To spend £70 on a pillow?

I'm a side sleeper and often wake up with tension headaches that can turn into severe migraines that make me sick if I sleep a bit weird. My pillow isn't great, however my neck seems to be used to it for the most part because if I happen to stay over in a hotel and use a different pillow to mine I almost always wake up with a tension headache.

I'm looking for a new pillow with better support, it still soft and squishy. Something not too high or too flat that will retain its fluff and that's not memory foam.

I've come across these "double pillows" from Aeyla (hadn't heard of the brand before). They claim to have a more supportive inner core pillow with a fluffy outer pillow type cover around it that makes up the overall pillow. Has anyone used these before?

AIBU (or crazy?) to spend £70 on a single pillow? If it helps me to get a good night sleep and prevents tension headaches then I guess I'd be ok with spending that. However are there similar (or better pillow) options at a lower price?

If you've got that much to spend, absolutely fine to spend on a pillow.
Most people would easily spend that on a pair of shoes, which you'd use less often than a pillow.

EBearhug · 21/01/2025 22:56

Good sleep is worth investing in. I couldn't sleep on foam, but that's a personal thing. A good pillow that works for you is well worth every penny.

dinmin · 21/01/2025 23:06

YANBU and I would happily do the same but Aeyla have terrible reviews on trustpilot

NattyTurtle59 · 21/01/2025 23:41

If you think it will work then I guess it's worth it. I wouldn't as I have to change pillows every six - twelve months. I find one that's perfect, only for the neck pain to return (although I have to say the shredded kapok one I have at the moment is lasting the distance).

Flidina · 22/01/2025 00:55

I have the same problem OP, I've spent literally hundreds on pillows over the last few years tried loads of different ones, still haven't found one that's worked, going to look into Botox injections next to see if that helps.

LozzaChops101 · 22/01/2025 00:58

I have the same problem OP! I’ve been looking into buckwheat pillows, but now reading your thread with interest!

HorrorFan81 · 22/01/2025 01:09

I spent over £100 on a Tempur pillow and it's one of my favourite things ever

We bought 4 Tempur pillows for us and kids and they were a very good investment. Third of your life asleep and all that.
When we go on U.K. holidays the kids actually take them with us.

Edited

I'm the same! Take my Tempur pillow anytime I'm going somewhere in the UK. Love it

As a migraineur for roughly forty years, you can imagine that I've tried EVERYTHING possible to help myself in that time, even tho I was being prescribed preventative meds as well as meds to take upon onset of a migraine attack.
My neurologist told me that is been prescribed over the years every single preventative available.
That included Botox treatment, I was given three sessions, and the ONLY benefit wads a smooth forehead.
OP, that was all funded by our (U.K.) nhs.
So it may be useful for you to discuss this with your health provider.
Although sadly it did nothing for me, you may be one of the success stories.
Luckily, in the last couple of years, I qualified to receive anti cgrp injections (that you apply to yourself at home.
That had been the only medication ever to have given me any relief.
There are a lot of migraine sufferers out there, and I really don't think there are any two sufferers that are exactly the same.
So whilst I or any of the other survivors of these ghastly attacks can tell uti our experiences, it will be pot luck as to whether they will also be suitable for you.
I don't know if you have consulted your GP, or if you have been referred to a neurologist.
If not, you may wish to consider doing so.
Migraine, as you likely know, is NOT just a bad headache, and it can have serious affects on your home life, your work, your mental health, and it can be hard for those who love you, to watch you suffer.
Then you find yourself worrying about those people who care for you.
For instance, if you have an elderly parent that isn't practically able to help, it's can be heartbreaking for them, and therefore for you too.
You can be misunderstood, you can feel so flippin useless.
Please think about getting further help.
The pillow you buy may do exactly as you pray for - I sincerely hope it does.
If you continue to suffer after paying for this pillow, and maybe even more pillows and various other "devices" in the hopes of relief, you may be wasting money, or worse, you may be wasting time, where you could've been put forward for a consultation with a specialist.
Take care.

I bought aeyla pillows on a buy 1 get 1 half price (maybe even free) and have not regretted it. Also a side sleeper.

