To always dress my baby in a sleepsuit

My baby is 3 months old and he only wears vests and sleepsuits. We have a few outfits that were gifted but I don't put him in them really because changing is a faff. Even body suits with socks, the socks don't stay on so fuck that. I've started taking him to baby classes now and in the 3 classes we've been to he was the only one in a sleepsuit. Does nobody else do what I do or is it like, considered lazy or something like if I came to baby class in my pyjamas?

Oh goodness don't give it even a second thought. Do what works for you and bum to the rest.

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 15/01/2025 15:26

People put babies in jeans??!

Devilsmommy · 15/01/2025 15:29

It's completely up to you what you put them in. Everyone has their own opinion and as long as you're happy then who cares what anyone else thinks🤷 my little one wouldn't wear babygro's. Hated his feet being covered 😅 so he wore rompers til about 2-3 months then long sleeve vests with soft joggers.

WickWood · 15/01/2025 15:29

It's your baby, you can dress them in sleepsuits if you want to dress them in sleepsuits. I have a 3 month old and he's in baygrows at home but I do put him in little outfits when we go out, because I want to, he's comfy and he looks adorable. Entirely your decision x

WickWood · 15/01/2025 15:31

Just to say, hes never worn jeans, that doesn't sound comfortable at all! I find him just as easy to change in outfits and he isn't a sicky or a poonami baby, maybe my opinion would be different if he was x

Devilsmommy · 15/01/2025 15:35

Can I just point out that the jeans made for babies aren't actually denim like our jeans. They're really soft like leggings. Same as alot of the dungarees. They aren't stiff denim, they're usually really soft and comfy

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/01/2025 15:36

We were at a baby sensory class today and I'd say about half the 20 babies present were in sleepsuits.

DS is 7 months now and I always 'dress' him for daytime but I didn't always when he was younger. He's always in joggers and long sleeve vests or tops, soft romper suits / dungarees or sometimes a footless sleepsuit. There's a world of options that fall between 'sleepsuit' and 'jeans'. I can't imagine putting him in anything as stiff as jeans for a long time yet.

FWIW I'm the odd one out who dislikes zip sleepsuits, because it's always a pain to wrestle the other chunky leg back in!

TENSsion · 15/01/2025 15:38

If you could only lie on your back and be carried around all day, would you like to be in comfortable sleep suits or proper clothes with uncomfortable waistbands and buttons etc?

Who cares what other people think? You’re prioritising your baby’s comfort x

I have absolutely encountered stiff denim jeans in tiny sizes when shopping for DS! Blows my mind why anyone would make them, never mind buy them.

MaltipooMama · 15/01/2025 15:43

My boy is nearly 14 months old and if he's at home for the day he wlll undoubtedly be in a sleepsuit! He goes to nursery during the week and has his trendy little outfits for this and any other time he's out, but at home he seems so cosy and comfortable crawling around in his little sleepsuit without any restrictions! I bought a shit load of fancy River Island outfits before he was born for 0-3m, 3-6m and so on (he was my first!)... well this time I've learnt my lesson and for our impending baby girl I have bought ONLY sleepsuits for her for the first 6 months!

Bumbers · 15/01/2025 15:46

Mine were in sleepsuits until a year. Get the ones with zips!! They are the best!

Hadjab · 15/01/2025 15:51

A sleep suite? How common! He should be in a 3-piece suit and dicky bow at all times, for shame 🤣

My kid’s spent pretty much the first three or four months in sleep suits. Everything else is a faff, and I don’t believe babies are really comfortable in skinny jeans.

Dress your baby how you see fit, ignore the haters, they aren’t the ones who have to remove umpteen items of clothing when a poonami occurs.

'This comment' is pointing out that the OP appears more concerned with making the child bend to their will rather than adapting to the baby's needs

Kindly get a grip 😂😂

Just to clarify- I always dressed my babies in the morning, but I put them into a clean babygro for the day. Just because they are in a babygro doesn’t mean they have been left in the same clothes as overnight.

Surely babies end up being changed multiple times in 24 hours though and awake at all hours so I wouldn't even say that's a must to do in the morning

Fluufer · 15/01/2025 16:00

All 3 of mine lived in sleepsuit, or just onesies when hot, for their first several months. Didn't bother with outfits until they were mobile and got tangled up the sleepsuit legs.

Made me chuckle sorry. Serious reply, baby is 12 weeks old not 12 months old. I’m sure their needs are to be fed, burped, nappy changes and cuddles. “Babies needs” aren’t to be put in a dress at 12 weeks.

"...because changing is a faff..."
Says it all; your baby will fit your routine rather than you adapting to you baby. Perfect..

Actually it is absofuckinglutely perfect for me! I love that my baby fits my routine ! I’ve thrived in maternity leave and so has my child because I’ve 100% looked after me ! I’ve not done anything anyone else has expected me to do, only done classes I have enjoyed for me and guess what we’re both as happy as can be! Actually currently on holiday abroad with a pina colada in my hand and if I only did things that fit into my routine I would be at home waiting for the next Poonami (don’t think baby can’t quite book herself holiday yet ) rather than enjoying my year off with my child I will never get back again. I’m a big believer in happy mum, happy baby so yes it has absolutely worked perfect for me putting ME first these past 6 months where possible - obviously not always possible when bf at silly o’clock etc

you do whatever you want to do @ItFellOffAgain with your child, no one will care as long as they’re safe but allow others to do what they want too- there’s 6 billion people plus on this planet and they’re not all going to parent the way that you think is right and guess what - how you parent your kids won’t be right for others - but your judgemental approach stinks and is ignorant! If OP finds it a faff to change her baby out of babygros multiple times a day what difference does it make to your life ? Literally? Unless you’re a keyboard warrior I can’t see how anyone could take umbridge with a mother putting her child in clothes that are convenient for her !

IMBCRound2 · 15/01/2025 16:18

If you babywear, you’ll need to size up to make sure their toes don’t get smooshed …. I always got her out of her sleep suit just because it was tricky for her to roll with all the extra fabric when she was out of the sling.

Oh right I've never come across those. I've only seen the really soft ones. Surely people don't put an under 3 month old in stiff denim?😕

This.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/01/2025 16:38

They only got renamed sleepsuits when companies decided they wanted to sell more ridiculous/fiddly/fashion oriented (and therefore needing buying new each time) outfits.

nellythe · 15/01/2025 16:42

Completely normal and perfect for a 3 mo. People are on all ends of the scale with this though - I remember having DD and the woman in the next bed on the ward to me put her 1 day old baby in jeans. I was slightly horrified.

someladdersandsnakes · 15/01/2025 16:49

Thanks to the vast majority, I do feel better now!

People saying about differentiating between day and night clothes, we actually do this. Daytime is all sleepsuits, nighttime he wears one of those long nightgowns with elastic around the bottom so you don't have to do up poppers in the night!

I know what you mean. It's just the 'done' thing I guess. Every class I go to, the baby's are dressed up in day clothes instead of baby grows. Not sure why.

IrisApfel · 15/01/2025 17:01

My DC are now all teens/young adults, all taller than me and they wear some questionable clothing.
Love seeing them grow up but sometimes I miss the tiny, squishy, babygro days. Not the baby groups though, they can stay a distant memory.
