All inclusive hotel in Spain.

Fancy dress competitions for kids and kids club for general ents etc discos

Some of the male hotel guests putting on drag acts as evening entertainment

Two pools - one indoor / one outdoor

Sharing a dinner table with another guest couple at the hotel

Space invader machines /Pac Man etc

Pool table

VERY predominantly British guests

Hotel is right next to a beach

Plenty of cafes and bowling alleys near by for entertainment

Nice ‘bar’ area where you can also get drinks like milk shakes etc

Courier service so you have the option to go on day trips etc

Hotel guests in general are a bit ‘Phoenix Nights’ iyswim

So, what’s the verdict ?? Y Viva Espana?

My childhood holidays involved -

5 a side football competition

Scottish Country Dancing

children up to aged 12 had a nursery tea together in separate dining room

hotel had no alcohol licence but you could buy in local off licence

Many fond memories. The hotel has a very different offering now. A lot smarter / more stylish (and priced accordingly) and catering for weekend market rather than 7 day holidays

It’s the Santa Lucia Hotel, Palma Nova, Majorca ! 🙌

Some real misunderstanding of self catering holidays here.

I always go self catering
I’ve never cooked anything on holiday more substantial than toast
i don’t hire a car
I don’t load a dishwasher
I do spend most days laying round the pool - the weather is the main reason I go away. I love the heat 30+ is perfect.
I go on a couple of trips out usually on local buses or a ferry to the next island (I usually go to Greece)
I love finding different restaurants to try local fresh cooked dishes
My DS is now an adult but he has never been interested in kids clubs/entertainment
As long as he had a pool and other kids to play around with he was happy

Where do the other kids come from if you're on a villa holiday?

I don’t go on villa holidays - I go to small apartment complexes with maybe 15/20 apartments.

When DS was young we went in August so there were always other kids

Comedycook · 19/01/2025 13:23

Are children who enjoy dancing to pop music considered to be working class?

Reetpetitenot · 19/01/2025 13:30

I'd have probably loved it at 12, now not so much. I'm northern, wc, an introvert so sharing a table would be anathema to me.

We did an AI holiday to Spain last year in the summer holidays, it was me DH and 2 teens and it was fantastic. We purposely did a 4 star though and the clientele were fine. DH was really against it - he likes to fly to a destination with no plans and just walk and sightsee but this would be a teens nightmare. DH doesn't ever sit still and hates the sun but he decided that it would probably be more stress free than 2 moaning kids walking round some foreign village. Funnily enough though he always moans he never has time to relax and being there he did actually sit round the pool for about 45 mins each day!! Both kids made friends and loved the shows as they both do performing themselves. There was an adults only pool which me and hubby went to some afternoons and it was lovely. We never saw anyone drunk and all the families we saw and met seemed lovely. Would we do it again? maybe! But it was quite expensive - out of school holidays would have been much cheaper. I just loved the whole not having to do anything for a whole week!

just looked it up! It’s now adults only, which for us is a good thing (we don’t have kids), and we love Majorca so will be giving it some serious consideration.
Would still love to stay at the Solana though!

usernother · 19/01/2025 17:34

I wouldn't enjoy sharing a table. I wouldn't like it at all if other guests were loud and raucous. But otherwise I'd be quite happy to go because children would absolutely love it.

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/01/2025 18:06

Would run screaming for the hills. Drag🤢

Whoarethoseguys · 19/01/2025 18:09

No, Spain is a wonderful place to visit but that isn't Spain it's Butlins with good weather

sjs42 · 19/01/2025 18:10

I'd enjoy it, but:

  1. I would not like to sit with randos at dinner because I don't go on holiday to socialise - I go to get away

  2. I wouldn't bother with any of the entertainment, but I wouldn't be upset by the noise of it

  3. If there was one outdoor pool, I'd want it to be big enough to accommodate the guests without feeling like I was about to be jumped on by a random child etc. Or just too close for comfort.

Yes !!! That’s the thing - it IS adults only. I must admit I find this a bit disappointing. This is because when I went there in 1985 as a 12 year old I honestly felt that having the ‘older’ age group - 65/70 + there - is what helped make the holiday as good as it was.

Even aged 12 I thought it was great that the older, retired age group were there and it wouldn’t have been the same without them.

So I suppose what I’m saying is, if you cut one age group out, it’s not quite the same. So this is why I think it’s a shame it’s gone 18 plus only.

That said, from the pics it looks like it’s had an excellent refurb - in 1985 the hotel facade was brown and cream - now it’s much more of a slick white colour - the refurb looks great, to be fair.

I’m sure you’ll love it if you decide to go !

Sorry - this sounds like my idea of hell. One and only trip to Majorca was this. Never ever again, don’t care if I am a holiday snob.

MoonWoman69 · 19/01/2025 18:29

Ok with kids I suppose, but as an adult, my idea of hell!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 19/01/2025 18:30

I don't know which way to vote, but that sounds like my idea of hell.

Crazyworldmum · 19/01/2025 18:36

I grew up going on these types of holidays. Some of my best childhood memories are being in all inclusive resorts in Benidorm, Ibiza and Canary Islands. Proper working class holidays. 3 star hotels, outrageous entertainment and my dad filling my suitcase up with cigarettes to bring back home cause Nothing to Declare would never search mine.

Never heard of sharing dining tables with other random guests though what’s all that about?

So funny reading all the snobby comments on here.

This is the same as me growing up except didn't cycle islands as much. Back when I was a kid it was all half board too - but once AI came into these hotels we upgraded to it! Previously All Inc had been only at expensive/posh places.

With kids it's great. We can still eat out if want to - with a toddler we don't but when he's older we will, and did before children. A week chilling in the sun, it's got the pool, good food some entertainment. It's just an easy chill holiday.

Not every holiday has to be a cultural experience

CryJustALittleBit · 19/01/2025 18:48

To be honest I feel the blokes - the hotel residents - who took it on themselves to get on stage and do the drag act were brilliant!

I mean the fact they could be arsed to take the initiative in the first place is impressive !

This is a shame because Majorca really is a beautiful Island

CharityShopChic · 19/01/2025 18:59

All the people saying "not in a million years" or "I'd rather eat wasps" (wtf?) it's all academic.

OP is half-remembering a holiday from FORTY YEARS AGO when she was ELEVEN and putting the rose-tinted specs on it. Asking whether you'd have this holiday is pointless because you can't. Unless you've got a time machine handy.

Toptops · 19/01/2025 19:06

Oooh wouldn't be for me.
Not even when we were going in holiday with the kids.
But what worked then was pre erected and furnished tents on a campsite in Spain next to the sea.
We got there on the bus.
Was lovely.

PeonyBlushSuede · 19/01/2025 19:10

@CryJustALittleBit

We used to stay at a hotel round the corner from there when I was a kid!
