an uploaded image or a link contains pictures of CSA or other illegal or explicit material.

I have ''Safe search'' on my devices and thank goodness haven't had anything untoward show up when googling.
Surely Mumsnet can pay for similar screening, that doesn't need viewing by an actual human pair of eyes?

WHY should even paid mods have to look at illegal upsetting stuff? It surely could be done by some sort of programme?

Thank goodness disabling of all images has now been stopped, and rightfully so.

CalicoPusscat · 04/02/2025 05:08

It shocked me yesterday to read what had happened. I couldn't sleep with illness but was grateful I didn't see any of them.

We'll have to wait and see how mumsnet handle it going forward.
