To wonder if Starmer can survive the vibe-shift?

Trump has been going hell for leather since his inauguration it seems, things are changing fast - Trump likes the UK, but he doesn't like Starmer. Starmer seems out of sync with the changing tide, and seems (to me) to get it wrong and make it worse everytime he opens his mouth. AIBU in wondering how long Starmer can hang on?

If it was the disillusioned Tory right who gave reform the voting share of 19% at the election, who do you think has continued to bulk up that figure to 24% today - even while Badenoch has signalled a retreat to the right for the Conservative party?

Edited

The Conservatives are struggling with their members defecting to Reform. It's an ongoing process. That's why Badenoch is doing the whole move to the right thing (a tactical mistake in my opinion, but I don't vote Tory so no skin off my nose).

Notaflippinclue · 22/01/2025 16:54

It's certainly been a left wing echo chamber since Trump was elected, it reminds me of our NHS staff room at the height of the gender nonsense.

MN has never been a (eta:totally) left wing echo chamber.

People posting right wing views is fine, of course it is. People promoting hate and conspiracy theories is not. And there has been a lot of the latter recently. Often in the guise of faux concern or innocence.

I don't think OP is a "you know what", for the record. But they have obviously recently name changed.

I think it is time MNHQ banned name changing except for boards like the relationship boards and others where posters need to be anonymous to be safe.

It pretty much was in 2009. There were a few outliers but actually it was mostly left leaning, back when that spoke more to an economic model and not identity navel gazing.

Nigellasrockyroad · 22/01/2025 16:47

I agree with you. Mumsnet does seem to be a middle class, centre to left platform. Right wing views are not really seen. Does there need to be more balance? Yes. What isn’t needed is people (not allowed to say the b o t word), signing up with an agenda, causing trouble, then leaving. That’s what happened with Twitter and it totally ruined it. Genuine posters tend to post on lots of different topics, just not politics.

I don't think that's true at all. Any of the numerous posts about private schools, inheritance tax changes etc show that there's a large right wing element on here. I actually think it's pretty evenly split, politically. If anything, it's fairly centrist, reflecting the general UK population.

DuncinToffee · 22/01/2025 16:57

Biggest movements in polls

Con -> Reform 3.5%
Lab -> Reform 2.3%
Lab -> Green 1.9%
Lab -> Lib Dem 1.5%
Lab -> Con 1.1%
Lib Dem -> Reform 0.8%

Nigellasrockyroad · 22/01/2025 16:58

@AnonymousBleep yes, I stand corrected. I think it is more centrist.

Mnhq have said don’t hunt on the threads so if you’re reporting and the posts are staying it looks like it was an incorrect judgement

From the poster that is

PandoraSox · 22/01/2025 17:03

MNHQ don't always get it right though. One poster got to three threads before they were banned, despite lots of people reporting.

Nigellasrockyroad · 22/01/2025 17:03

@EasternStandard not sure I agree with that. Sometimes things are left up because they are creating a lot of traffic. Mumsnet is a business, after all.

Agree about your comment about genuine posters posting on lots of topics too, rather than just politics.

Well do as you want but keep using bot on threads and see if mnhq do anything

starmer is a vile prick

You and I have very different definitions of vile prick.

I haven't called anyone a bot on this thread. That's what MNHQ don't like.

Eta:I think that we are allowed to acknowledge bots exist on MN? As they do on all social media. It is not against the Talk guidelines to say that, is it?

I guess I will find out!

Up to you whether you want a closed off site that reflects your views alone or this one, nothing is compulsory

i don't want a site that reflects my views alone, there are many posters who are very genuine with polar opposite views to myself that i interact with or witness across multiple threads.

Perhaps you should re-read my comments. What I don’t want is a platform that is a million miles away from what it started as. Twitter was totally ruined by misinformation. I’d hate to see Mumsnet go that way

I’m fine with it moving on from a Labour echo chamber tbh where every non Labour post is responded to as bot or similar

I find it tedious and yes I’ve been here for years. I’m glad mnhq are finally deleting and suspending as it ruins the site

I remember the angry American man, who seemed to be using Grok to write his longer posts. He got quite threatening and very into Advanced Searching.

Nigellasrockyroad · 22/01/2025 17:14

@EasternStandard but all you ever post on is political posts? Mumsnet, the clue is in the name.

but those aren't the only 2 options? "Labour echo chamber" vs blatant misinformation?

Twitter originally had a great mix of opinions and views before it went downhill.

SamanthaJayneFrances · 22/01/2025 17:15

I didn't vote for Sir Keir Starmer but I am waiting to see if he can do something good for the country, something positive. Not convinced yet. The Tories lost the election as they flip flopped all over the place and were punished for it. If Reform offer good policies, apart from immigration, at the next election, they will win. Labour will not win. The Tories, I think, will do better than people realise especially if they have a new leader.

Trump gave a feel good feeling to Americans. America first yay. 2 sexes yay. Crack down on illegal aliens yay. Boost to the American economy yay...and so on.

What did we get? Doom and gloom. A kick in the goolies to our pensioners and small business while appeasing the unions and monetising train drivers.

Now Labour are opening up the hotels again for asylum seekers. The ones they chastised the Tories using.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 22/01/2025 17:16

The reality of the situation is, the US will most likely have a new President before we have a new Prime Minister.
If the systems work as they were designed.

wholettheturnipsburn · 22/01/2025 17:16

Starmer is at the start of a difficult journey.

Most people
I know think he's doing just fine and broadly support his policies

Equally most people I know think the orange cunt is a monster and don't GAF about what he thinks.
