A man called me stupid in front of my daughter

As I was exiting the lift with my two-year-old in the pram, another pram went out ahead of us. Since I was backing out, I didn’t realize they were still near the elevator entrance, and I accidentally bumped into the woman with the other pram. I was looking at my phone while maneuvering, but I immediately apologized. However, her husband deliberately said, "She’s on her phone, she’s stupid." My little girl heard it and repeated, "Mum, are you stupid." I was absolutely fuming and really wanted to retaliate. I was so angry and told him that I already apologized and I think you're stupid and rude. I know I should have just ignored it but it really made me so angry.

OP posts:

What was she pushing then?

Nothing. Read the OP.

Did you actually even read the OP?

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:29

PeppyGreenFinch · 31/01/2025 21:24

I'm a fairly overprotective parent but I don't think I could get worked up about my kids hearing the word 'stupid' out in public.

You literally just had a go at OP for saying ‘stupid’ in front of her child?

So it’s ok if a man says it but not ok if a woman says it? Hilarious 😂

Yeah exactly I thought OP was “mum of the year” @namechangetheworld ?? Or is it nothing to get worked up about? Which is it?

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:26

Right so I can go around calling the people standing next to me dickheads to someone else and they have no right of reply because I wasn’t saying it to them?

He said it loudly enough for her toddler to hear. He escalated by having a little pathetic tantrum

Yes

Don't eavesdrop

Simple

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:29

IPM · 31/01/2025 21:25

So the OP is a big baby?

No she was responding to an insult over herself. The husband was responding to a minor harmless accident on behalf of someone else. There’s a difference

PeppyGreenFinch · 31/01/2025 21:30

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 31/01/2025 21:22

And he didn't say it TO her. "She is stupid" is directly NOT aimed at her

She then directly addressed him, calling him names

Which meant she escalated it

Even a 2yo is smart enough to know that the man was referring to OP as ‘stupid’.

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:31

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 31/01/2025 21:28

You've literally kept going on about it being an evil mens issue...

Ah but of course. I must be a man 😒

Do I?! Evil men? I used that term? Gosh I must have been hacked then

I said he wouldn’t verbally abuse a big burly 6’5” bloke. Because men largely don’t pick on someone their own size. Look out for it and you’ll see

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:27

It’s a thread about a man verbally abusing a woman. Are we supposed to say “oh what a gent”?

Also who sounded the MRA incel klaxon?

He didn't turn around and scream "You're a stupid fucking woman, using your phone."
He said to his wife "she's on her phone. She's stupid" after she'd been bumped into

OP then "verbally abused" him because she then directly hurled insults at him

See the difference?

It’s not eavesdropping if they say it next to you.

Like I’ve said “I wasn’t even talking to you” is the bully’s mantra of justification. Dont call people names near them and expect no consequences

😂

That’s ridiculous, even by MRA standards.

Yes - the difference is he started it over nothing. And OP stood up for herself.

Maybe in your world you go around being a dick and have no repercussions but one day you’ll say something horrible about the wrong person

No im not.

Again - are you quite well?

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:34

I see our little friend has dropped out the conversation once her lack of reading comprehension was pointed out 😂 most batshit thread in a long time.

If someone starts commenting on your conversation then it's ok because it's "said next you"?

So sitting in a coffee shop and you're talking about your relationship issues it's ok for the women next to you to give advice?

After all, it's just being said next to you...

namechangetheworld · 31/01/2025 21:34

JandamiHash · 31/01/2025 21:23

Given your lack of comprehension, that 100% conviction is about 4% effective

Well feel free to educate me on what exactly I'm misunderstanding here.

  1. OP is too busy browsing social media (ahem, sorry, taking her urgent GP phonecall) to look where she's pushing her pram.
  2. OP hits a woman's legs. Prams are bloody heavy and this likely hurts.
  3. Woman's husband refers to the OP as just about the tamest word you can think of, privately, to his wife.
  4. OP overreacts, in front of her kid, calling him the same name back to his face, and then turns to Mumsnet to hope that everyone will crow with her about how well she did standing up to the terrible, abusive man.

Thankfully, given the results, most posters on here aren't brainless dolts.

Wow why didn’t anyone tell me I could go around insulting people as long as I say ‘He is a fucking stupid man’ instead of ‘You are a fucking stupid man’?! 😂

If you’re talking DIRECTLY ABOUT THEM then yes I fully expect them to join in.

I can’t go to the playground at pick up and stand next to Lucy’s Mum and say to someone else “God isn’t Lucy’s mum an idiot” without some sort of backlash.

How on earth is calling someone stupid in front of them and them commenting the same as a stranger butting into your conversation 😂😂😂

Christ but you MRAs are thick

  1. No she was on her phone to the GP
  2. Again she didn’t hit anyone with her buggy. Where are you getting legs from?!
  3. Its not private if its right next to you
  4. Yes OP didn’t take name calling lying down

So what do you think of the man calling someone stupid in front of his child - by YOUR standards he’s a terrible parent wouldn’t you agree?
