Parking - relatives neighbour left note on my car r

It's a late night parking thread! AIBU?

My sister has recently moved to a new area. She lives in a cul de sac with room for 1 car on her drive. I have visited maybe 2-3 times since she's moved in and parked on the street outside apposite the cul de sac. I visited this evening and when I returned to my car found a note from her neighbour asking me not to park outside their house. No please/thank you, no explanation, just don't park outside our house basically, very blunt. This is a public road FYI. They do not have a driveway, but they do have a double garage a bit further up the road (at the back of their garden I guess). I have attached pictures.

I don't want to cause problems for anyone, especially my sister but there is room for maybe 3-4 cars along that road so surely they're not asking every single person who doesn't live there to move their car?! What do you all think? Crazy people?

Noooo. No photos. All diagrams from now on have to be done by the poster who uses blue texta the one with arm, back written on it and long hair and a boob that turned out to be an elbow. Disappointment.
.

What?? This makes no sense. Can you clarify please?

You should have written on their shitty note:

"I'll park legally wherever I fucking like you cunts"

And posted it back through their letterbox.

Language! Unnecessary!

If it was impacting the health or wellbeing or me of a loved one then obviously I would choose to do something about it. But I'm not going to allow myself to get all worked up over a car parking space. I've got a lot more important things to focus my energies on.

Wouldn’t get worked up one single bit!

I would just ignore and get on with my life, I’ve also got other things to focus on.

My time would not be spent looking for car parking spots that appease bullies.

we are all busy people.

Does your sister have a DP or DH? Usually these self appointed street parking monitors will pick more on a lone female and my DD had this sort of thing on a street she moved into on separation. Telling her where she could put her bins, all sorts of nonsense about 'how we do it along here' mainly from a couple across the road who even had their own 'No Parking' sign attached to their front wall which was a perfectly legal parking space
(I ALWAYS parked there when visiting and they'd come out shouting but l ignored)
Then she met her now DH (a big 6ft burly fella as it happens) and when he parked there they never came out.
When he moved in never heard a peep again. Just bullies and cowards basically.

Yes, that's how these sorts usually go: once you kowtow to one bit of their self-imposed 'power', they think they have the right to dictate on any and everything. Like most bullies, it isn't really about the thing they supposedly make it about; it's mainly about them telling you that they are better and more important than you and that you must jump to their tune.

Also the "this is what we do here": they will gladly invoke all the other neighbours, to make out that you are the lone rider going against everybody else's wishes and unspoken agreements. In reality, the other neighbours will often be just as irritated by the arrogant one as you are, and any of them will also be the recipient of the bully's "this is what we do here" if they dare to 'disobey' them.

These nasty people are also the kind who usually think that whoever has lived there longest gets to dictate how everybody else lives there - although the one on our road lies and claims that he has lived on the street the longest, when all of us surrounding him have been here longer, if it makes any difference playing by his silly rules.

They're also normally aghast at the very idea that anybody who rents a home in their street should possibly have the same rights and privileges in using the road as the homeowners do.

It's amazing how many people would be bullied off a public road just to keep the peace with an idiot.
Anyone requiring you not to park 'near their house', is never going to be a good neighbour, so keep parking (legally) where you like.

Exactly! And give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.

My partner put a note on a camper van that parked outside our house but it advised the driver to park so that other cars could also park. His parking didn't leave enough room for a car to park in front of it or behind because of a dropped kerb.

Nothing wrong with that at all, imho.

This echo's my sentiments exactly, the “I’ve lived here 20 years” brigade, need to wind their necks in!

fairycakes1234 · 15/01/2025 09:37

I stupidly bought my house opposite a row of shops, the amount of times I've been blocked in, if I am trying to get out or in and the person is there I just get the usual, "ah jaysis sorry, I was only flying to the shop ", but everyone flying to the shop could take half the day, very annoying but I'd never leave a note even though I would be justified(I know there's no point, it's just be taken off and they'd drive off)

YourHappyJadeEagle · 15/01/2025 09:38

As long as you didn’t park across a dropped kerb or actually on the pavement I can’t see a problem. As it was late perhaps they’re nervous about burglars 🤷‍♀️.
as you know they can’t stop anyone parking on a public road so I’d ignore them.

That thread was very funny!! 😂😂

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 15/01/2025 09:50

You have to laugh when they actually claim that they own the road outside their house - and threaten you with the authorities or solicitors! They may as well threaten to report you for walking on the cracks in the pavement!

The one on our road is very well-known to the council, as he will repeatedly cry wolf about the stupidest things. He once insisted they come out with a lorry to remove a 'huge amount' of rubbish that had supposedly been flytipped outside his home. They came out and discovered that it was just an empty pop can that somebody had pushed into his hedge!

He's convinced that everybody hates him and refuses to talk to him because of his ethnicity (that isn't even obvious unless he tells you). Nobody could care less about that - the rest of us get on well and say live and let live - it's more the arrogant threats, angry shouting, nasty notes left on cars, enforcing trivial 'rules' that he's made up and harassing neighbours that make people dislike him - funnily enough!

