To tell him to remove the car seat?!!

Ttrwq · 17/01/2025 21:32

Dh needs wheels changing. He’s lost the wheel nut so that’s now got to be sorted too when they come out tonight to change them. Aibu to expect him to take car seat out to do this? Won’t it harm the car seat?

OP posts:
steff13 · 17/01/2025 22:56

There's no reason to remove the carseat. But, if you feel strongly about it you know you could remove it, right? No need to ask anyone.

B2B25 · 17/01/2025 22:58

We lost our locking wheel nut and had to pay someone to come and lob them off and fit normal bolts on them. I think they're a bit daft nowadays, is anyone still nicking alloy wheels?

It won't harm the car seat, I'm not sure how you think it could?

CautiousLurker01 · 17/01/2025 22:59

Erm, nothing inside the car, including the car seats, will be affected. They won’t even open the car doors…

PickledElectricity · 17/01/2025 21:39

It's unlikely but if it's making you that anxious then ask him to remove it before taking it in for you.

Or OP could needlessly remove it since she's the one that is being ridiculous.

Correct!

What a strange person.

To think you need to remove the car seat before changing a tyre? | Mumsnet

Is that not right?!

Home mechanic here. Been fixing motorbikes and Landies for years.

Car seat should be fine during a wheel change BUT removing wheel nuts usually resets the immobilizer.

You'll need to remove and charge the main battery if you don't want to end up needing a new set of keys cut.

Pretty sure the AA guy knows what he's doing.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

SWEET JESUS!!!!

You know that was a joke, right?

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 17/01/2025 23:42

Tyres and wheel nuts are outside the car.

Car seats are inside the car.

This is like saying you are worried your television will be broken when they are weeding your garden.

OUTSIDE THE CAR.

On a separate but related note your complete ignorance of this being two very separate things is worrying.

BarbaraHoward · 17/01/2025 23:49

Pretty sure we left the children in the car while a tyre was repaired once. Confused

ShamblesRock · 18/01/2025 00:15

The only time you need to remove the car seats is when it goes in for a MOT as they can't test the seatbelts.

This will be fine.

paulyispoorly · 18/01/2025 00:49

Eh?

CountryVic · 18/01/2025 06:04

I wonder if the OP is meaning that the back strap that goes over the car seat and clips on the boot floor will need to be taken off so they can get to the spare wheel, jack and equipment out? We had a wagon with the car seats like this, you can loosen the strap and unclip then when finished just reclip them on and tighten it all up.

Blueuggboots · 18/01/2025 06:36

oohlalalaa · 17/01/2025 22:07

Obvs you don't need to take anything out of the car.

Don't forget to get a jerry can of petrol, they'll need to siphon it out and you'll need enough to get you to the petrol station to replace it.

????

Twaddlepip · 18/01/2025 07:15

Ttrwq · 17/01/2025 21:37

It’s the nut bolt thing that’s been lost so that’s got to be replaced first

I have had an awful personal experience with a car incident so very anxious about car seats

Why would the car seat be damaged by the locking wheel nut? They don’t turn the car upside down to change wheels.

wombat1a · 18/01/2025 07:50

I would think removing it and re-installing it would have the potential to cause more damage to it (damged while stored and in particular re-installing incorrectly in a dangerous manner) than leaving it in place where it has been perfectly fine for the last X months.

Leave it in OP and have a cup of tea.

sanityisamyth · 18/01/2025 08:32

MrsCrabOrange · 17/01/2025 22:07

I promise you this will be fine, it won't have any impact on the car seat.

I'm sure everyone being rude to the OP has never had any sort of anxiety about anything in their lives 🙄

There's anxiety about things that actually might happen or have an effect, and then there's this.

NoCarbsForMe · 18/01/2025 10:23

Eh?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 18/01/2025 10:25

This is fucking bizarre. I've left my car seats in for wheel replacements, MOT's and other repairs.

You should for the MOT, otherwise they won't be able to check the seatbelts.

Both my car seats are in an isofix so can check seat belts without removing them.

HelpMeGetThrough · 18/01/2025 11:15

I'd go belt and braces and take off the gearbox and clutch as well.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/01/2025 12:22

might be worth removing the child seat in case the missing nut is trapped underneath it?

WeeOrcadian · 18/01/2025 12:29

OP, kindly, in what way would the car seat be risked / damaged / etc if it isn't removed for the wheel to be changed? Do you think the locknut is underneath it?

I think most of us are all kinds of confused here
