To have eaten a bowl of custard for lunch?

I've been fairly consistently eating vegetable stir fry for lunch for the last few weeks. I'm WFH today and really couldn't be bothered making a stir fry (I know it doesn't take long, I just CBA with the cooking and subsequent cleaning). The only other thing we have left in the house that isn't a proper cooked meal is leftover custard from Sunday, so I just ate a large bowl of custard heated up in the microwave. Feel a bit sick now tbh but it was worth it as now I don't have to clean much. Anyone else eaten unhealthy minimal effort for lunch today?

Apart from feeling sick, if you enjoyed it at the time then you do you. I'm planning on a bowl of beans because I want them and they're left over from my dinner last night. Sometimes needs must!

LilyLovegood · 30/01/2025 13:02

Oh you just reminded me I do have a tin of beans stashed in the back of the cupboard. I should've done that instead!

Sounds delightful I bloody love custard

Ginkypig · 30/01/2025 13:05

I couldn’t do a load of custard personally but yesterday I had a really bad day.
when I got home I wanted some crisps so opened one of those big packs for sharing but I ate the whole thing 😳
felt quite ill for ages

then for my official dinner I had a packet of tilda sag aloo rice on its own in a bowl

that was all I ate yesterday 😳

ju couldn’t be arsed yesterday!

I had a tin of plum tomatoes!

I usually have leftovers from the night before or homemade soup, but last night's dinner was all eaten and I just didn't fancy soup. I have to keep my carbs down due to diabetes, and so I had tinned tomatoes on toast minus the toast. So a tin of tomatoes. With lots of Worcestershire sauce and black pepper.

It was surprisingly OK (nice Mutti tomatoes), but I'm not sure if it will keep me feeling full up til dinner time as there's not really any substance to it.

I am a bit like that today. I didn't bring lunch with me today and cannot face heading up to the nearby shop as it will be packed with school kids. I have just eaten a couple of those little packs of biscuits that were leftover from a meeting I chaired the other day.

OldTinHat · 30/01/2025 13:24

Custard is fab! I mean, why not? You're not having it for lunch every day.

I've just re-subscribed to a veg box delivery. It's arrived today and I'm looking at it, thinking, why?! It's effort and I'm all out of that.

I've been on a long dog walk, she's passed out under a blanket and I want to do the same. Now I have to think about vegetable recipes before they go all curly and shrivelled (bit like me, actually!).

I had cocoa pops for tea last night. It's not something I ever buy but DS left them when he returned to university. His Gf loves them.

I could not be bothered with anything more brain taxing.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 30/01/2025 14:31

OP, you're not being unreasonable in the least. I'd happily eat custard for lunch - in fact, a couple of weeks ago when I had the house to myself for the day, I made an old-fashioned rice pudding (baked in the oven to form a nice skin on top) and ate half for lunch and the rest for tea. It was lovely, just like my mum used to make, and I'm not remotely ashamed.

Bloatstoat · 30/01/2025 14:34

That sounds amazing, YA definitely NBU.

I had 3 year old's leftover pasta, it was definitely underwhelming and I am now craving custard.

Pottedpalm · 30/01/2025 14:35

Custard is a great lunch! Even better with a couple of sliced bananas and some sugar 😂
Im currently having two bags of Pom-Bears.

purplecorkheart · 30/01/2025 20:01

The custard would even better if there was left over Jelly (Raspberry or Strawberry). I love Jelly and Custard. I don't make it anymore as I would be tempted to eat too much.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/01/2025 20:07

I love an occasional tin of custard. Cold. Straight from the tin 😋

AmazingBouncingFerret · 30/01/2025 20:09

I had a bowl of custard for dinner on Tuesday night. Why the fuck not.

Growlybear83 · 30/01/2025 20:17

I don't think you're at all unreasonable. But you've reminded me that I've got half a tub of custard in the fridge which I'll have for my pudding after dinner tonight.

NameChanges123 · 30/01/2025 20:21

Lols. No problem with that.

When I'm ill, I only eat cake and chocolate!

coxesorangepippin · 30/01/2025 20:22

YANBU

Yourfootisinmysirachamayo · 30/01/2025 20:23

I had several spoons of golden syrup for my tea 🫣

FumingTRex · 30/01/2025 20:24

You should have put banana in it then it would be almost a health food!

BigDahliaFan · 30/01/2025 20:34

My CBA lunch is white rice with Parmesan cheese…

coldcallerbaiter · 30/01/2025 20:48

Love custard. If it was homemade, some egg yolks and milk is not too bad. So let’s forget about the sugar.

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 30/01/2025 20:50

Did you seriously not even have a slice of bread to stick in the toaster?!

Balloonhearts · 30/01/2025 20:56

I've eaten a triple pack of jaffa cakes in 2 days because I cba to go buy lunch stuff. Make worse by the fact that I bought carrots for the horses but the idea of walking across the shop and then actually having to think about what I wanted for lunch was too much effort.

Muddypawsies · 30/01/2025 20:57

I like your style.

Did you seriously not even have a slice of bread to stick in the toaster?!

But a bowl of custard is much nicer! 😆
