To spend £70 on a pillow?

I'm a side sleeper and often wake up with tension headaches that can turn into severe migraines that make me sick if I sleep a bit weird. My pillow isn't great, however my neck seems to be used to it for the most part because if I happen to stay over in a hotel and use a different pillow to mine I almost always wake up with a tension headache.

I'm looking for a new pillow with better support, it still soft and squishy. Something not too high or too flat that will retain its fluff and that's not memory foam.

I've come across these "double pillows" from Aeyla (hadn't heard of the brand before). They claim to have a more supportive inner core pillow with a fluffy outer pillow type cover around it that makes up the overall pillow. Has anyone used these before?

AIBU (or crazy?) to spend £70 on a single pillow? If it helps me to get a good night sleep and prevents tension headaches then I guess I'd be ok with spending that. However are there similar (or better pillow) options at a lower price?

We spent 100 on a pillow last year. My DH gets a really bad back and neck so we tried some in Bensons and he chose the one he preferred. It was delivered along with our mattress and it was SOLID compared to the one in the shop 😂

brunettemic · 21/01/2025 19:05

Why not, assuming you can afford it? I’ve spent £220 on a pair of running shoes.

Bryonyberries · 21/01/2025 19:06

I've got a latex pillow and it has been so comfy and lasted well. Think it is a dunlopillo. I'm a tummy sleeper so needed something soft but not too soft and not too high.

Americano75 · 21/01/2025 19:06

Have you tried a v shaped pillow? I'm a side sleeper and seeing physio next week for a neck issue, the best solution I've found is v shaped pillow but normal pillow in the middle, which I hug. Stopped me waking up in pain most of the time.

I spent £100 on a cloud tempur pillow - best decision ever! Go for it, sleep is important.

Seconded! It's fabulous. My dh though it was a ridiculous amount of money, but has now bought one too!

If you're a side sleeper I'd recommend looking at Levitex, also about £70.
Their whole 'thing' is about being the best pillow for posture, they're designed by a physio.
They're a fairly firm foam so feel very different to a normal fluffy pillow, but once I got used to it I wouldn't want to go back.
Totally brilliant. I bought one for me and then one for DH a few months later.
They do money back if you're not happy.

Came here to say the same!!! Life changing!!!

10 years ago I would have said absolutely not but now absolutely yes! I've got this, although was less than £70 in the black Friday sale and honestly is the most comfortable yet supportive thing. No more waking up in the night having to adjust the pillow to get comfy again.

I pulled my next once which left me basically immobile for 2 days. I couldn't do anything. I bought a memory foam one which is shaped - higher at front and back and dips in middle to support your neck.

It was about £50 and well worth it. I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks and worried how I will be without it - I might need to test a normal pillow again before I go and see if I need to take it with me.

I have one of these too, it's absolutely fab. Our top pillows were £90 each but they've been worth it, they're so comfortable. But my V shape pillow is on another level. The middle part at the V has softened slightly so has more give, but the number of ways you can place it around the neck, back, front - it's just so good.

I would just say beware of anything with that foam stuff if you are anywhere near menopause. A cool pillow was essential at that time.

I love to be comfy in bed but I have never found the ideal and long lasting pillow, or mattress, or mattress plus topper for that matter.

Having said that do your research and buy the best you can afford.we spent a third of our lives in bed.

Also I think Tempur do a trial where you can return them after a certain amount of time, not sure of the details as we bought ours from Dreams rather than online. I was so desperate for a good night’s sleep, I couldn’t wait for an online order to come.

erihskreb · 21/01/2025 19:27

I’ve just spent £70 on a travel pillow that will only be used a few times a year so definitely would spend that on an every day one! The cost per use will be tiny.

lakesandplains · 21/01/2025 19:29

Aeyla is a good company I've got a weighted blanket from them that has really lasted well. Yanbu to get a v good pillow.

RosaBaby2 · 21/01/2025 19:32

YANBU

I have a Dunlopillo and it is amazing.

Hankunamatata · 21/01/2025 19:36

I purchased a similar type pillow casper I think. It's cost quite a bit and went lump quite fast. Iv gone back to memory foam pillow with fibre topper

Sadcafe · 21/01/2025 19:41

Last two pillows have both cost that or slightly more, used the first one for about 5 years and still gave fairly good support, current one is a feather one, can always tell the difference when I’m away with other pillows, don’t sleep as well and more likely to get neck pain/headaches. If it helps you, it’s worth the money

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 21/01/2025 19:42

I bought an Aeyla body length pillow for DMIL for Christmas. She says it is the best present she has ever had!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 21/01/2025 19:45

Worth it if it helps. We spend a third of our life in bed and it sets us up for the day.

Thesonofaphesantplucker · 21/01/2025 18:32

Yes I was also coming in to say Dunlopillo. Mine was £90 ten years ago. It is AMAZING. (Although I should say, it’s heavy and on first glance it couldn’t seem comfy but as soon as you lie in it, it’s heaven!)

Are these the latex ones? If so, I agree!!

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 21/01/2025 19:47

I have Adam home pillows from Amazon they’re £15 for 2 and I really like them

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/01/2025 19:57

You could try £20-30 on a shaped pillow from Amazon first - it could be that after a couple of nights, the improved position solves your neck issues instead of having migraines on a really expensive pillow.

Ahwig · 21/01/2025 19:57

I have osteoarthritis everywhere and a neck injury from 45 years ago so a good pillow is essential to me. I even take it on holiday. About 3 months ago I got a multi soft memory foam pillow for side sleepers that has space for your arm to rest. It cost me about £40 and is absolutely fabulous. I bought one for my friend who has ME and she phoned me to tell how brilliant it is

mnat · 21/01/2025 20:00

I've spent more than that on a Tempur pillow due to neck ache, best money I've spent. Not woken up with a sore neck since I bought it nearly 5 years ago. Possibly need to replace now but I will wait until the neck pain starts I think, scared to change!
