Traitors on BBC News - really?

kinkytoes · 25/01/2025 08:32

Two of the top six stories on the BBC news website are about Traitors.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Disclaimer - I don't watch it, but presumably those who do will have either seen it last night or be avoiding spoilers!!

Traitors on BBC News - really?

I don't think it's unusual for sport or entertainment stories to be high on the news site, especially on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Pottedpalm · 25/01/2025 08:56

I don’t see a problem. Oasis reuniting was on the main news bulletins for about a week. Now that was annoying.

kinkytoes · 25/01/2025 08:57

Meh. A lot of people not really getting what I'm saying. Fair enough. Have a good weekend all.

I agree, OP. See also sport. But then again, I accept that I am a grumpy old curmudgeon with old fashioned ideas about what constitutes ‘news’.

StormyWeather01 · 25/01/2025 08:58

Well it’s a BBC show and millions watched it. Same for Gavin and Stacey which got a lot of press this year.

Bjorkdidit · 25/01/2025 08:59

It's a TV programme, so what's newsworthy about it? Has something happened?

I've never watched it and don't know anything about it, but would only expect a TV programme to be in the news if something terrible had happened, or perhaps it became the longest running show ever or was being used to raise awareness of a disease, because this usually encourages people to seek a diagnosis and hence saves lives.

Ooh now I did watch that.

Could not have been less interested in reading a news article about it, let alone two 😂

What’s wrong with it being an editing decision? Again the BBC site is for news, culture and entertainment. It was watched by 10 million people, well reviewed and highly anticipated.

BBC News is for 'news', ie yesterday's storm, wars, deaths of prominent figures etc.

The wider BBC site has separate categories for culture, entertainment, sport etc, they are not 'news' as such.

I get what you're saying, I just don't agree with you.

Do you remember Big Brother in the early 00's? It was all over the papers constantly. This is not a new thing.

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 25/01/2025 09:04

New headline: people who have really enjoyed a tv programme would like to read a bit more about it, firstly about the final they have just watched and then a look back on key moments. Other people just scroll on by or perhaps click on the headings to find news about other things they might be interested in. Not that surprising really.

It's not bbc.co.uk

It's bbc.co.uk/news

Yes, and it’s culture news. This is such a bizarre thread.

One article maybe. But two?

Sure, why not? I enjoyed it and I like reading what other people thought of it, and possible titbits/insights.

I watched Uncloaked too.

The website doesn’t have separate sections for culture or entertainment, only for sport, weather, food, and so on. Culture and entertainment are included in the news and marked for category.

Nitgel · 25/01/2025 09:10

Agree with op it isn't news

I enjoyed reading the highlights bit. I’d forgotten some of them. It was a great series, which is good to see when so many of these types of thing go down the pan after 1 or 2.

I think you’re just grumpy that BBC and Mumsnet aren’t behaving as you wish them to.

SnarkSideOfLife · 25/01/2025 09:12

I love the Traitors but admit it’s not exactly news is it? It’s reality tv show. They don’t talk about Love Island or I’m a celeb on the bbc news…. it was actually on the 10 o’clock news on tv!

I kind of don’t care about it being on the news website but on the actual tv news is bonkers

And yes it will be partly promoting another bbc show but they shouldn’t do that. What next? A summary of country file on the news every Sunday evening or saying who won Bargain Hunt?

You're far too sensible, like me! This is the only programme of its type I have ever watched, no Strictly come dancing, skating, baking sewing etc. and I have looked at the reports on various websites to gauge reactions, I find that fascinating. I didn't read about the storm, we had what my late mother would have called a good drying day, breezy and warm but I don't expect news reports to be tailored to my tastes as others seem to. Just scroll on by!

You omitted patronising as well as grumpy.
