To be sick to death of noisy cars

Dappy777 · 31/01/2025 22:58

Is anyone else sick of these idiots who drive round in noisy, souped up cars? The engines make a screeching, high-pitched sound, and they do something to the exhaust so it bangs and explodes. One of them accelerated past me and my five year old niece today and the sound was so awful she burst into tears. I can hear them right now, even though the windows are closed. They also wake me up at night.

People round here have been complaining about this for ages. In fact, there are complaints on social media dating back over ten years. But the police just do NOTHING. No one expects the police to arrest every one of them, but if they’d only pull over one or two and fine them, news would soon spread on the idiot grapevine. Life in this village gets worse and worse every year - more and more houses, more and more traffic, and more and more noise.

I'm autistic and I hate hate hate them. To me it's an act of naked aggression- they might as well be coming up and slapping me round the head. I have no idea why it's tolerated. I can't wait until we have transitioned to all electric vehicles so we're free of this.

Cupcakerat · 31/01/2025 23:08

They’re stupid and I used to get insanely angry when they would frighten my dc

Deljay · 31/01/2025 23:10

I hate all people that do this. I hate their stupid bikes and their awful noise. It's so aggressive - the people that do it are just saying fuck you to the entire world. It makes me so angry. It spoils my life so much.

There's a man who rides past my house every day and it's so loud people can hear it on my work calls.

maddening · 31/01/2025 23:11

We recently went to London for the weekend and with a majority of the vehicles being electric it was amazing how quiet the city was - quite surreal!

Yanbu - should be illegal

DdraigGoch · 31/01/2025 23:17

I'd love it to be an MoT condition that the car must still comply with whatever noise regulations were in place when it was manufactured. There aren't enough traffic officers to enforce things on the road.

Even away from stupid exhausts, cars are still too loud and it's affecting our health:

They were all on holiday that weekend 🤣 this was all v central London though

Newyearsametroubles · 31/01/2025 23:37

When I am King (ha!) I will pass a law that sets the fine for anyone caught driving a too-loud car at £10 per possible person inconvenienced on the journey they were caught on. In a town, in most cases, the fine would cost more than the price of the car. Should stop the problem pretty quickly!!

i DETEST them too. So entitled…

100PercentFaithful · 31/01/2025 23:40

I live in the countryside and it’s mainly really loud motorbikes here. They like to go out and race each other early in the morning, which in the summer drives me mad as I get woken at 5/6am pretty much every weekend. I live a mile away from the main road!!
We went to London at Xmas and there were some crazy loud cars there driving up by the designer shops.

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 31/01/2025 23:40

Little fucker picks up his gf block of flats opposite us ,he drives into the carpark at high speed then proceeds to rev fuck out of it for five minutes before turning off ...why??
The high speed into the carpark is concerning as children live in the area oh and he tips his McDonald's crap on the road.

iPreferBooks · 31/01/2025 23:43

YANBU - also autistic. Especially the cars with the loud bang type noises which make me physically wince and cover my ears. Same with police and ambulances but at least they have a valid reason.

LameBorzoi · 31/01/2025 23:58

When you live in an area with a lot of electric cars, you start to feel this way about non electric cars.

ARealitycheck · 01/02/2025 00:07

Were none of you teenagers? It is the well known mating call of the teenage boy to have a shitty little car with a noisy exhaust. Without one a boy may as well enter the priesthood. 😂

But do these boys not realise that this just marks them out as complete and utter twats who no woman in her right mind would look twice at?

And don't get me started on motorbikers who have to sit there and rev and rev before they set off.

YeezysBeans · 01/02/2025 00:13

My six year old said this at bedtime tonight! We both agreed some cars are just ridiculously loud. If even a small child can see this I don't know what sort of IQ these car owners have going on. 🙄

There are a set of traffic lights near my house that unfortunately some drivers seem to like to use as a starting point for showing off to each other. Despite living near a main road there's no constant traffic noise, just these very jarring and very very loud cars that stand out as being on obnoxiously annoying.

Again they are teenage boys. With the fact their blood spends most of it's time below waist level and doesn't reach the brain is it a surprise. 😃

GreenTeaLikesMe · 01/02/2025 00:17

In Paris, they have noise cameras now, a sensor combined with a camera.

MermaidMummy06 · 01/02/2025 00:22

We have a few around us now. They scream down our road at max noise, several times a day. You have to stop your conversation until they're well past the house. I especially hate my retired neighbour who works on his motorbike in his man cave, right near our living room door. He revs it up for 10-15 mins at a time and it makes me want to go over there & scream at him!

HelpMeGetThrough · 01/02/2025 00:40

You can't help thinking these shitty exhausts and the stupid dump valves some have are, well, an extension of their "personality".

I used to live in Llanberis. Motorbikes went through all the bloody time on their way to the Pass

Wasn't that what handbrake turns were for?

Edited

WTF 'work' do they have to do to keep revving?

Ok, I don't really know but I have heard them go on all day. WTF are they doing?? 😂

Apparently a well known form of foreplay as described in Max Power magazine. A well executed handbrake turn could remove underwear and inhibitions in some young ladies. 😂

mjf981 · 01/02/2025 01:20

I'm on a rat run and its the motorbikes that do my head in. Rapid acceleration and very loud exhausts. Its so bloody annoying, loud and disrespectful. I hate it too.

ImustLearn2Cook · 01/02/2025 02:32

I hate it too. And plenty of teenage boys have better sense and basic consideration for others not to behave like this. So, it’s not an excuse.

It is a certain type of entitled person who gets off on disturbing other people for their own entertainment.

When I was a teenager most of my mates (girls and boys) thought of these people as try hard losers.
