Do you do it?

Do you make your Dc do it?

Yes, unless I'm at the stables have just filled 3 wheelbarrows full of horse shit, and I've given all the horses a good scratch with my fingernails because I love the way in makes them go all Stevie Wonder, and then I've picked various bits of gunk from around the dogs eyes and mouths. In that case I tend not to both as the sandwiches in my pocket are covered in hay and dog hair anyway.

NancyJoan · 11/01/2025 17:14

No. And also no.

Sinkintotheswamp · 11/01/2025 17:14

Always. Even at home.

Personally, I can't risk an upset stomach or illness so I am very very careful.

bakewellbride · 11/01/2025 17:14

No and no!

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 11/01/2025 17:14

LouisvilleSlugger · 11/01/2025 16:57

No. I only wash my hands after the loo or if they have dirt on them. Same for my kids when they were small.

Same

MajorCarolDanvers · 11/01/2025 17:14

honestly No

LauraNorda · 11/01/2025 16:59

I don't wash my hands except after doing a poo.

And wee too, I hope!

Mamadothehump · 11/01/2025 17:16

Nope! 5 of us in our house and very rarely ill

Tisthedamnseason · 11/01/2025 17:17

No.

I only wash hands after going to the toilet, changing DD2's nappy, and before/after cooking. DDs are the same.

I don't really see the need if I'm using cutlery.

MissDeborah · 11/01/2025 17:18

Always and throughout the day, if I come in etc
We have a massive outbreak of flu, RSV,HMPN and Noro at the moment with 25% of the population ill.
Hospitals are at breaking point.
Yes they are spread by droplets but Noro is mainly faecal oral route and you can transfer respiratory viruses by touch.
Wash your hands!!!

Simonjt · 11/01/2025 17:28

Yes we always do

IVNO · 11/01/2025 17:32

My adult dc (in their 20s)) sometimes shout 'wash your hands for dinner' by mistake when they're back at ours if I ask them to call people to the table. I studied bacteriology years ago and there's some things which are hard to forget...

Wonderfulstuff · 11/01/2025 17:38

Yes and yes. Routine is 'dinners ready, wash your hands everyone'.

Not only was that the rule I grew up with but I also used to work in public health and handwashing is really important to staying healthy - especially for children.

Letstheriveranswer · 11/01/2025 17:39

I'm stunned at how many people here say they don't, have we learned nothing from the pandemic?!

I wash my hands when I come in from outside, especially if I have been in a shop or touched something loads of other people have.
First thing in morning.
After the loo.
Before eating.
After preparing food especially after handling raw meat.
After driving (steering wheels get grubby over time)
After handling animals.

And most people I know appear to be the same.

Rarely get ill.

Bogginsthe3rd · 11/01/2025 17:41

Some real manky dirty folk on this thread. Wash your hands more people !

Letstheriveranswer · 11/01/2025 17:42

biscuitsandbooks · 11/01/2025 17:11

Why is it gross if you're using cutlery?

Your poopy hands will be touching the cutlery handles that the waiting staff will handle to clear it away, before they take someone else their food and handle /arrange their clean cutlery. Your poopy hands will also be opening the restaurant door, handling the salt and pepper mills, moving chairs etc.

Perhaps you could explain in detail for the more carefree posters …?

(And yes, of course I wash my hands before eating.)

I've learned that I've got through 53 years of my life absolutely fine by not washing my hands before eating (but washing my hands after going to the loo, cooking taw meat/fish or doing anything that made my hands dirty).

Why would someone's hands be covered in poop just because they don't wash them before eating? Confused

Ilovecakey · 11/01/2025 17:43

LauraNorda · 11/01/2025 16:59

I don't wash my hands except after doing a poo.

So if you do a wee and wipe yourself then touch the toilet to flush it where you and others have touched after pooing you don't wash your hands? That's disgusting!

RockingLock · 11/01/2025 17:44

Yes and yes.

very frustrating as my DH doesn’t see the need and thinks it’s excessive so there’s often a battle between us when I ask him to do the same!

Poopy hands 😂😂😂

PeloMom · 11/01/2025 17:44

Of course! On both. Who wouldn’t wash their hands???

StormingNorman · 11/01/2025 17:44

Would never occur to me to wash my hands before eating anymore than I’d wash my feet. I wash my hands after the loo, if they’re dirty, before I start cooking and after taking the bins out.

Why on earth would you have 'poopy' hands brfore eating if you wash your hands after going to the toilet? Confused
