The KKK is feeling pretty empowered

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 22/01/2025 17:23

This is what happens when a man like Donald Trump gets in power.

These are the people who feel empowered.

While MN celebrates the " only two genders ", people of colour in Kentucky are scared.

I've seen threads on here wishing the UK had Trump. Is this really what you want?

Is this really the type of people you want in power?

Those that voted for Trump over trans issues, what about shit like this? Or women dying from lack of abortion access? Or climate change? Or the casual revisiting of gay marriage rights?

According to GLAAD all resources referencing LGBTQ and HIV have been removed from the White House website. Gay, lesbian, no results come up in the search.

" Pages removed include WhiteHouse.gov’s equity report (no longer accessible), a fact sheet with information on expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment (no longer accessible), and information about LGBTQ Pride Month (no longer accessible). Agency page removals include Department of State’s LGBTQ rights (no longer accessible), and Department of Labor’s LGBTQ workers page (no longer accessible). "

Documents, including phone number and invitation to ‘join us’, distributed same day Trump took office

And here you are again with the insults. Like I say, you never learn.

That word has lost all meaning as it seems to be doled out to people who think that men can't become women and they shouldn't be in women's prisons and domestic abuse shelters. If that's what 'transphobic' means I expect most people will happily put their hands up as being so.

midgetastic · 23/01/2025 12:36

Wasn't this a thread about the KKK?

Disgusting that people are so obsessed that they can't see and care about the harm being done to others

The original point was quite confusing to my mind:

While MN celebrates the " only two genders ", people of colour in Kentucky are scared.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 23/01/2025 13:04

I'm sorry this was confusing for you.

Let me be clearer.

People on MN have said they wish they had a leader like Trump. There is an entire thread about how he's a great leader for putting Americans first.

All inspired by him stating there are only two sexes.

A point which still hasn't addressed what that means exactly for trans people.

It's beyond agreeing with him on one issue. Women on here have actually said they want a leader like him.

The removing of the flags symbolizes the removal of equality rights.

Sure, in an ideal world no one would need such legislation. However, in the USA especially those things help even the playing field.

This means the " best candidate " will once again be a white man in many cases.

Why is a Canadian writing this on a UK message board?

Well, I've been part of this community for years and haven't been banned for being Canadian.

I'm very nervous about what this means for Canada.

The USA is also a super power who inspired the rest of the world.

I work in the USA frequently and this affects how safe I feel.

I don't think my thoughts are less valid as someone who is affected and has family affected.

Also, it's fine to not agree with me but citing my being Canadian as a rebuttal seems a little weak.

At the moment my life is being impacted and it matters to me.

In what way OP is your life being affected?

Has the removal of flags about sexual identity from Government buildings removed your right to be gay,bi,straight?
Are you no longer able to travel in America?
In what way do you feel you are likely to come to harm today any more than you were a month ago?

That would be very shortsighted. I've only seen posters saying they disagree with Trump on basically everything apart from the fact that there are two sexes, and that in some contexts this is important, but perhaps there are Trump supporters and I've just not seen them.

I personally would love to have a PM who acknowledges there are only two sexes and supports women's rights, like the Communist Party of Britain does for example.

I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to do for people in Kentucky, though of course I feel for them and hope they are ok, as I hope the same for you and your family.

JazzyJelly · 23/01/2025 13:32

So the point is 'don't support a politician who has done a good thing (for the wrong reasons) because he has done bad things'?

I would generally agree, but it would be a lot easier to support, say, Labour or the Democrats if they acknowledged material reality.

The voices out there … media. Get their viewpoint across thru fear. They know it’s effective in getting you to click, and click again, because they’ve made you fearful & you want to keep checking on it.

I am choosing not to read the stories that are meant to instill fear. From either “side” I look at news sources of different bias and notice how they report same thing w different spin, or don’t cover something because it doesn’t fit their view. Day of Ceasefire and announcement of hostage release. BBC was possibly only news outlet that didn’t have “hostage releases” in the headline. It was Gaza is rubble & dead bodies.

