To wonder if Starmer can survive the vibe-shift?

Trump has been going hell for leather since his inauguration it seems, things are changing fast - Trump likes the UK, but he doesn't like Starmer. Starmer seems out of sync with the changing tide, and seems (to me) to get it wrong and make it worse everytime he opens his mouth. AIBU in wondering how long Starmer can hang on?

I'm quite interested in politics but I find PMQs a hard watch. The jeering, heckling, the quips, the sucking up, the faux concern for individual constituents. It's fairly damming of all of them.

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:09

You're talking about another poster, it was someone else talking about humiliation for another politician.

I said people not everyone thinks he's doing well, they either mock or find descriptions funny. I don't think you are anymore objective tbf

You implied it ES.

@QuimCarrey I don't listen to it anymore but if you want to know the impact listen to Times radio who do focus groups. They pick up on lines that stick and why

And I thought you then quoted their post and stated ‘This sums up Starmer at PMQ…

Well, to be fair, we’re all entitled to our own thoughts, as meaningless and as inaccurate as they may well be.

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:22

@PandoraSox you do realise the bold means someone else wrote that?

Feel free to focus your attention on that poster

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:23

Which poster said that about Badenoch?

There's been a couple of times the claim has been made with the word humiliation for her

If you don't listen to it any more, and we're talking about the impact of Daily Mail coverage PMQs on recent polls, presumably there's a written source detailing what Times Radio is saying currently about that issue. As it would be an odd thing to cite otherwise.

Could you link it please?

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:27

@QuimCarrey you sounded interested so I mentioned it. Listen or don't

Maybe Starmer has turned all but the most loyal Labour lot off PMQs, the repetitive non answer and manner not helping him

TheNuthatch · 25/01/2025 12:29

I watched PMQ's this week for the first time in a while.
Starmer was rattled and irritated throughout! He couldn't cope with the Kemi B's questions re academies, and he struggled with Ed Davey too asking him about social care. It was a shit performance by KS.

How is a pp supposed to link to something heard on the radio? Or link to how many people have ready a particular article in the daily mail for that matter.

Exactly this, the constant demand for links that can’t possibly exist is just getting tedious

I know the bit in bold denotes another poster.

But you wrote that the BiB "sums up Starmer at PMQs". Here it is again.

I saw a different one and thought the same, it's a fairly common view going by btl comments

Exactly! Some posters on MN are clearly getting desperate in their defence of Starmer

The pp doesn't listen to the radio programme she cited any more. So although it's possible to link to radio recordings from a particular show on the internet, presumably she's basing her recommendation on something else, since this is a discussion about the reason for current polls. I'd like to know what.

On the DM point, that's a good question. I don't rule out the possibility that such evidence exists. If it doesn't, and the pp simply thinks that because some people make comments about DM articles on PMQs that means they must be a significant factor in the poll results, no doubt she can say so.

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:38

@PandoraSox whilst I appreciate the effort I'm pretty sure there's other things than highlighting posts that are better on this lovely day

If you want to pull up the person I quoted feel free.

I know! It's getting crazy on here. I was in a building site canteen for lunch this week. I heard men doing silly impressions of Starmer and taking the piss out of him. I'm astonished that so many pp on here can't see what people really think of him!

Just spend some time in the real world, you'll soon get a feel for what many people think of starmer and co

Erm, I'm pretty sure links to radio coverage and content discussing radio coverage can in fact exist. The question is whether they actually do in this case.

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:43

@QuimCarrey it was simply a recommendation for a segment that is related to your questions.

I found it interesting and it showed how much the lines used do filter through to the public. They'll be talking about the same things now if you want insight

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 12:44

Can't say I meet many real world people who pay attention to PMQs, actually. But perhaps you move in more rarefied circles!

Yes, I saw it was a recommendation. That's why I wanted to know what specifically you'd based it on, so I could look. Still do.

It couldn't have been coverage that hadn't happened yet and you said you don't listen any more. I've never heard before of the Times Radio covering the impact of competitor coverage on PMQs. So was there an article?

Sherbs12 · 25/01/2025 12:52

@TheNuthatch Your description of people doing ‘silly impressions’ and ‘taking the piss out of’ politicians isn’t uncommon, you know - lots of comedy has centred on exactly this - so not really sure of its relevance or why you’d think it’s a measure of the ‘real world’…
