I smell badly- updated post

Aproblemsolved · 19/01/2025 17:55

Hi! I posted on here ages ago (I annoyingly can’t find the post and have namechanged since then) but basically it was about how I smelled badly of BO no matter what deodorant/shower gel/soap/products I used, no matter how often I showered and no matter how regularly I replaced my clothes.

just wanted to post an update in case anyone is about and remembers it… I found something that works! good old fashioned liquid roll on dove deodorant! I had tried most types of deoderant already and nothing seemed to work so I sort of stuck with the cream deodorant sticks (eg the Mitchum or dove sticks) but I realise how they were the problem

I think when I tried other deodorants I didn’t give them long enough and possibly still had traces of the cream stick on me (even after I showered) and that’s maybe why I thought nothing was helping.

I decided to give liquid roll on a go for a few days as I was unable to get the normal sticks in the shop and bloody hell the difference was insane. For the last week or so I haven’t smelled of BO once and I realise now that the cream sticks were the issue all along

For context- I showered last night before bed and used the roll on before bed and got up early this morning and didn’t shower- it’s now nearly 6pm and I still don’t smell at all. Previously I smelled of BO after a few hours and it was so bad other people were noticing it. I got my friends to smell me the other day and they said I smelled so, so much better and not of BO

random post I know but just thought I’d post in case anyone remembers because received so many amazing comments with advice and I’m so grateful for it all. I could genuinely burst into tears with happiness that it’s fixed I’m so happy because it was honestly ruining my life!

@Aproblemsolved roll on mitchum for years and years. every second day is all that is needed. and soap in the shower, no body wash!

Yes, Mitchum roll on is the best for me too. And soap.

JaceLancs · 19/01/2025 21:24

Sure or dove roll on work best for me

GameOfJones · 19/01/2025 21:28

I am a complete convert to Dove roll on.... just the classic one, it's so much more effective than any spray antiperspirant I've tried.

Katy7889 · 19/01/2025 21:29

Glad you have found something that works !

I have to use Mitchum, anything else I stink 😱

tryinganothername · 19/01/2025 21:31

I also remember you and am pleased to hear you have found a solution

BellaCiaoBellaCiao · 19/01/2025 21:31

That’s great news, I remember you.

mumda · 19/01/2025 21:32

Roll on!

iwillfghhjjj · 19/01/2025 21:40

I remember your post. Il reiterate that triple dry works for me when I had the same problem

TenerifeElevenerife · 19/01/2025 21:46

Always found Dove roll on to be good!
the cream ones used to mark the underarms of my t shirts, I douse the area in white vinegar and put it on a hot wash with biological laundry liquid, gets rid of the marks and any smells left behind!

Just a suggestion-- in the shower use a shower puff or something not just shower gel - so you can really buff yourself clean and get rid of any residue. Glad you found something that works!

Choccyscofffy · 19/01/2025 21:50

Very happy for you. I was initially surprised you hadn’t tried a liquid roll on, but actually if everyone tells you Mitchum / Dove is the best then I can see how you’d think those were the ones to use.

Redrosesposies · 19/01/2025 21:55

I've used Sure roll on for years without any problems. Changed it up a bit with different colours occasionally (Cotton Fresh or anti yellowing) but I definitely think they have changed the formula with the last bottle change as it felt really weird on my skin. Not smelly but definitely a bit soggy and stale even after washing.
Picked up a cheap one from Lidl last time I was in there and it feels and smells so much better.
So glad you've found a solution @Aproblemsolved

Dahlia444 · 19/01/2025 21:55

That's great news op. I remember your post.

I always used dove roll on for years but about a year ago I moved to a stick as it was plastic free. This last two weeks I've moved back to dove as after a lot of experiments I've worked out the stick residue is sticking to my clothes and they smell musty and make the clothes next to them in the drawer smell musty too. It's been ridiculous trying to work out what the smell is from. I've washed full drawers a few times now and pinned it down to the stick. With every wash the newer clothes are getting better. I might have to bin some of the older ones.

Alifemoreordinary123 · 19/01/2025 21:57

Remember your post OP. Love that you have found something that works, and for the update in the hope it helps another (also lovely to read good news)

Sunshineandrainbow · 19/01/2025 22:01

Off to buy dove,.. Was it the blue and white one @Aproblemsolved

Could you put the old ones through a very hot wash or soak them in a solution?

VanillaVein · 19/01/2025 22:08

Just another one here who's happy to read you've found a solution, OP, though I don't think I saw your previous post.

Glycolic acid on a cotton pad and simply wiped over each armpit is handy too. The acid exfoliates the skin gently.

BananaNirvana · 19/01/2025 22:10

Dove roll on is the best - never use anything else 😄

JMSA · 19/01/2025 22:12

Aww, many thanks for the update, OP. I'm genuinely delighted for you! And thanks for the update, as your post may well help someone else.

JMSA · 19/01/2025 22:15

I'm not sure if I've ever used the Dove roll-on. I always thought the container looked minuscule, but I could be wrong!
Sure spray for me, but I don't ever suffer from BO. I'm always paranoid about freshness down below though.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/01/2025 22:19

That's great. I remember you too. It's horrible when you feel smelly. I'm really surprised that dove roll on does the trick! I use it sometimes and it doesn't help me. I often have a weird onion smell in my pits that I'm sure is poisoning the universe. Though others claim they don't notice I think the being polite. Maybe I'll try the dove again ! X

Mudflaps · 19/01/2025 22:20

There's a few comments about using a bar of soap instead of body wash and I just wanted to add to that, I use soap bar but put them in a soap bag, I've had a few different types but the one I use now is the best I've had, its from Sostrene Grene but there's lots of similar ones available, it makes decent suds and provides a scrub effect which I like. I use soap from the Handmade Soap Company and feel fresh, clean and smelling lovely after a shower.

I remember. I felt such sadness for you. I swear by roll on deodorant. I personally use Mitchum or Sanex, have never smelled of anything other than the lovely deodorant smell.

I buy all 3 of my boys (2 older teens * an almost teen the roll-on Mitchum for Men or unscented & it lasts through stinky rugby & karate easily).

Christmasbear1 · 19/01/2025 22:22

So you weren't washing your armpits properly .
id recommend exfoliating gloves or African net sponge to really get into the pits. Normal body puff thing does nothing and I still smell of bo. You really need to scrub your armpits to get all the gunk out.

I’m so pleased for you OP. It’s brilliant you’ve found a pretty cheap and simple solution.

re the smelly vag issue…I found menopause changed how I smelt there enormously. I keep the short and curlies pretty short as I swim, but find now that washing with body wash (dove as it happens!) isn’t enough and only plain bar soap actually works to take away sweat and odour and keep everything fresh (obviously not actually inside the vagina, just outside pubic area). I also use a vagisil intimate powder (no talc) for really hot days/if I’m nervous and have an interview/presentation. But try not to use often as I’m sure it’s not great for the vaginal balance. Hope that helps!