The fear

Afraid in America
Afraid for Canada
Fear for women
Worry about trans
Worry about immigrant families torn apart
etc

They’re all dying, being abused - it’s awful. Really? You are being emotionally scammed.

Honestly, sick of all of it.. I’m not going to be allowing the media to make me fear. Don’t let them get into your head and make you afraid of things that really aren’t a thing.

I’ll take care of my own thank you. It a much better way to spend my time

I have family members who have been put on leave for their jobs because of the removal of DEI programs.

Me personally in terms of employment I guess we will see. I work in television and we will see how it filters down when white men typically in charge can freely hire more white men to be in charge.

These programs supported diversity for race, women, sexual orientation, pregnancy, disabled people. This will be a huge blowback.

On a personal level I'm not sure what this would mean for traveling to the US with my partner. His ID says male. He's trans. Will this make his id invalid in the US? We don't know yet. For now, we won't travel together.

As a Canadian I'm naturally nervous with a president who said he will wage a financial war on my country.

Plus these things tend to spread. I'm concerned we will head in the same direction.

As a child the KKK matched through my neighborhood. It was terrifying.

What's happening in Kentucky scares the shit out of me.

Creating these DEI 'Micky Mouse' jobs costing American taxpayers just to tick a box is wrong.

I have family in Canada, and from what I can gather. If you are good at your job and work hard, you have as much chance of success being male or female.

While I can understand your partners concerns, and he/she whichever she identifies as may fall into imho the small group where intersex at birth has brought about gender dysphoria. For a large proportion of people in America, Canada or UK, there are very legitimate concerns about peoples motives for sex change or is there an unresolved mental health issue.
If these concerns are proven to be completely false, then brilliant. But at present I don't think they are being addressed due to fear of causing upset.

I totally get the concern over tarriff changes between Canada and USA. But putting their own nation first is the one thing most people do want from our politicians, both in America and here. With that soundbite, Trump knows it makes him popular.

"The removing of the flags symbolizes the removal of equality rights."

What are the equality rights that you see being removed right now that relate to the flags that you feel symbolise loss of rights exactly? Please be very clear what the rights are that you feel have been lost right now this week?

And particularly what human rights has the EO stating that there are two sexes and that sometimes sex matters removed from people with transgender identities?

The insult was throwing out 'transphobia', but like I say, I don't think that means much to anyone anymore 🤷‍♀️

The 'gentle view' I expressed, is that acceptable to say in your view, or not?

As for some of your other examples, many of them are simply statements of fact, though perhaps not in language you like. There undoubtedly are male bad actors using this as a way of intimidating women - can this not be discussed? Men in dresses is often a factual point and particularly understandable as a pushback when we're being told we are supposed to believe these men are 'really women'.

Not that any of this matters, if you think I'm 'transphobic' I don't actually care - knock yourself out. I'm not trying to win people round either as it seems like more and more people are getting there by themselves 🤷‍♀️

As I said above. Many people have now been put on leave due to the dismantling of the DEI.

The DEI is a huge issue and the removal of the flags represent going backwards.

And that is it?

Well, the flags that you mention represent a fraction of the groups supposedly represented under DEI measures. Why is it considered appropriate to only have those flags up? Who decided those were the most important flags?

And it is highly dangerous to equity efforts if organisations and the people expecting progress under the DEI measures to rely on such symbolism. Particularly the symbolism that apparently those groups are the priority over others.

As I have said, I don’t agree with flags representing groups being flown on government buildings.

The extra flags are political - politics & not symbols that represent a nation.

Other flags have no business on government buildings

Actually Hitler was never voted into power.

The Nazi party was voted into power in 1933 with 43.9% of the vote, and Hitler was appointed chancellor by President Hindenburg in 1933. When the President died in 1934 Hitler declared himself leader/Fuhrer. So, no, he wasn’t ever elected or even chosen.

And no, History is therefore not repeating itself at all.

(GCSE History, courtesy of my kids, for reference).

Black people face police brutality and incarceration more than any other race.

I think it may involve a bit of self denial but it makes me feel better. Hurrah! They can do without my dosh if Trump is so great. Hope they all end up drinking piss out of rusty hubcaps.
