Hi,

Has anyone else noticed a drastic difference in the cost of their food shop already this year?

I certainly have noticed a difference.

OMG I couldn't get over the price of biscuits in a big Tesco yesterday
I just fancied something cheap/own brand, but literally couldn't find anything

Their choc digestives have gone from 60p to 90p
No cheap shortbread, just some for £2.50
Hardly anything on offer

The average pack of biscuits was over £2

Wtf

I don't buy much in the way of biscuits etc but when I do I get them from home bargains, lidl or B&M.

Same as toiletries, supermarket prices are way OTT, again I go home bargains or savers - so much cheaper

@suki1964
that is also how i do my shopping
checking price per kg
and with 100g just move the decimal point
cheese i used to find £6 per kilo, it is now £8 per kilo, depending on where you shop of course!
just double checked, Waitrose essential cheddar is cheaper than Tesco, but not necessarily worth it if i have to make a special journey

But supermarkets will just pick the farmers with the best price. Most aren’t going to be impacted by inheritance laws, those that will will be spread out and need to compete with other farmers.

Not true. Farmers don’t set their prices. The world market does for most of our goods. For some where we have slightly more. Negotiating power the supermarket knows all our costs and tells us they will pay a few percent above that for a profit. As our costs move our price moves. It’s a guaranteed margin written into contracts. Also many farmers are now in 5/10 yr plus contracts like this. Make no mistake, when April kicks in food prices will go up.
