I had the mirena inserted on 8th Jan. I've had a lightish wartery bleed. The last 3 days that became a bit more very light period like. Ordinarily I have big clots and flooding so nothing like that!

However the last two days I've been dizzy, demotivated and very tired. The dizziness is really disconcerting.

Anyone else felt like this?

MagpiePi · 19/01/2025 10:18

I had a light bleed for about 6 months, so a few days sounds like heaven!

Could the tiredness and dizziness just be an unrelated cold/flu thing? I’ve been feeling like this for a few days.

pinkwillowtree · 19/01/2025 10:19

I had mine fitted on 16 December and I've been light bleeding since. They said give it 3-6 months

C1nnam0n · 19/01/2025 10:20

No I haven't felt the dizziness. I felt quite sick about 12 hours after it was inserted for a couple of hours, but otherwise haven't noticed any symptoms apart from periods changing to being very light, almost nonexistent.

I do feel tired a lot, but always have done and have 2 little ones so not felt particularly differently tired...similar with demotivated.

AlloaintheMiddle · 19/01/2025 10:22

Not good.
Daily light bleeding until I removed it (managed 6 months), gained weight and experienced anxiety which I never had before.

Some of my friends did very well with it.

lifebow · 19/01/2025 11:03

I didn't stop bleeding in that In having a lighter period now.

The dizziness it could be unrelated but I'm not poorly. Or feeling poorly in any other way.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

lifebow · 19/01/2025 11:04

@AlloaintheMiddle I'm sorry it didn't work.

This period is already lighter than my usual periods like unbelievably lighter.

I've worn a kind of thicker panty liner since the day I had it. I have a review in 5 months time.

I had it via GA as I was also having another procedure - and polyps removed and all this to help my very heavy periods

Had a succession of Mirenas for over 20 years, never a drop of anything or any side effects the whole time, truly brilliant to have no periods! I had to have it removed for cervix treatment and I felt quite sad about that.

RockingBabe9 · 19/01/2025 11:14

I had 6 months of spotting then things settled. I loved the Mirena. The dizziness is probably related to something else.

lifebow · 19/01/2025 12:29

Do you think? Is it connected to my hormones as it would be my period now so I have a headache and dizziness

OP posts:
MagpiePi · 20/01/2025 10:31

If the headache and dizziness goes away after a couple of days but then returns every time you period would be due, then yes, it probably is hormone related. If not, if is probably just a bug.

Tillow4ever · 20/01/2025 10:40

I hated my Mirena. I got a severe depression that made me suicidal. I could have physically ripped it out myself had the drs not agreed to take it out for me.

It took me far too long to realise what was causing it too - I regret ever getting it, will never have another, and will never recommend it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/01/2025 10:46

I had regular spotting for about 6 months then no periods or endometriosis pain for years until I finally stopped with it at 55.

blackskytonight · 20/01/2025 10:47

I've had mine for 6 months.
The first 3-4 months were hell.
Migraines, bleeding, suicidal, sick. I find it really painful every month. And probably other things I've now forgotten!

As each month passed, the symptoms all eased off bit by bit, so now I'm just irritable and maybe a wee but light headed when I get my period. The daily bleeding stopped around 3 months.

It's hard to remember when you feel totally lost down and mad during your first or second period with if, to give it 3-6 months before reviewing (Doc advice), but it's fair enough advice, in my opinion.

It is different for everyone! One of my friends got it the same time and has no issues, in fact her periods are far, far better!

PricklyLikeCactus · 20/01/2025 12:19

I replaced a copper coil with one in November and had at least weeks of constant low-level bleed.

The worst thing is the way my breasts feel so large and tender, like when I was breast-feeding, blooming sore footballs on my chest! Did anyone else have this? Does it go?

I've definitely had more brain fog and anxiety too but have put this down to changing the hrt patches I was previously on.

PricklyLikeCactus · 20/01/2025 12:19

*at least six weeks

lifebow · 20/01/2025 15:35

Thanks sorry to hear it's so up and down. My period is heavier today.

The dizziness I am now wondering is connected to a change of brand in my anti depressant? I had an awful headache this morning. I'm really hoping the mirena works. I'd rather have a light bleeding for life everyday than the blood bath I suffered every 23-25 days!!!

Ticketybooboo · 20/01/2025 15:39

Had mine for very heavy, clotted periods and apart from a few days cramping and spotting haven’t had a period since. Now on my second one. Wish I’d done it sooner. Hope it settles down for you as it was life changing for me.

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 20/01/2025 15:40

I had the Mirena for two years, got it after my periods became so heavy that I was changing products hourly. Took a while to settle down but I had two blissful years of barely there periods. Had to take it out to ttc and the first month I thought I was already pregnant because I was so nauseous / dizzy - then the bloodbath began! I’d forgotten how bad I used to feel every month,

I miss mine so much! I put off getting it for years as I’d heard so many horror stories so I wanted to share something positive.

Hope it works out for you OP x

Terrible, awful, climb the walls level restless legs almost instantly at night. Depressed mood too. I pulled it out myself (safely) within the week whilst sat on the loo. Symptoms disappeared.

I don’t think removing your own IUD is safe unless you are medically qualified.

Lobstercrisps · 20/01/2025 16:08

Yes I get days of dizziness after fitting as It touches the vagus nerve, which is why some women faint when it goes in. Took a week to lift really. I felt dreadful but it's totally worth it.

Hillarious · 20/01/2025 16:11

I had it fitted for heavy periods. Had some light bleeding initially, then nothing. Had it for about five years and sailed through the menopause.

That's why I said safely. I know my way around a vagina, professionally, and I'm perfectly capable of pulling on some strings when met with zero resistance.

soupmaker · 20/01/2025 16:17

One day of spotting after the first one was fitted. Second one put in after 5 years, no bleeding. I've been period free for over 11 years and will likely be on the other side of the menopause when it's removed. Only side effect has been weight gain.
