To ask Trump supporters how they defend this?

To be blunt, I don't understand how anyone can stand this guy. Nothing on earth would convince me to vote for him (I'm American), but he seems to have a surprising level of support on here. Over 60 people died, including a sickening number of children.

How is this ok?

“I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?” Donald Trump responded during a White House press briefing on Thursday. The latest tragic mishap marks the deadliest US air disaster in two decades.

^Also the fact he blamed the accident on “diversity and inclusion policies” brought in by Obama and Biden.
He's an absolutely VILE man.^

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Coolasfeck · 31/01/2025 22:25

God forbid I ever end up in the situation these families are in. Nevertheless I know if I was I’d be so hurt if the leader of my country acted the way Trump has. Can some people not put HUMANITY above politics and point scoring?

The books that will be written about this period…

Scammersarescum · 31/01/2025 22:32

There is something deeply wrong with Mr Trump.

He simply is not a normal, sane human.

God bless American because they need all of the help they can get with him at the helm. My heart goes out to the normal Americans who see him for what he is.

Busywithsomething · 31/01/2025 22:38

It's beyond belief that such a ridiculous oaf is now the POTUS. What sane individual would vote for him ?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 01/02/2025 02:39

Sadly the options for election were very poor.

Firefly1987 · 01/02/2025 03:28

I'm sick to death of hearing about the bloke tbh. We barely get any of our own news it's America this Gaza that. Non-stop coverage of the election, then him going into the White House, such a yawnfest. Meanwhile the vast majority of Americans don't care enough about our country to even have a bloody clue who our prime minister is. Obviously the plane crash was terribly tragic and newsworthy but I don't really care what Trump has to say about it. He's always saying dumb shit, this isn't new. Why not try reddit which is very American centric? I come here to get away from talk about American politics, god, abortion....

XWKD · 01/02/2025 03:32

Trump is absolute scum.

Although this is awful - I'm more concerned about the abortion rights that he wants to take away (I know it's already happened but it's going to get worse) no exceptions etc I feel so so so sad for all women in the USA - it's like their rights are being stripped and the law is going backwards not forwards. And these laws and decisions are put in place by men!!!

XWKD · 01/02/2025 03:32

Trump is absolute scum.

I read an interview he did back in the 90s possibly where he said something along the lines of I'll be president one day and be in control cause the people in USA are stupid enough to vote for me. 🫠😭😱

Momtotwokids · 01/02/2025 03:47

You should really worry about your own country. No one seemed bothered when Biden was incompetent or walked around not knowing what he was doing. Trump hopefully will get our country back on track. Men don't need to be in women's bathrooms or sports. We need to take care of our citizens not illegals who come here and cause serious trouble.

So what about women's rights? How is that ok? You do realise basically all of America are immigrants anyway?

These constant demands to justify trumps latest crazy, are as boring as they are pointless.

He is the US president, there is bugger all the vast majority of MN posters can do about that.

Posters who support Trump can explain how and why they do so in light of this sort of behaviour, including posters in the US, and give us some insight into the mindset of his voters. Given the dangers he poses, that's quite important.

Are you genuinely wondering how it wd feel to have a "loved one" involved?? Or are you using the tragedy to score more points about a politician you hate?

What he said was a response ... probably to a jibe or a heckle or a sneery "question" - and likely designed to put down an aggressive questioner rather than as a message to the victims' families. But I haven't clicked your link as I don't care.

That's what I think. I said as much upthread but you've put it better than I did.

Come off it. On what planet is it appropriate for a President to score cheap points over questioners by making crass jokes about people who have died tragically? Can you imagine any other President in living memory doing that?

He has stated clearly that he has no intention of meddling with abortion and state laws about abortion. He has stated that it is up to each state.

In America, currently 13 states only allow abortion if the mother's life is in danger or other extreme circumstances, and 37 allow abortion. 4 states allow it up to 6 weeks, all the other states allow it up to 15 weeks, 23 weeks, 26 weeks respectively with 9 states of the 37 having no limits on gestational time at all for abortion.

Here he is saying definitively that he will NOT sign an abortion ban.

It is reasonable to suggest he agrees with limits on gestational time, however he has made it clear that he will not interfere with the states decisions on this.

It is not true to say he is trying to ban abortion.

As far as him saying that he won’t pass a nationwide abortion band he also said he had no idea about project 2025 and all of his policies are coming from that. He also hired many of the people involved with project 2025 to work in his new administration. You can’t believe a word the man says.

So yep, he has definitively stated several times very publicly with absolutely no possibility of prevarication that he will definitely NOT be banning abortion.

Based on the fact that he has kept every election promise up to now, there's no reason at all to think he won't follow this one through.

So at least that's one thing nobody has to worry about.

Winamy192 · 01/02/2025 04:09

@meh2025 it shouldn't be illegal anywhere for any reason! What he says and what he does are two totally different things too. Women should have control over their own body. I don't understand how anyone can think it's acceptable to force a woman to carry a child then provide zero support

Phthia · 01/02/2025 04:10

But he didn't keep every election promise last time round. In any event, allowing state laws which directly put women's lives in danger is simply not acceptable.

What I stated was that he is NOT trying to ban abortion and this is correct.

No idea why you are trying to create a strawman.

So, you can stop worrying now, he has no plans to ban abortion. If you feel strongly about it, you could lobby the individual states or discuss with women in those states how best to help them, since Trump won't be banning abortion.

Great news, one less thing to worry about.

Which election promises did he fail to meet specifically last time please?

It's great that he is keeping his election promises, as that is what politicians should do.

Whether you think the states having control over their own laws is acceptable or not is not the discussion.

Some said he is planning to ban abortion.

He isn't.

Great news, one less thing to worry about.

British liberals have to keep on and on . It's not up to us who Americans vote in . We don't need a thread every time Trump speaks .