Kitchenisland5 · 22/01/2025 02:52

I asked my neurologist if there was anything I could try to help my chronic migraines. He suggested I cut out gluten as he said some people with coeliac disease only present with neurological issues. Within a month my migraines had reduced by 90% and now I only get them once a year or so, if that.

But a decent pillow is also a must!

Oblomov25 · 22/01/2025 03:52

No, actually I think spending a bit of money on something so important is a very good idea indeed, and can't grasp why anyone would question this. People often spend 'silly' money on food or coffees but we don't make sure we spends on important basics.

suki1964 · 22/01/2025 05:58

Always spend money on good bedding and good shoes - you spend at least 8 hrs a day in one of the other

GodspeedJune · 22/01/2025 06:13

I bought a dunlopillo around 5-6 years ago and haven’t regretted it. Infact I’ve ended up buying more for family members as gifts. I take it on holiday when I can and miss it when I can’t!

I spent £100 on a cloud tempur pillow - best decision ever! Go for it, sleep is important.

I also sleep on tempur pillows though for me its their orthopedic pillow. Dh sleeps on the cloud. My shoulder pain disappeared after I moved over.

I dont know the brand you are looking at @strawberrythiefleaf but the Tempur has been amazing for me.

I also have a The Grove pillow it's cheaper and does work but I much prefer the Tempur

I dont think £70is a lot for something we use that much.

Tempur 100%!!

Bubblesgun · 22/01/2025 08:35

@strawberrythiefleaf

investing money into your sleep is the best money you can spend.
if you think this pillow will help and you can afford it go for it.

i have 2 pillows. The top one was £150 and the bottom one 70 or 90 cant remember. But together with my bed and mattress i sleep like an angel.
flip side - getting out of bed is super hard 🤣🤣
john Lewis has sales on.

Proudestmumofone1 · 22/01/2025 08:37

I would definitely spend that on something that will last and provide a good nights sleep, also without impacting your next day through pain etc.

I would emphasise returnable options as you do need to try them.

I bought a Soak and Sleep Hungarian goose Down Pillow several years ago (actually probably 10 plus and as good as new) and it was the best purchase I’ve ever made.

FamilyPhoto · 22/01/2025 08:44

I would. In fact I did similar, paid €75 for a specialist bolster pillow.
Its made a huge difference.

strawberrythiefleaf · 21/01/2025 18:22

They do have a 30 day money back guarentee. I'm a little weary of the T&C's that come with these though because some companies make it very difficult for customers to actually return the item. I'll look into their refund policy

I’ve been looking at these pillows too, so can you buy one and then report back, please? At the moment I have one from Next that’s a ‘three in one’ which has been good for about 8 months but is a bit flat now.
I could have written your first paragraph, as that’s exactly me as well. I don’t think £70 for a pillow is at all bad, if it is good!
My husband and daughter have the Tempur ones, but they are way too hard for me.
Feather pillows give me headaches and feel like blocks of concrete to me 😀

TheFatCatsWhiskers1 · 22/01/2025 21:54

That Aeyla pillow looks a bit shit, like a budget Asda pillow stuffed inside another budget Asda pillow. I bought a similar looking pair from Eve years ago which promised all sorts, but after a couple of months they went flat and lumpy like all microfibre pillows seem to do.

I'm incredibly fussy about pillows but I also have allergies so it isn't worth me spending much money on one. They're never the same after they've been in the washing machine.

I currently have the Silent Night geltex premier pillow but I hate it, it's too hard, too flat and I can feel the stupid embossed pattern through the pillowcase.

Cheekychops11 · 21/12/2025 21:49

@strawberrythiefleaf did you end up buying one of these pillows? I'm considering the aeyla dual pillow too, to help with neck pain. How has your sleep been since? I'd be really grateful to know as not heard of the brand until recently.

JackGrealishsCalves · 21/12/2025 22:45

I struggled for ages to find a good pillow, looked into luxury hotel pillows.
Eventually found that goose feather and downside are the best.
Like you I spent about £80 on one, was really reluctant at first but I've never looked back.
It's fluffy so I sink into it but it's supportive and fluffs back to its original size rather than going flat or lumpy.
