To always dress my baby in a sleepsuit

someladdersandsnakes · 15/01/2025 13:19

My baby is 3 months old and he only wears vests and sleepsuits. We have a few outfits that were gifted but I don't put him in them really because changing is a faff. Even body suits with socks, the socks don't stay on so fuck that. I've started taking him to baby classes now and in the 3 classes we've been to he was the only one in a sleepsuit. Does nobody else do what I do or is it like, considered lazy or something like if I came to baby class in my pyjamas?

I had October born baby, who lived on sleepsuits until summer. I also went to baby classes were she was one of few on sleepsuits.
Personally I prefer to see a baby dressed as a baby, rather than a miniature adult. Some outfits looks quite uncomfortable!

JimHalpertsWife · 15/01/2025 14:24

I did sleepsuits for mine til 6mo at least - I used to get nice fun colourful ones for daytime and was a big fan of a fresh white sleepsuit after bath, for bed. Daft really to split them this way, but sleepsuits were perfect for them at that age.

We went to a formal event at about 4mo (dc1) and they had a "proper" outfit on and it was just a faff.

Too

Ahh, jumping on a typo! Well I guess it’s good to have confirmation that you’re just here to be pointlessly unpleasant

It benefits parent and baby to minimise unnecessary fuss or faff around changing, and most people would give a new parent the benefit of the doubt for such an innocuous comment. You’re missing the distinction between important care and all the other unnecessary stuff that some new parents feel pressure to do.

but for some people, finding a way to smack innocent OPs down is almost a hobby

I know, I realised as I posted it. Didn’t edit though as I didn’t think anyone would be petty enough to point it out. Perhaps you need to get off the internet and go deal with whatever’s making you so unpleasant.

@GothicCrackdown check out the typos @ItFellOffAgain made herself! A great example of Muphrey's Law. Grin

This thread is fantastic entertainment.

I was given an outfit with footed dungarees and long sleeve shit fort DS. They were the most worn item he had. They were actually dark blue towelling and grew with him. U could hand wash and dry them overnight and were great for crawling ( he was a winter baby) because they couldn’t ride up the legs. And of course no need for socks. These are similar but there are a few available online.

Oh, Dr Spock/the nanny expert et arrive!
I hane NOT mentioned dressing a baby in model or doll clothes.
Open you bloody eyes and read that my objection was that the OP thinks dressing her child in anything but a babygro is a faff.
Don't label your child, or the fact you have to parsnt it, a faff.

@Tootiredforthis23 see above. Comedy gold.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/01/2025 14:31

Personally I find parsnting a terrible faff. Grin

SnapdragonToadflax · 15/01/2025 14:32

Of course it's fine. They're babygrows, for babies. That said, I found the poppers annoying and by three months I tended to use a long-sleeved vest with just the poppers under the nappy with some leggings or joggers. Or I had a few footless zip-up babygrows which were very cute and I bought in every size until he was walking.

I think when they're trying to crawl babygrows aren't ideal because you get the loose feet fabric flapping along behind them. But if they're still lying down all day and sleeping a lot, crack on.

There is nothing cuter on the planet than a baby in a babygrow/sleepsuit other than a toddler in a babygrow/sleepsuit.

ItFellOffAgain · 15/01/2025 13:25

"...because changing is a faff..."
Says it all; your baby will fit your routine rather than you adapting to you baby. Perfect..

Were you one of those parents who had your 3 month old baby in Timberland boots before they could even stand? How judgemental must you be judge something that makes something slighter easier for a new parent and (benefits the baby because babygros are comfortable)? The baby is 3 months old for heavens sake.

I had many little outfits for my children and they would always end up back in the all in one type things ! Easier and comfy too !

'This comment' is pointing out that the OP appears more concerned with making the child bend to their will rather than adapting to the baby's needs

In what way is wearing a babygrow not meeting a baby's needs? How is it making them 'bend to their will'? Babies couldn't care less what they wear as long as they are comfortable, clean, and at the right temperature.

Tootiredmummyof3 · 15/01/2025 14:38

I love sleep suits on babies, they look so sweet. I didn't dress my children in clothes until they were about 4 or 5 months. And I think it was even longer with DS.
Maybe some judged me but that doesn't bother me.

UnreadyEthel · 15/01/2025 14:39

YANBU. I did make sure to get a photo of baby wearing any outfit they’d been gifted though to send to the gift giver, even if they only wore it for a couple of minutes.

Sleep suits are lovely. I hate little babies dressed as miniature adults.

Bbq1 · 15/01/2025 14:40

It does look like pyjamas and probably some of the other parents might be wondering why your baby is permanently in a babygro but at the end of the day, it's your choice. I personally love the little outfits and took a lot of pleasure in dressing my ds in day and night clothes and cute clothes when he was a baby . I don't know anybody in my circle who dressed their baby purely in sleepsuits. Re all the pp's commenting about babies wearing jeans there's a lot more than just jeans available - clothes in warm, comfortable fabrics, practical but cute.
Each to their own, though, I guess. .

ChampagneLassie · 15/01/2025 14:41

totally agree with you. I did get people comment a couple of times about still in her PJs! I think it’s the easiest thing all round for a little baby. My 2nd baby is almost 5 months but she grew out of 3-6 month sleepsuits at 3 months and the next load are way too big so I’ve been putting her in long sleeve bodysuits and tights which is also quite easy and warm. But I couldn’t be fafthing with actual clothes
