To ask Trump supporters how they defend this?

To be blunt, I don't understand how anyone can stand this guy. Nothing on earth would convince me to vote for him (I'm American), but he seems to have a surprising level of support on here. Over 60 people died, including a sickening number of children.

How is this ok?

“I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?” Donald Trump responded during a White House press briefing on Thursday. The latest tragic mishap marks the deadliest US air disaster in two decades.

The comments he made at the initial “ press conference “ if you can call it that about the hiring of people with disabilities was disgraceful . Sadly it’s very much on brand for him. A nasty man and to think he’s been voted in office - twice.

Diomi · 01/02/2025 04:37

I imagine many republican voters hate it when he talks like this and would much rather have a more statesmanlike president.

MrsJHernandez · 01/02/2025 04:43

meh2025 · 01/02/2025 04:30

So are you then saying that all 77 million Americans who voted for Trump are thick as pig shit?

What would you call them?

meh2025 · 01/02/2025 04:44

MrsJHernandez · 01/02/2025 04:43

What would you call them?

Ordinary people who voted as they please based on a variety of factors.

So you do think 77 million Americans are as thick as pig shit? Has that been a helpful approach?

I thought it was insensitive, yeah.

Do I regret my vote?

Absolutely NOT. Week one was the most hopeful I felt about my home country and he has exceeded my expectations. I now feel very optimistic that we can right the boat.

Sure, but GOP has been such a do-nothing party, Trump’s accomplished more in one week than they’ve done in years.

I care more about substance than style. GOP cared more about appearances, but they did nothing of substance.

I am not sure what’s going on if they are in favour of Trump demanding to have Greenland from Denmark, have Canada and the Panama Canal. It’s very different to how countries normally operate. Are you able to explain why they are all good with that?

HoppingPavlova · 01/02/2025 04:57

So it follows that I shouldn't, as a dual citizen, be interested in how people who are on here, who support him, see this?

You can do whatever you like but ….. why? Maybe 100% of Mumsnet will say he’s a dick and they can’t stand him. Maybe 100% of Mumsnet will say he’s the best thing since sliced bread. What does it matter either way? He was elected as President of the USA in a democratic society. Whatever Mumsnet thinks either way is not going to change the fact he’s in that position and it certainly won’t change anything he does. Or, are you planning, as a dual-citizen, to send him a letter informing him of the Mumsnet output so he can take it under consideration?

I will put it another way. Explain to me why 77 million intelligent Americans think there is nothing odd about their elected president demanding to have other Western countries, considering that this is not how Western countries normally operate. Now can you answer the question?

Given that mumsnet is made up of mostly Brits or people living in the uk. ( not all but the majority). So many posts lately asking people to justify voting for Trump. Why not ask in a majority US based site. You'd probably get more accurate answers from actual voters.

He does have a lot of British admirers.

Well, ordinary American people aren't exactly known around the world for their intelligence. Voting for Trump proves that. They voted in a criminal.

HoppingPavlova · 01/02/2025 05:12

So, you can stop worrying now, he has no plans to ban abortion. If you feel strongly about it, you could lobby the individual states or discuss with women in those states how best to help them, since Trump won't be banning abortion

Or, if people feel strongly about it they could move States to another that they are aligned with. I don’t live in the USA but in another country with States, and there are some here I wouldn’t live in as I consider the politicians/politics in those are crackers. There’s a level of personal responsibility in all of this.

I understand it’s not going to solve every situation, such as a 13yo raped by her father who can’t access an abortion or independently move States. But that’s a minority, the VAST majority of people in a Stare are there voluntarily, no one’s making you live in one State versus another, at a certain point quite early in life these are personal choices we all make.

Trying to imagine a Jeb! government. Just more of the same demoralizing shit tbh

Extiainoiapeial · 01/02/2025 05:14

It is not true to say he is trying to ban abortion

And you believe him? He lies like a cheap rug all the time. In his previous administration he was fact checked at different times and sometimes he would tell up to 100 lies in one press conference. Wait till Vance gets his way on an abortion ban

He is a truly disgusting man his comments after this dreadful tragedy were incomprehensible. He was already apportioning blame whilst the bodies weren't even recovered from the river and then cracks a cheap joke

Oh dear no, you have the interaction confused. A woman claimed 77 million people are as dumb as dog shit. I questioned that. You then interjected and tried to insist I answer your questions as a way of deflecting.

And, of course, it is very much a logical fallacy to insist that if people voted for Trump they agree with all the things you, personally consider unacceptable.

I can understand that it's embarrassing to have to say yes I think 77 million people are as dumb as dog shit, because it marks whoever says it as a bigot at worst or very confused at best and, possibly, not very bright.

I can see why you would rather deflect than answering yes or no.

So, to return to the original question I asked the poster in direct response to her statement - do you believe 77 million people are as dumb as dog shit because they disagree with you?

If no, then I have idea at all why you are responding to me.

If yes, see above.

Extiainoiapeial · 01/02/2025 05:18

He’s accomplished more in one week than GOP has done in years

Hahaha...yeah his revenge purge is quite an achievement...is it over 1,000 FBI agents he's sacking because they upheld law and order in bringing to justice the criminals of the insurrection

They are apolitical but sacked for doing their job and upholding democracy

Quite an achievement 🥺

R053 · 01/02/2025 05:18

I also find being told to mind our own business by American Trump supporters puzzling too. Apart from Trump demanding to have other countries, the tariffs have an impact on world trade as well. He has started with Canada, Mexico and China - who next? Of course the rest of us in the world are concerned.

Agree. EU will be next.

I’m not a Trump supporter or defender, and I find those comments crass, and quite vile.

But at the same time OP, your question is inane. In a democracy people don’t have to defend who they vote for to anyone else.

Your sanctimonious “look how shit he is” with the embedded implication of how great you are is really dull and people won’t engage with you. Why should they?

Trump made it clear he would free the J6ers as soon as he got into power and as with his other promises, he kept to it.

Can you please give links to sources discussing that FBi agents were sacked for upholding law and order and being apolitical?

You're being terribly sanctimonious while at the same time desperately deflecting. How odd.

And I cannot seem to stop you from engaging with me for some bizarre reason, do feel free to go away at any time as it's quite dull :)

The original poster did in fact engage with me, to ask me what I would call them. I answered her.

So you agree then that 77 million people are not, in fact, as dumb as dog shit and the original poster was, in your own words, crass and vile to make that incorrect claim.

Well, that's good then. So no reason to discuss further :)

They haven't been sacked yet. Apparently it's happening on Monday. There is loads of information about this out there

In answer to your question, I have no idea. I don’t know the 77 million people from a bar of soap. You are very fixated on whether I think they are stupid, but actually even very intelligent people can be attracted to personality cults and I suspect this is the case here, on a mass scale.

The fact that Trump can do basically whatever he likes, even bizarrely demanding to have countries, without Trump supporters blinking is a worry and seems cult like to me. It is off the scale to what we are used to in the West.
