It is hard to follow your post without paragraphs or even sentence breaks. But you could try contacting Action Fraud to report it. CAB might also help.

LIZS · 11/01/2025 16:51

It is identity fraud. Were the accounts opened in person or online? You need to ring the bank fraud departments with age reference number. Why are they able to contact you now but not previously? Bailiffs suggest it has gone to court already, in which case you can contact them to challenge any judgement,

It's fraud then contact the appropriate department

mummkka · 11/01/2025 21:08

sorry to make it clear it was my sisters adress that i have fowarded all my bills to her adress but she hasnt lived there in years

OP posts:
MartinCrieffsLemon · 11/01/2025 21:10

So you forwarded mail including bills to an address your sister didn't live in either?
They could have used the bills as evidence of address.

It's still fraud, contact Action Fraud for help. But that would be why

mummkka · 11/01/2025 21:16

i fowarded my bill to her house she still lived in there for couple months and i choose the forward mail with royal mail only for 1 month so there should be nothing after she moved i will contact action fraud again but when i spoke to them on the phone they said they cant do anything as it wasn't stolen from me they just opened account in my name and told me to contact the banks which was no help also but thankyou i was just wondering if anyone had familiar situations and how did it end
sorry for my messages probably dont make a lot of sense but i had a hell of a day my hands are still shaking as i have never had any debts or anything in my name

Also formally report it to the bank fraud department with the police reference number. Have you run a credit check to see if there may be any others pending?

i will do first thing in the morning as i have to go by person into the bank because they cant share information on the phone
there is 2 cards more but its been closed by the bank and the banks are not in my city have to travel tomorrow to different cities to go into them
the police has came back to me and said they cant put it though as Identity fraud as they haven't stole from my bank account they have only used it to open account it sounds so stupid to me because my credit score is so s**t they said basically i have no looses even though the loans in my name cant rap my finger around it
but i have payed 30 pound for 2 years so nothing could be done in my name and we are in a process of buying a house which will be declined by the looks of the whole situation im so gutted and sick to my stomach

OP posts:
LIZS · 12/01/2025 11:05

I would call the relevant bank fraud department today and tell them you will visit a branch tomorrow with id. At very least they should investigate how the checks failed. You could also complain to Financial Ombudsman if they prove awkward.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 12/01/2025 15:03

If you are being chased by bailiffs for money then obviously there's an issue...

Do I understand correctly that you have been paying back £30 a month for 2 years. May I ask why you did this if it wasn't your debt?

mummkka · 12/01/2025 16:10

no its 30 pound for 2 year protection police told me to put it on as i need to sort out who is doing this

i gave bailiffs the proof that its no and its been written of by them and they accepted the proof so its not me

MartinCrieffsLemon · 12/01/2025 16:28

I'm just getting more confused
So the bailiffs have agreed it's not you and aren't chasing for debt? But it's still effecting your credit score?
And you can't ring up the banks? And the police are saying this identity theft isn't identity theft but have told you to pay them (?) £30 for 2 years protection?

mummkka · 12/01/2025 16:38

correct i did ring the banks up but they said i have to go in a branch to sort it out as cant confirm the bank details though phone as i dont know them i dont own any bank cards on these bank cannot confirm my identity though phone but i will go first thing in the morning tomorrow as it all happened on a weekend

i just wanted to see if anyone else was in this kind of situation before sorry for not making so much sense im just all over the place at the moment

OP posts:
LIZS · 12/01/2025 16:39

I've no idea what this £30 policy is supposed to do. Are you sure it is not a scam.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 12/01/2025 16:43

I still don't understand what this £30 thing is

MadnessIsMyMiddleName · 12/01/2025 16:46

Sorry OP, but you really aren't making much sense. Try and calm down, and plan what you want to say, rather than just typing it as it comes into your mind. We all want to help, but it's too difficult when you're not explaining things clearly, or using any punctuation.

Update😁

Went to all of the banks, They have managed to close all the accounts in my name, Also wrote off the debt from the fraudsters. So im glad all sorted

They said this is happening so much, especially when people thow their mail in the bins, there are now people who go though bins, as this is the only option for Them to not get deported, to use identity theft to rent homes, open banks and even for work . i found out mine were R gypsies claiming to be me, and because im foreign my self but i was born in UK, its supper easy because my name is foreign

I really hope this never happens to anyone!!!!! because the stress they have put me though is unbelievable

That is the only way i found out was though credit check, it go so low i wasn't sure why, then i check there were missed payments on bank cards i have never had before, and 7 different hard credit checks done but gladly onlt 3 were approved, and not all 7, not that is a good thing, but was easier to sort out. The banks have removed the accounts and closed it, but the default still on my credit chec🤢which is sad because were in process of buying a house, but i hope the broker will understand

OP posts:
Alleycat50 · 14/01/2025 22:09

You need to keep paying for cifas. Also sign upto the credit reference agencies and monitor your credit file regularly. As soon as my DC turned 18 I did this with them. They check their credit file every month and will pay for cifas too for the rest of their lives. As you say it may happen again the main thing is you deal with it straight away. I would complain to the banks and ask them what identity checks they did to allow the fraudsters to open their bank accounts in your name.

Also check your Gov gateway account for employment history or benefits taken out in your name. Since 18 my DC has been doing this too.

I do all these things too btw.
