To be sick to death of noisy cars

Is anyone else sick of these idiots who drive round in noisy, souped up cars? The engines make a screeching, high-pitched sound, and they do something to the exhaust so it bangs and explodes. One of them accelerated past me and my five year old niece today and the sound was so awful she burst into tears. I can hear them right now, even though the windows are closed. They also wake me up at night.

People round here have been complaining about this for ages. In fact, there are complaints on social media dating back over ten years. But the police just do NOTHING. No one expects the police to arrest every one of them, but if they’d only pull over one or two and fine them, news would soon spread on the idiot grapevine. Life in this village gets worse and worse every year - more and more houses, more and more traffic, and more and more noise.

I hate it too. And plenty of teenage boys have better sense and basic consideration for others not to behave like this. So, it’s not an excuse.

It is a certain type of entitled person who gets off on disturbing other people for their own entertainment.

When I was a teenager most of my mates (girls and boys) thought of these people as try hard losers.

Given that my teenager and his mates refer to small cars with noisy modified exhausts as "shitboxes", it doesn't seem that much has changed.

I know the police are busy, and no one is expecting them to sit in wait until one of these idiots flies by, but if they'd just fine a couple now and then news would spread. So far as I understand, it is illegal to modify your exhaust so it makes that banging/backfiring sound. If that's the case, HOW do they get away with it? Have the police decided not to enforce this law?

Also, wtf is going on psychologically? If you love cars, then great. If you work hard and save your money and buy a nice car because that's your thing, good luck to you. But why go to all effort of modifying that car so it makes a hideous screeching, exploding sound? What is it with people. Why do they go to so much effort, and get so much pleasure, from hurting and upsetting others? Or is it that they just want attention?

Ugh, there's a couple of these in my area too, and the noise they make is simply incredible. When the exhaust bangs, it sounds like a freaking bomb going off. I've been woken up a couple of times recently at 1am, 2am by these utter morons screeching around in their stupid loud moronic cars. Absolutely cannot bear it. There's a car park not too far from my house which they used to treat as a race track, revving their engines as loudly as possible and screaming around late at night. Thankfully the car park owners seem to have put a stop to that, and it very rarely happens any more.

We should take noise pollution much more seriously, especially on a small, crowded island like this, where we're stuck in small houses and flats jammed on top of one another. It ruins lives. I have know two people driven to suicide attempts by noisy neighbours. And I had a work colleague who ended up on anti-depressants because of the horrible, feral people who moved in next door.

Completely with you, I hate them too. They are unbearably intrusive and annoying, pathetic really how anyone wants one, just why?

Totally agree.Entitled and anti social idiots driving around in souped up cars give me the rage.And often the same drivers blasting out music so loud it makes your car vibrate if you're alongside them at the traffic lights .
