The KKK is feeling pretty empowered

This is what happens when a man like Donald Trump gets in power.

These are the people who feel empowered.

While MN celebrates the " only two genders ", people of colour in Kentucky are scared.

I've seen threads on here wishing the UK had Trump. Is this really what you want?

Is this really the type of people you want in power?

Those that voted for Trump over trans issues, what about shit like this? Or women dying from lack of abortion access? Or climate change? Or the casual revisiting of gay marriage rights?

According to GLAAD all resources referencing LGBTQ and HIV have been removed from the White House website. Gay, lesbian, no results come up in the search.

" Pages removed include WhiteHouse.gov’s equity report (no longer accessible), a fact sheet with information on expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment (no longer accessible), and information about LGBTQ Pride Month (no longer accessible). Agency page removals include Department of State’s LGBTQ rights (no longer accessible), and Department of Labor’s LGBTQ workers page (no longer accessible). "

This is scary shit. I don't get how any one envies?

KKK distributes flyers in Kentucky telling immigrants to ‘leave now’

Documents, including phone number and invitation to ‘join us’, distributed same day Trump took office

America has lots of very complex social issues that are not comparable to the UK. Trump standing up for women’s sex based rights is a good thing for their country though.

Get real. Trump is not standing up for sex based rights, and never will. He is no ally to women.

That is not what is being said. At the time of appointment. If the person best suited to the role is a disabled black lesbian, then that is who should be appointed. Likewise if it is someone else, they should get the job.

But we know historically that is not what happens.

The best candidate does not get the job, the white man does.

This will just send us back to that.

Or do you believe that America is so progressive now that these issues no longer exist?

i see. So you believe that it is justified for a selection of groups to have flags flown over government buildings vs other groups.

I understand.

Absolutely I do.

I'm not comparing the elderly to being black. That's ridiculous.

They're the bestest people for the job. Just like privately educated men are the best people to be MPs and hold many powerful positions.

It's not true that black people face more brutality or incarceration than others involved in crime in the USA. And it's not true at all in other countries.

It is the case that gay marriage is a fairly recent phenomenon but doesn't mean that discrimination against gay people is much worse compared to eg autistic people.

We do need to do what we can to eliminate discrimination but this means treating people fairly and equally regardless of race or sex etc. the best person for the job should get the job regardless of race, sex etc

Black men are absolutely disproportionately represented in jails.

Black people absolutely face more police brutality than other races.

I'm not going to argue that fact because it is literally a fact.

I went to sleep before the election a gender critical feminist very bothered by the erosion of women's sports, opportunities, safe spaces, and identity. I woke up and magically by executive order someone finally defined what a woman is after years of asking, and clarified what I always believed. Miles away outside of my own jurisdiction but still.

Any party or representative you could vote for in the western world is, really, putting lipstick on a pig. In the immortal words of @erishkalangcleg - a stopped clock can be right twice a day.

We take our small wins of ground back and hope that they continue to take root.

Great.

So you, personally, have priority groups that you wish to see supported over other groups, I assume due to personal involvement with those groups, and you are upset when their flags are removed from government buildings. It is good to understand where you are coming from.

I am sure you can understand though that many people do not share your personal priority list based on your very own personal selection criteria.

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 24/01/2025 00:24

The KKK are not just some other group with a flag.
They're not exactly known for being a benign organisation.
White power groups are extremely dangerous, have a read about Aryan Brother hood that's an eye opener into how these groups operate.

I think you give the electorate far too little credit. I don't know enough of American politicians to make an educated statement. But lets use the UK. The British electorate in 1979 put a woman in charge of the Country. She remained in charge for over a decade, getting returned to power by the British public.

During that time I am confident there were any number of white males trying to shove her off that pedestal and take the reigns. So please do not make false claims that the white male gets the job.

You of course have proof that the straight white man was not the best suited candidiate? As I have previously stated, it is entirely dependent on the role and the person applying.

Keeping with politics, Angela Merkal was considered to be a force to be reckoned with. Did she have the job as German chancellor because the German people felt it would look nice to have a woman at top? Or did they think, 'you know, this woman is damn good at getting her opinion across, cracking leader for us'.

Want a few more female forceful politicians. Mo Mowlam, Winny Mandela, Kamala Harris, Condoleza Rice, Jacinda Adern. To name but a few.

A feminist who doesn't believe in discrimination against women or unconscious bias. Would you like me to name every single male politician?

What I am actually saying is that government buildings should not be flying flags supporting one group of people over another. It is not a controversial position to have.

And it doesn’t reflect my opinion on how policies and support programmes within that government building should be used to address equitable opportunities. It certainly doesn’t reflect my opinion on how any government department that is within the purview of that building addresses the needs of minorities.

But you seem to know my thoughts and opinions far better than I do so please do let your accusations flow free and copiously.
