To always dress my baby in a sleepsuit

My baby is 3 months old and he only wears vests and sleepsuits. We have a few outfits that were gifted but I don't put him in them really because changing is a faff. Even body suits with socks, the socks don't stay on so fuck that. I've started taking him to baby classes now and in the 3 classes we've been to he was the only one in a sleepsuit. Does nobody else do what I do or is it like, considered lazy or something like if I came to baby class in my pyjamas?

I did the same and no one ever said anything to me. I would only notice what a baby was wearing if they were dressed like a mini adult in jeans , which look really uncomfortable.

TomatoSandwiches · 15/01/2025 13:32

All three of mine were in sleepsuits/baby grows and vests until about 6 months, there's nothing lazy about it, you have a new baby they don't need to be wearing clothes like us untill they start moving about more independently, baby grows are much more comfortable imo.

Commonsense22 · 15/01/2025 13:33

It's not about what people think - many take joy in dressing their baby in nice outfits. If you don't that's fine but there's a reason other people do.

There's also something about getting the baby use to day / night rhythm and clothes.

Fetburzswefg · 15/01/2025 13:33

Yanbu, I’m the same! I care about comfort and practicality and basically nothing else.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 15/01/2025 13:34

Kept mine in baby grows well past six months, baby clothes are uncomfortable and impractical for a baby anyway. You know to give the people that comment a wide berth!

"...because changing is a faff..."
Says it all; your baby will fit your routine rather than you adapting to you baby. Perfect..

Yeah, babies are well-known for having strong views on clothes and wanting to be put in complicated outfits 🙄

toastofthetown · 15/01/2025 13:35

It sounds like you’re the only one who’s thinking about what your baby is wearing. As long as the baby is clean and comfortable it doesn’t really matter if they’re in sleep suits or outfits. The baby doesn’t care, so the parent gets to dress their baby in clothes they like.

It would probably be good to get some footless sleep suits or baby leggings so your baby has some time with his feet uncovered. It’s really good for them to be able to discoverer the world with their feet and get to explore their feet too.

Bollihobs · 15/01/2025 13:35

As long as you're not still doing it when he's 5 and going off to school it's fine! 😂

Seriously, he's 3 months old and it's Winter, he's happy, you're happy, he's warm and comfy, it's all good, anyone gives you grief over it, ignore!

SwerveCity · 15/01/2025 13:22

I would much rather see a baby in a warm comfy sleepsuit than jeans and silly outfits.

This. They need to be comfy above everything. Also, sleep suits are adorable.

I can’t bear seeing babies with jeans on. Looks so wrong cutting across their soft little tummies 😭

Meadowfinch · 15/01/2025 13:38

Is baby happy, comfortable and warm? Are you happy with the easy of changing nappies?

Because if you are, literally nothing else matters.

Mine wore sleepsuits and little vests until he was 6 months old and started pulling himself up on his feet, at which point he was much happier with bare feet.

As long as you are changing the babygro from the one they wore overnight like we do with PJs then that is all that matters

Why though? Change it when they puke or shit on it, which will be soon enough, or after a bath if it's been a while. It's not like they are sweating to any great extent.

You spend enough time having to change a baby's clothes because they've made a mess of them to bother worrying about day and night clothes if you don't want to.

I don't think mine ever did - he wasn't really a sick-y baby, and he never had a nappy explosion.

I'd always change him from overnight, because it didn't feel right that he'd be in the same outfit for 24 hours...

You dress your baby however you want, my MIL bought my 3 year old DD some very jazzy outfits which she wears to Nursery, i’m always asked “is she dressed in pyjamas?” I just laugh and say no. I don’t care what other people think 😂

AnotherDunromin · 15/01/2025 13:40

Mine were in sleepsuits all day until they were about 6 months old I think! Children's clothes need to be comfortable, appropriate for the weather/temperature, and easy to move around in, and sleepsuits tick all those boxes. I actually dislike seeing babies dressed up in jeans and frilly dresses etc - I certainly wouldn't choose to wear that for throwing up on myself and napping the activities babies spend most of their time doing!

DD is nearly 6 months and usually in babygrows. She's currently snoozing on top of me in a nice fleece one that I put on her after swimming. I prefer the ones with zips. So much easier than the bloody poppers, especially when they start to wriggle around.
She has several cute dresses as well and wears those with thick tights. We never wore dresses growing up and I've only started to do so a few years ago. I want DD to have the choice when she's a bit bigger (she's getting loads of DS's old clothes as well).
As long as they are comfy, it doesn't matter. Our "spare clothes" in the changing bag are just babygrows.

Instructions · 15/01/2025 13:41

Oh god I would laugh at anyone who thought a baby in a sleepsuit was inappropriately dressed.

You're fine.

FutureFry · 15/01/2025 13:41

My 13 month old still wears them sometimes.
They're quick and easy and she won't keep socks on.
Also, they keep her belly warm in the winter, as she likes to pull up jumpers and dresses.
They're also lovely and comfy for her.
Plus the grippy feet parts are good now she's walking.
I love them.

Knittedfairies2 · 15/01/2025 13:41

Another whose babies wore babygros until they were about 6 months old, often with a cardigan.

FutureFry · 15/01/2025 13:42

@Kokomjolk 100% agree. I never change my baby in the morning but she's inevitably in a different outfit by about lunch time!

Ponderingwindow · 15/01/2025 13:43

Babies should be in comfortable clothes that facilitate easy nappy changes. Whatever clothing you have that meets those parameters is perfect.

Loads of baby jeans are elasticated, and don't dig in to the tummy. I don't really understand them, but they aren't necessarily uncomfortable. I guess like adult jeans - I've never found mine uncomfortable, but I know some people really do.

I'm not sure we need to judge any baby outfits. As long as they're warm enough and comfortable, it is what it is.

Iloveeverycat · 15/01/2025 13:43

I did this with all my 4 used to put them under dungarees too.

Lavender14 · 15/01/2025 13:44

When ds was 3 months old he would have had mainly sleep suits and then a couple of soft outfits (I think I had 3 or 4) and he only wore those if I wanted to dress him up a little. Other than that he was in sleepsuits and a little cardigan every day. They grow so fast at that age.
