Yes it's insane. Surely we can go a day without someone starting a MN post on Elon Musk.

Just like all the other posts about him.

And it seems to me, you lived your life like a candle in the wind.

Shout out to everyone who reads Elon as Elton. Pinball Wizard he ain’t.

I keep reading it as Eton, so to me he's now called Eton Mess.

PotOfViolas · 12/01/2025 04:18

My dc tell me it's supposed to be pronounced Eee lon as I've been pronouncing it Ellen.

Changingplace · 12/01/2025 04:32

I’d been wondering why a billionaire was spending all day with nothing better to do than post on social media, maybe he’ll stop interfering in UK politics if he’s got this to do 🤣

Crazy they’re going ahead without formal local authority approval, but he like Trump now appear to be above the law and can just do whatever they feel like.

I can see people using this in Vegas tbh, it’s an absolute nightmare driving anywhere there and I thought it was an awful pretentiously expensive shit hole, your average tourist there will use it.

EasternStandard · 12/01/2025 05:45

I had the time and read the article, it’s interesting

Had no idea it was happening

Aside from the usual response to the person behind it it was approved and businesses don’t want to be left out

Then reading the California fires thread and gridlocked traffic it would get people out if they had it

Abhannmor · 12/01/2025 05:53

Monorail!

MrsMust · 12/01/2025 06:03

I enjoyed the punny name of the company

This!!
Why are people obsessed wih this waste of oxygen, but more tp the point, why do they have to share their obsession here?
It's like a daily print of 'Jackie' with Donny Osmond on the cover every time.

Monorail!

What's that name?

dottiehens · 12/01/2025 06:53

Well it seems that some people only have heard of Elon Musk. Also, at least we still have access to WiFi and international news but who know what the looney tunes have in store for us. We may not even know what evil Elon is doing soon at this rate.
I wonder what Rachel from accounts was advised in China?

Don’t bet on it. Apparently he’s pairing up with dominic Cummings to have a political coup here.

Sampler · 12/01/2025 07:06

@dottiehens I assume you are referring (ever so wittily) to Rachel Reeves there - but what has she got to do with a post about ole wank face Dr evil and Las Vegas tunnels ?

Monorail!

Isn't that the name of one of his children?

user22446688 · 12/01/2025 10:28

Well this is less about Musk than Las Vegas.

He's a megalomaniacal chancer. The idea that they're is allowing a private contractor to bore 68 miles of tunnel under a major city without a proper formal process, oversight or plans for maintenance I think is absolutely bonkers.

If they have a traffic problem, why not build a tried and tested public transport system?

They already have a tram system in Vegas.

I think the thought process in Vegas is they want to be bigger, better, more unexpected and ‘wow’ than anywhere else and this totally falls into that category.

Not saying Vegas is all that at all, I hated it, but that’s the mentality.

I get that - I'm American and I've been there once, you couldn't pay me to go back again. I'm just slightly boggled by the idea of a city, one at risk of earthquakes, allowing someone to just start boring networks of tunnels below it without constant oversight.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 12/01/2025 11:37

Maybe he’s trying to do Oceans Thirteen

BorgQueen · 12/01/2025 11:43

Well given the massive success of Space-ex, he obviously hires extremely capable engineers so if anyone can achieve the tunnel it’s him and his team.

His vision and determination did what Nasa couldn’t , his personality and political affiliations are irrelevant.

ExtraOnions · 12/01/2025 11:47

Musk and his ilk (see Cummings in this country), want to reduce the size of government, in particular the bits of government that oversee things like planning control, environment, licencing, workers rights etc etc. So they are unfettered by any sort of regulation - making pots of money for them, as well as an unsafe living and working environments for everyone else.

A small section is there and it looks like businesses don’t want to miss out on the larger one when asked

Las Vegas may be the one that convinces others, maybe cities with clogged fire unsafe risk will be next

I mean, his political affiliations aren't completely irrelevant, considering he was a Democrat while the Obama administration was bailing him out with $600 million government loan to keep his companies afloat.

But that aside, the point is the dangers of major infrastructure projects without government or environmental oversight seems like a dangerous path to be heading down.

Did you read the article?
