Oh! I thought this was about stealing…

So did I!

MaggieFS · 23/01/2025 22:22

Me three!

murasaki · 23/01/2025 22:22

Also, how long until someone says they've successfully done it in a dishwasher.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/01/2025 22:23

I recall someone saying you can poach a salmon by wrapping it in foil and putting in the dishwasher (don't add a dishwasher tablet!)
(I've never tried it though. )

Yeah, I was also expecting this to be about nefarious angling.

CoolNavyTraybake · 23/01/2025 22:25

Haha! No, definitely a legit salmon!!! Just want to cook it like my mum did when they use to be catchable in the wild rivers of scotland…. Sadly not really possible now.., 😞

I read the title as salmon punching. Thought you’d invented a new sport.

HansHolbein · 23/01/2025 22:27

There I was, worried about poor salmon Grin

CoolNavyTraybake · 23/01/2025 22:29

New to mumsnet!! 🙈. Trying to figure out how to change message title!!!

Ask around on your local Facebook group, see if anyone has one you can borrow?
Or could you fit it sideways in a large roasting dish, wrapped round with foil?

bluesatin · 23/01/2025 22:31

Don't know about a whole salmon, but Mary Berry has recipes for big bits of it, eg. https://www.maryberry.co.uk/recipes/recipe/side-of-salmon-with-hoisin-vegetables

Surely you can just poach it in a big roasting pan covered with foil?

Dammit, I was also hoping for an exciting thread where everyone piled into the OP for asking if it was unreasonable to steal the local laird’s fish. Or where the OP has a river running through her garden and is convinced the neighbours are jumping over the fence to get the salmon.

SleepToad · 23/01/2025 22:36

You wade out into the water and hold a net across the salmon run...or so I am told. Wouldn't do it myself as a) only just learnt to swim b) can't stand fish

I've never done it but I have eaten one cooked that way, absolutely beautiful.

Guilty as charged! I’ve done it numerous times.

Put lemon slices and herbs of your choice in the cavity, wrap it 4 times in foil, put it on the top shelf and run the cycle.

Oz and Barry on Auf Weidersehen Pet tickled the salmon when they were poaching. Not much help in this situation though.

I haven't poached in the Aga but I have wrapped a whole salmon in foil with lemon, dill and white wine and it was delicious. Did a short burst in the roasting oven before transferring to the simmering oven for 40 mins or so.

AdaColeman · 23/01/2025 23:04

Wrap in double foil, add lemon, herbs, knob of butter, some white wine (I use Noilly Prat) seal the foil tightly and bake in the lower oven. Delicious!

KnickerlessParsons · 23/01/2025 23:18

Seal it in foil and stick it in the oven.
Unless you've caught it yourself, it will have had enough water pumped into it to make it look plump and succulent for it to poach in its own juices.

I admit to watching my FIL tickling salmon. He never poached though, he had rights over the stretch of river as it ran through his land and refused to have rods and hooks.
