AIBU to think TikTok should be banned in the UK too?

The Sureme Court has upheld a decision to ban tiktok in the US. Am I unreasonable in thinking the UK should have done the same yesterday? Always puts in mind the opium wars, I'm sure some are more than happy (justifiably so even) to let Western youth utterly rot their minds

Why would you trust anything on social media? Absolutely anyone can say absolutely anything.
Mainstream media has to follow some rules. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
When someone says similar to your post I do worry that they moving into conspiracy theory territory.

To be fair, I don't have faith in any source any more. I've actually found debating on here to be incredibly insightful if I'm honest. I don't think it's tin foil hat land to feel that the media is bias or that it presents stories inaccurately. Social media absolutely is questionable too, I agree.

Looks like the US accounts are back on TikTok so that didn't last long.

I think we need to be careful what we wish for. For example, mumsnet has a reputation for being 'anti-trans' due to the strong presence of GC feminists here and this being one of the few places that allows criticism of said movement - note, this is the view others hold, not my own view.

If the shutting down of 'harmful' sites becomes customary then it's not inconceivable that sites like this one, or at least certain parts of it, might be taken down.

This is very true.
