Traitors on BBC News - really?

kinkytoes · 25/01/2025 08:32

Two of the top six stories on the BBC news website are about Traitors.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Disclaimer - I don't watch it, but presumably those who do will have either seen it last night or be avoiding spoilers!!

Traitors on BBC News - really?
OP posts:
Freysimo · 25/01/2025 08:34

At least there's no drag queen mentions. It's just BBC self promoting.

porridgebath · 25/01/2025 08:35

Anyone avoiding spoilers will be trying to watch it as soon as possible so they don't hear about it from someone else. People have to take some responsibility for not hearing about it. It's live TV. People have become spoilt by all the catch up tv available.

porridgebath · 25/01/2025 08:36

Also you'd have to be silly to click on any of those stories and read them if you're avoiding spoilers. There being a finale is not a spoiler.

Didimum · 25/01/2025 08:36

What’s the issue?

BarbaraHoward · 25/01/2025 08:36

Appointment television is very rare these days, Traitors is a different beast to most other TV.
The final of Strictly and X Factor would always have been in the news the next day when they were at their peak.

And then of course sport is in the news all the time.

Didimum · 25/01/2025 08:36

What’s the issue?

My issue is in the OP.

Those who watch it will either have seen it or be avoiding spoilers.

So why's it on the main bloody news? TWICE!

Yes I know it's BBC promotion but it annoys me. That's not what news is supposed to be for.

OP posts:
BarbaraHoward · 25/01/2025 08:40

But there's no spoilers in the headlines, so anyone avoiding spoilers (difficult with something so popular) just won't read the stories.

GoodVibesHere · 25/01/2025 08:43

It makes a nice change from football. I couldn't care less which footballer is transferring to another team or what line-up the managers are planning etc.

Fawn87 · 25/01/2025 08:45

I had notifications from the BBC news app that came with live updates. I like the Traitors but thought they were making too big a deal of it. If it was on itv or channel 4 it wouldn't have got that attention so they are self promoting. A news article under culture is expected though.

kinkytoes · 25/01/2025 08:45

To everyone missing my point.

Those who don't care won't be clicking anything.

Those who do care will have watched it so already know what happened. Or won't be clicking because they don't want to spoil it.

This is on the front page, not the culture section.

To be fair OP, you didn't really make a point in your post. All you said was that Traitors is in the news.

I think OP is saying Traitors isn't newsworthy.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 25/01/2025 08:47

Football is on the news all the time and you could say the same about that.... 🤷

Fatloss · 25/01/2025 08:50

I notice that all four are from the Culture section rather than the main news. Is the list set by an editor deciding what is important or by clicks. If it is just most popular then obviously that is what people on bbc site are interested in at the time you were there.

Not enough for two articles high up on the front page no

BBC.co.uk is a news, entertainment and culture website. As are the majority of news outlets. It’s also on the lead page of the Telegraph, Guardian and tabloid pages.

Best find a different outlet for your news if you don’t wish to see culture and entertainment options.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2025 08:52

Why would I not want to read an article about The Traitors if I watched it?

No I don't think Auschwitz is culture.

It's defo the front page. This was just above.

Pretty sure it's not set by most popular. These are editing decisions.

People like to read about things even if they already know what happened. Like post match analysis in football.

What’s wrong with it being an editing decision? Again the BBC site is for news, culture and entertainment. It was watched by 10 million people, well reviewed and highly anticipated.
