Bit of a boring one I guess. I'm gonna get the snacks in for me and dd as the coverage starts at 3.30/4pm (UK obs)

I love to watch stuff like this, makes me feel connected to the world 😅🙈

Plus I wanna see if anyone slips up and let's their face show their real thoughts

Plus I'll be making comparisons between barron and Gary barlow's giant son

Someone said Boris and Kemi were there

and Truss, Farage and Laurence Fox. Farage did not get to hang out with the orange one but then he has a new love in the shape of Elon. As for the rest of them I think they rocked up without an invite to the main event. Happy to be corrected if wrong

GreatAunt26 · 21/01/2025 22:22

No. Why would I even be concerned about a former British colony that took in massive European detritus?
Let them get on with it.

HRTQueen · 21/01/2025 22:26

They mentioned on the news Boris Johnson being there

Wouldn’t surprise me if he is trying to cosy up to Musk and getting himself ready to replace Farage as leader of Reform

cardibach · 21/01/2025 22:36

justasking111 · 21/01/2025 21:53

They were at the inauguration. As was Liz Truss and Priti Patel. So some British were invited. I think Prince Edward was there too.

Edited

Invited? Or just went to Washington? The politicians you e named weren’t inside. Not sure about Edward, but he’s irrelevant anyway.

I'm watching. Can't wait to hear what good Donald does over the next few months. Stopping gender surgery on kids is a brilliant start! Taking the LGBTQ out of the classroom also a great start. Starmer is the worst Prime minister the UK has ever had and he is dangerous to the UK also. Trump and Reform are the only ones who actually care about people's safety.

I continue to be confused about the talking point re gender surgeries on children in the US. I'm American and live in the US, and this seems to be a misconception/propaganda. I really only hear about it from sites outside of the US and I can't find a single credible source to verify that children are receiving gender surgery, especially at a large rate. It seems to be an anomaly, if happening at all. Anecdotally, I don't know any American parents who are concerned about gender surgery on their children, nor know anyone who have had this done, know about anyone having it done, etc. I have found many articles refuting it, including this study from Harvard University. Where are you folks finding this information? Genuinely, it would be very useful to see.

Bishop Mariann Bude spoke at the service today saying American parents and children were now living in fear because of Trumps attitude to transgender issues.

Yep, Trump's attitude towards trans people is much scarier than the manufactured threat that trans people pose to cis people...because they don't. To be clear, I'm not a Trump supporter at all and voted for Harris. I just keep seeing posts/comments referencing gender surgeries on children in the US and I cannot find a single source that supports this. It's driving me nuts. Everything I see debunks this, which aligns with my experience as an American living in the US, so I'm really trying to understand why people in other countries seem to believe that these surgeries are happening, and en masse at that.

Just got home after a personally fraught day, and flicked on Agenda Free TV on YouTube. It's covering Trump live wittering on at the Whitehouse. Somebody please reassure me he hasn't been word vomiting for a solid 24 hours, because last time I looked yesterday he was just burbling bollicks then. Has he been replaced by AI, a robot, or have a couple of strategically placed Duracell batteries been acquired?

(DISCLAIMER - posting slightly drunk and particularly irked by smug middle aged men at present - please be kind, or I may have to eat another panini and pate and add to my middle aged girth).

I think that the presidential pardon being given to fsmily/friends of any president is weird

Trump has been vocal about coming after his political opponents and their families. The general consensus is that Biden did this to protect his family, whether or not there was anything with which they could actually be charged, in the event that Trump concocts a reason to prosecute them. It was a smart move, actually, especially considering that Biden's political career is over. He has no need to court public perception now.

I take it you never watch the long running and much celebrated TV show 'I am Jazz'? A young boy transed as a toddler by his parents and had genital surgery before he turned 18 and turned into a TV spectacle to boot. Even the surgeon Marci Bowers ( a trans person) admitted more recently it had poor outcomes and was not a good idea.

The most common surgery by far is radical mastectomies on adolescent girls who identify as trans. A number have since detransitioned and spoken up publicly about it with some bringing lawsuits against the surgeons. I believe some were as young as 13 when doctors agreed to remove their breasts.

Due to the American healthcare model it's been far easier for people under 18 to access surgeries they've then regretted as became adults than it is in countries that have more socialised healthcare models (although it has happened in other countries too).

You're welcome to believe it's not something that ever happened of course but in that case it doesn't matter if the Trump administration bans something that was never happening anyway does it?

I understand completely, just think that the whole thing is weird

But as another poster said, it's like lifetime peerages here

Could it be that like your abortion clinics there is an agreement that it's kept private?

Former presidents aren't on our screens often so we don't see a very slow difference in their looks. I hardly recognised Bush. Yes it's surprising to see them very much older but dare I say it the men mostly grow old gracefully while the wives fight it and go for face lifts etc etc.

Joe Biden has absolutely had a facelift and good for him tbh

What the heck does he need a facelift for at his age? Give it up!!!

He is in a public facing role. Washington DC has a thriving plastic surgery industry, not quite LA tier but still completely normal

It could also be flat face affect from his health conditions.

ruethewhirl · 21/01/2025 12:53

Yep. It beggars belief that in such a vast and diverse country the only people they can drum up to lead it are old men.

It does seem that way doesn’t it.. Reagan was in his 70s, Bush snr , Bush jnr all in their 60s, Biden , Trump all in their 70s..

Obama was in his late 40s, making him fairly young in comparison.

JD Vance is the youngest VP however.

Paul2023 · 22/01/2025 08:49

As for other political commentators who say they’re worried about what Trump means for world peace, well the world hasn’t exactly been all that peaceful without Trump has it?

What if , just if, Trump actually manages to bring stability to the world? He already put Israel under pressure to accept a ceasefire. Which Biden hasn’t done in almost three years.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if he cranks the pressure on Putin to stop the war too.

People like Putin need politicians who aren’t afraid to stand up to them and say it how it is. All the pussy footing around Russia, is exactly what bullies like Putin wants. He knows the West are scared of him.

Trump’s a maverick and unorthodox. But maybe it’s his style we need at the moment because so far nothing else has worked.

SpidersAreShitheads · 22/01/2025 08:53

hollyblueivy · 22/01/2025 07:56

So, was it a Nazi salute?

Fuck knows at this point.

I’m increasingly inclined towards yes, but I try really hard to be fair and I think there is still a possibility that it was just a weirdly awkward gesture given the whole “my heart to you” thing….. I say that as an autistic woman who’s prone to weirdly awkward gestures herself - although admittedly that’s never manifested as a Nazi salute 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Either way, Musk is still a sympathiser of far right views and has verbalised support for some very unpleasant individuals. He’s an arsehole, but unfortunately a powerful, rich, influential arsehole which makes him particularly dangerous.

Yes, I'm American and completely agree with this.

But, you know, let's trust X over Harvard...
