DH has booked and paid a deposit for a hair tattoo without telling me

AIBU to be annoyed about this? He looks great for his age and has been bald since the day I met him, but I guess I have the odd bit of injectables now and again so I can’t really talk! It’s just he’s not mentioned this to me before today at all, and booked it without even checking with me first.

He said his mate from work has had it and it looks good but I’ve been googling and there’s some bad work out there which I’m worrying about. Do you know anyone who looks ok with it?? Trying to make him think this through first

Maybe he was a bit embarrassed about it, so didn't want to have the conversation?

Do you know who he's booked with? Maybe if you see some of their work / what training they have, you'll feel reassured (or not, and then you can talk to him about it).

Sounds horrendous.

UnderTheStairs51 · 15/01/2025 21:31

I can only think Raymond Van Barneveld (the darts player) and not convinced about the effect

Why does he have to tell you? Do you tell him everytime you face any treatments?

Fair question really.

StrawHatLuffy · 15/01/2025 21:38

I googled it.
Looks odd. Like it looks stubble but it'll be smooth cause tattoo...
Do not like.

Balding men should just shave it smooth and go full cue ball.. this may just be my personal opinion.. 😁

Dillydollydingdong · 15/01/2025 21:40

His head, his hair, his business. Maybe he doesn't like being bald?

Menopants · 15/01/2025 21:42

I get it, I would not want a man with hair tattooed on his head

He'll still be bald, just with a stippled effect tattoo on his skin

GreyAreas · 15/01/2025 21:45

I would recommend he research the best person and pay a lot, it's such a big risk and he needs to look at lots of images to know what he wants and what will suit him.

DaDaDoDaiDa · 15/01/2025 21:48

I don't understand how it can be a long term solution - if he's going bald and tattoos the bald spot, does he have to keep getting the tattoo enlarged? Eventually it will reach a point where he is a man with no hair and a big tattoo on his head.

GreyAreas · 15/01/2025 21:50

However, in your situation I think I would probably be supportive of his choice just because it is his choice as long as he doesn't have form for regretting impulsive decisions

MartinCrieffsLemon · 15/01/2025 21:51

Is he using his own money or family funds?

That's all I'd care about

You get your beauty treatments presumably without "permission"

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/01/2025 21:54

He’s told you before getting it done, he doesn’t need to ‘check’ with you before booking it though. It’s his body and his choice. Hopefully it looks good!

I think there's many men who aren't keen on fillers, lips, tattooed eyebrows, Botox etc but not their choice and neither is this!

poemsandwine · 15/01/2025 22:06

Well, exactly. Do you check with him before injecting stuff into your face? No, because it's your decision about your body. Same applies here.

This is totally irrelevant to the thread but I have never been more delighted by an absurd name. DH and I are collecting a puppy later this month (a brother to biggie and boots) I shall be campaigning hard to call him Raymond van Barnveld 😆😆

FrazzledHippy · 15/01/2025 22:10

As long as he knows he's going to end up looking a twat I suppose it's his choice.

Even if he's paying top whack and going to an amazing artist, in a few years when the stipples have spread out and faded to blue he's going to look a fool.

ThatEllie · 15/01/2025 22:12

If he doesn’t like being bald, wouldn’t hair replacement be a better option? It’s a modern version of the toupee, I think, except you can’t tell it’s there and it gets glued on. They wash like normal and go back to have it reset when needed. I’ve seen videos on TikTok and they look really good. Seems like a better use of his money than a tattoo.

HopelessHouseMaid · 15/01/2025 22:18

is he going to someone who specialises in SMP? I wouldn’t go to any tattoo artist to get it done. Make sure they are trained in it.

Growlybear83 · 15/01/2025 22:21

I think it sounds an odd procedure for your husband to want, but I can't see why he should need to discuss it with you first.

Men who are already completely bald have it done to look like stubble so they don't walk around with shiny heads.

devilspawn · 15/01/2025 22:32

I know a multimillionaire who had it done, no one realised until he said that it wasn't hair. It looked fine.

Sparklyflipflop · 15/01/2025 22:35

I knew a man who had it done and it looked great - it was expensive and took 2 sessions for it to show properly and then same as eyebrows/lips spmu had to get a top up every 2 years - like well done semi permanent makeup did not go blue and spread out as a pp poster suggested
