To have eaten a bowl of custard for lunch?

I've been fairly consistently eating vegetable stir fry for lunch for the last few weeks. I'm WFH today and really couldn't be bothered making a stir fry (I know it doesn't take long, I just CBA with the cooking and subsequent cleaning). The only other thing we have left in the house that isn't a proper cooked meal is leftover custard from Sunday, so I just ate a large bowl of custard heated up in the microwave. Feel a bit sick now tbh but it was worth it as now I don't have to clean much. Anyone else eaten unhealthy minimal effort for lunch today?

My OH does this quite a lot, he goes through phases of eating just one thing for ages and then hating it

He will often also put squirty cream on top of his and top it up with pouring cream

Mirabai · 30/01/2025 21:06

Hot custard is the work of the devil but you are NBU not to cook.

I WFH and there’s no way I’m cooking at lunch time. I just keep throw together foods in the fridge.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 30/01/2025 21:19

That sounds like a fab lunch, I might have that tomorrow.

StasisMom · 30/01/2025 21:33

When I was a child, I thought that when I was an adult I'd eat custard every day and stay up till midnight. I don't do either, alas.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 30/01/2025 21:35

I’ve recently discovered how to make cinema style popcorn. So WFH today- made a massive bowl of that for lunch. Plus some
rsndom leftover Lidl meze bits and bobs.

NeedWineNow · 30/01/2025 21:39

No problem at all! I had a bowl of Ambrosia Chocolate Custard the other night (I did feel a bit sick though)🤣

Fancytrike · 30/01/2025 21:39

I often do things like this. I had a bowl of chocolate rice pudding the other day for lunch. The normal stuff (with a load of strawberry jam) is better, but it was still a great lunch.

I ate a balanced dinner with vegetables. It’s fine.

Btw Sainsburys Taste the difference fresh custard is great. Half a pot with a banana is another lunch option.

NotMeNoNo · 30/01/2025 21:40

I had a tooth removed yesterday and on recovery diet, also had custard for lunch. Love custard!

Zippidydoodah · 30/01/2025 21:41

Yet again, I cooked double pasta so I could have some for lunch tomorrow, and then ate the bloody lot. I should have had a bowl of custard! 😉

SkaneTos · 30/01/2025 21:41

I eat candy for lunch, sometimes!

Is custard good when it's heated? Isn't custard usually eaten cold? (I am not from the UK).

Mum2jenny · 30/01/2025 21:42

Custard is disgusting unless served warm over a very good vanilla icecream. Then it’s heaven…

HappiestSleeping · 30/01/2025 21:43

@LilyLovegood

Only one bowl?

Lightweight.

😉

Reetpetitenot · 30/01/2025 21:43

DDad used to work night shifts - DMum used to frequently have a bowl of custard or rice pudding for dinner if he wasn't home. Dairy, innit.

bigfatquiz · 30/01/2025 21:43

I finished off a bag of prawn crackers for my breakfast today

The custard would even better if there was left over Jelly (Raspberry or Strawberry). I love Jelly and Custard. I don't make it anymore as I would be tempted to eat too much.

Ooooh! 😋

BuntyBeaufort · 30/01/2025 21:44

I had a cold, leftover sausage dunked in brown sauce and half a red pepper to scoop up the remains of a tub of hummus, followed by a Tunnocks wafer bar. Very wholesome.

SaltAndVinegarRiceCake · 30/01/2025 21:46

Had 2 chocolate brownies and 2 packets of crispsfor lunch today, then I felt ill for most of the day.

So I just had a veg korma for dinner, no rice or any carby things. Unfortunately that reset me, I no longer felt stuffed and ill, and since then I've had a kinder bueno, most of a sharing bag of crisps, a chocolate digestive and 2 glasses of wine.

I.have.got.to.stop.

A favourite 'we fancy pudding for once but haven't got any actual pudding things' in our house is a bowl with a layer of fig rolls at the bottom and then hot custard poured over the top. The Husband has got in the habit of always keeping emergency fig rolls and some custard on the top shelf of the groceries cupboard where I can't quite see or reach them, so it's always a joyous surprise.

TwinklyPearlPoster · 30/01/2025 21:51

Really not sure how you ended up with leftover custard AND have resisted eating this for four days !

If you regularly have leftover custard, then keep some meringues on hand and crumble them in

Apart from that definitely YANBU

Yes, my lunch was a smoothie, followed by a Complan drink followed by half of a family portion of Tiramisu. Yum. I've just been diagnosed with an illness which caused me to lose weight and my doctor has told me he wants me to put on half a stone pronto. I will eat Tiramisu at any time of the day or night so no worries.😂

ShushImTalking · 30/01/2025 21:58

I had banana and Greek yogurt for my breakfast. Was supposed to have a salad for lunch, but cba, and ate half a packet of malted milk biscuits with 2 cups of coffee. I've not been well, my appetite has gone wonky. 😞

I've eaten a triple pack of jaffa cakes in 2 days because I cba to go buy lunch stuff. Make worse by the fact that I bought carrots for the horses but the idea of walking across the shop and then actually having to think about what I wanted for lunch was too much effort.

2 days? Pah- amateur! I've been known to polish off a whole pack in one evening 🤪 I literally can't stop eating Jaffa Cakes once I start ...

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 30/01/2025 20:50

Did you seriously not even have a slice of bread to stick in the toaster?!

No, I'm gluten intolerant so we tend not to have bread lying around. Being gf also makes it difficult to just pop to the shop and get a grab and go meal deal as they're typically centred around sandwiches or pasta :/

OP, you're not being unreasonable in the least. I'd happily eat custard for lunch - in fact, a couple of weeks ago when I had the house to myself for the day, I made an old-fashioned rice pudding (baked in the oven to form a nice skin on top) and ate half for lunch and the rest for tea. It was lovely, just like my mum used to make, and I'm not remotely ashamed.

I prefer tinned or packet so you don't get the custard skin. Love |Ambrosia! I sometimes used to buy the little tubs.

soupyspoon · 31/01/2025 07:28

Surely all the fiber is in the skin though....