I don't push it with him, as I don't know if he's just a nasty busybody or whether he has some kind of mental health issues. My DGM did have very poor MH and she used to tell me how horrible her street was, with everybody shouting up at each other. After she died, I met a lot of the neighbours and discovered that they were all really kind, lovely people - the 'everybody' shouting and causing unpleasantness was just her!

Blondiebeachbabe · 15/01/2025 10:05

IGNORE them. They sound crazy.

EdgeofSeventy · 15/01/2025 10:10

Has my father been reincarnated?
Maybe not because he skipped notes & went straight for the dog shit under the handle option 🤢 (yes he was a twat)
Unless there is a disabled parking bay or a dropped kerb since those pictures were taken then fuck him/her.
You aren't committing any offence other than one they've made up.
What does your sister think?

XWKD · 15/01/2025 10:14

They can fuck right off. They have no claim over the public road. Cheeky fuckers.

LazyArsedMagician · 15/01/2025 10:15

If they don't want someone parked outside their house then they need to move somewhere that isn't a fucking estate Hmm
Just continue parking there. It's perfectly legal. Keep the letter though and make a note of any others in case they start escalating.

People on here always end up suggesting dog poo, vaseline, sprinkling bird seed, potato up the exhaust and similar kinds of vandalism and criminal damage when somebody dares to park on the public road where they happen to like to park. That and reporting a car as abandoned and 'getting it towed', just because the owner hasn't needed to move it for a week!

I can't bear it when people think they own a stretch of road just because their house is built next to it. It's so annoying.

How do they even arrive at that crazy thinking? I mean, my neighbour's house is actually attached to mine - not just nearby - so why wouldn't I own that as well?!

More to the point, as these selfish egocentrics never seem to cogitate, why wouldn't my neighbour also own my house?! Why wouldn't the council own my house, as it's right next to their road?!

This echo's my sentiments exactly, the “I’ve lived here 20 years” brigade, need to wind their necks in!

We have a woman like that on our road. She thinks she's so important she just barges her way around and noses in everyone's gardens and houses.

My DH was talking to another neighbour one day and she walked up and started talking to the other neighbour like my DH was invisible and they weren't in the middle of a conversation!

They were nearing the end of their chat anyway, so DH just pointedly said "looks like I have been dismissed" and walked away. She's so rude!

She caught him by surprise so has already planned what to say next time she does it! Wouldn't mind so much but we've been there 15 years ourselves! She's one of the original owners on the estate from when it was built 35 years ago though, so she's super important you know...

I would probably still park there but would leave a note of my own on the windscreen to say "I'm sorry my perfectly road legal car being parked perfectly legally on a public road that happens to be outside your house offends you so much."

Do you think the van in the Street View photo came out to a note on the windscreen??

OP - we have to know what car you drive - I wonder if they've deemed your car not worthy!

Ilikeadrink14 · 15/01/2025 09:23

What?? This makes no sense. Can you clarify please?

Photo was a side view of woman lying on her front (topless), propping herself up by her elbows. Op only got a cropped image of what she thought was side boob of a youngish girl. Turned out when you could see the whole image it wasn't a teen looking aged girl or a boob, it was her elbow. Poor op was utterly mortified, as she'd complained to the company before posters on here pointed out her mistake 😂

I find any sort of parking row incredibly tedious and boring. I find it tedious that some people do park like twats and think rules don't apply to them, and I find it tedious that people think their made-up rules are real.

And most tedious of all, it is 9/10 because people cba to walk an extra 30 seconds.

Skandar · 15/01/2025 10:46

Ah, fond memories of a neighbour we had at an old house who used to come rushing out to shout at anyone who dared to park outside her house - her reasoning being that she wanted to be able to walk around her house in her nightie without worrying about people sitting in a car outside looking in.... There's nowt as queer as folk!

LittleGreenDragons · 15/01/2025 10:54

TellYourSugargliderISaidHi · 15/01/2025 04:07

You could put a little note on a notepad that says ‘why tho?’ on the pavement next to where you usually park, with a stone on top of it. Maybe a pen taped to the stone and see if they want to enter into correspondence about it? 😂

😂

I agree with others, ask your sister what she wants you to do. I'm assuming you know which neighbour wrote it rather than you guessing as it could be the neighbour of who you think it is, ie they need to get off their drive but they haven't got enough swing to get past easily, so not the directly opposite neighbour but the next one along iyswim.

Flossflower · 15/01/2025 11:25

I agree either with other people on here: ask your sister what she wants you to do.
You don’t show the other side of the road. Is it narrow? Where you parked opposite a driveway making it difficult for someone to get out?

Wow! What about pedestrians walking past who could have seen in her window - did she scream about an intruder when somebody was just using the public pavement?!
It's quite an arrogant pov, to blame other people and make it their problem for your laziness in not getting dressed or to keep your curtains closed.
