Random cupcake!

Has anyone else received a random chocolate chip cupcake in the post this morning? It's clearly a marketing stunt - and looking at the sender it may have come via Tesco - but I'm a bit foxed! Not least because I have a clubcard and never in my life have I bought cupcakes at Tesco - I am not their demographic in the slightest for this - I don't have a sweet tooth and never trouble the cake aisle when I go shopping. I'm not complaining, just seems a bit odd!

Have you ever bought a gluten-free product from Tesco? Maybe for someone else or had one as a substitution? I have unintentionally bought gluten free products online before if they were the only option that came up in a search for a specific item (M&S frozen cookie dough, and some sea salt and rosemary crackers). From the reviews, it seems I wasn’t the only person to make the same mistake 😂

I'd be searching the company in my emails to see if it brings anything up ! If not then more the mystery...

Yep went all through my gmail and there's nothing... I have honestly never heard of the company either.

Well this thread was a rollercoaster. I was excited by the idea of a random cupcake arriving in the post, then sad that I hadn't been sent one and finally relieved when I saw it was gluten free.

I am a regular cake aisle botherer though.

Like a day at Chessington isn't it! (Which was probably the last time I ate something cake-y as I have unfond memories of chowing down on a bag of fresh doughnuts... going on the Galleon ride... and then seeing those doughnuts again in the toilet about five minutes later... the folly of youth).

Excuuuuse me, but that's a muffin.

I do apologise, as you can probably tell I am very much in ignorance of all things cake-related. If I go to a birthday party and there is a Colin the Caterpillar they always save the face for me because they know I'm not the spongey type.

So I stand corrected and bow to your knowledge - muffin it is.

I would not eat it, it might be poisoned

I'm definitely not tempted to, although it does come in its own hermetically-sealed plastic wrapper! (But the poison could have been injected into the muffin earlier and the wrapping is just subterfuge/window dressing).

That is not a cupcake, it's a rather sad, uninviting muffin.

I'm sorry, my ignorance is showing. I should have just said 'cake' and not tried to be clever. I have a big knowledge gap when it comes to baked goods. Quiz me on pasta and I am a genius, but not when it comes to the cake aisle.

And weirdly I am now starting to feel sorry for the muffin after your post!

Are you or anyone in your house gluten free ? Schär, the company that made the cupcake, sell gluten free products so maybe you're on their mailing list ?

No it's just me - I am now trying to think if I have ever loaned anyone my clubcard and they might have made a gluten free purchase...

Nothing on their socials about it though, which you would expect if they are doing a campaign

Are you me?! I went online to their socials to check as well and NADA!

I am now also thinking that it could be like a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thing and I have won an Omaze house entrance to the Schar factory... wherever that is...

googles more

Ooh they are in Italy! Shall I just turn up on their doorstep with aforementioned baked good and see if I've inherited their manufacturing facility? It's in Burgstall which is in the South Tyrol - nearest airport is Bolzano... I've bizarrely been to Bolzano, I think that's where I saw Ötzi? Maybe I filled in a form at the museum?!

That is genius - that would make perfect sense, but I have home deliveries via Ocado and just top up at Tesco for wine fresh stuff. But that is fiendishly clever as an answer!

I must have done... although I am clinging on to the inheritance theory...

What does a never-ending muffin look like?!

I've never been sent a random muffin in the post but I have received random free socks before!

edwardcullensotherwoman · 13/01/2025 16:45

Is there a sender’s address on the royal mail label? I’d be emailing to ask how they got my address to send me random sweet treats and to make sure i have a permanent spot on the list

Ginkypig · 13/01/2025 16:46

What is it with all these freebie’s from Tesco that I am not getting 😡
