To tell him to remove the car seat?!!

Ttrwq · 17/01/2025 21:32

Dh needs wheels changing. He’s lost the wheel nut so that’s now got to be sorted too when they come out tonight to change them. Aibu to expect him to take car seat out to do this? Won’t it harm the car seat?

OP posts:
QueSyrahSyrah · 17/01/2025 21:55

The only way the car seat could possibly come to harm in this scenario is if you do remove it and it subsequently gets dropped on the floor from a height. Leave it where it is!

malmi · 17/01/2025 21:56

Oh have you got one of those car seats that attaches to the wheel on the outside of the car? Not recommended for long journeys these days

AppleBlossomMay · 17/01/2025 21:56

Ttrwq · 17/01/2025 21:37

It’s the nut bolt thing that’s been lost so that’s got to be replaced first

I have had an awful personal experience with a car incident so very anxious about car seats

Can you explain further what exactly you're worrying about? Because I'm very confused why you'd think changing the wheels would affect the car seat in any way.

whynotwhatknot · 17/01/2025 22:00

you ant change wheels without the nut so pointless them coming out

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 17/01/2025 22:01

@Ttrwq you know what, you're NUTS!!!! car seat is in the bloody car and the wheels are outside the car!! car isnt moving!!

Sushu · 17/01/2025 22:04

I appreciate you’re anxious but there is no correlation. There is no need to remove the seat,
so he shouldn’t do it. It won’t help your anxiety to focus on this. Are you getting any support if it’s based on a previous bad experience ?

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 17/01/2025 22:04

@whynotwhatknot actually, the aa can manage to get the nuts out so a tyre can be changed!! we have had to do that before when hubby removed the box from the glove box and put it in utility room, not realising what it was!!

MrsCrabOrange · 17/01/2025 22:07

I promise you this will be fine, it won't have any impact on the car seat.

I'm sure everyone being rude to the OP has never had any sort of anxiety about anything in their lives 🙄

oohlalalaa · 17/01/2025 22:07

Obvs you don't need to take anything out of the car.

Don't forget to get a jerry can of petrol, they'll need to siphon it out and you'll need enough to get you to the petrol station to replace it.

Knowitall69 · 17/01/2025 22:08

Home mechanic here. Been fixing motorbikes and Landies for years.

Car seat should be fine during a wheel change BUT removing wheel nuts usually resets the immobilizer.

You'll need to remove and charge the main battery if you don't want to end up needing a new set of keys cut.

Waffle19 · 17/01/2025 22:08

OP I am OTT on car seat safety so I get your anxiety, but - kindly - YABU

Zanatdy · 17/01/2025 22:09

They have to use some equipment to pull off the nuts (like a drill type thing). It does cause some vibration but your car sear should be fine.

Why do people love trying to ridicule people? OP is clearly asking a genuine question, no need to try and make her look stupid for caring about her babies safety.

Most mechanics have a tool for getting the wheel nuts off if locking nut is lost

This is not about a baby's safety.

This is about anxiety.

You’re really going to have to expand on why a missing locking wheel nut is going to effect the safety of a car seat.

SmellLikeStreepForCheap · 17/01/2025 22:29

I’m genuinely trying to understand this. Any chance of a diagram, OP?

Lunde · 17/01/2025 22:42

I've never heard of this being an issue and I live in a place where you have to change wheels twice a year, often at drive through places - once in a while a wheel nut shears off but it's not a big deal.

Emilianoo · 17/01/2025 22:42

Why does this exact same thing come up a few times a year on here? It's batshit.

LittleGreenDragons · 17/01/2025 22:43

😯

I think a diagram might be appropriate in this situation too as I can't understand OPs worry. Why do you think it will harm the car seat @Ttrwq ?

YourHappyJadeEagle · 17/01/2025 22:48

It must be safe to leave a car seat in place OP. Otherwise everyone would have to remove all car seats every time a new tyre was fitted. And we’d all have been told that every time we had it done. It’ll all be fine.

Sherararara · 17/01/2025 22:49

You really need to explain what it is exactly you’re worrying about? That somehow changing the wheels could damage the car seat? Or are you saying the locking wheel nut is somehow lost under the car seat?

Redmat · 17/01/2025 22:49

I think if you want the car seat removed for some reason nobody can understand, you should do it yourself. I'm not sure why your husband should waste his time on such an unnecessary task.

Unpaidviewer · 17/01/2025 22:50

Some of the replies are cruel. The OP obviously has some anxiety around her child's safety.

I would think the seat would be fine to leave in OP. I make my DH remove our when we have any work done that requires the front seat being moved. I worry that if they bash into the seat it would damage it.

WTF. I don't want to be rude to a stranger on the Internet who doesn't deserve it but this is one of the most bat shit posts I've ever read on here and having used this site for a number of years that's saying something!

It's not the first time there's been this has been asked.
