You need to keep paying for cifas. Also sign upto the credit reference agencies and monitor your credit file regularly. As soon as my DC turned 18 I did this with them. They check their credit file every month and will pay for cifas too for the rest of their lives. As you say it may happen again the main thing is you deal with it straight away. I would complain to the banks and ask them what identity checks they did to allow the fraudsters to open their bank accounts in your name.

Also check your Gov gateway account for employment history or benefits taken out in your name. Since 18 my DC has been doing this too.

I do all these things too btw.

Your right i will definitely pay every 2 years for protection to avoid this same situation ever again. They shown me that the fraudsters applied online, They used 2 bills in my name, Which was the one i got with the bailiffs for british gas ,and other for essex and s water, also All the banks i went to, said dont need ID to open a bank card online, which is a shame because its just making its easier for frauds.

Check your Gov gateway they may have applied for benefits in your name or be working using your NI number!

I will do, i though they couldn't get benefits as i pay council tax on my house, and they would claim on a different one ?

They can because councils don’t always check. Sort your Gov gateway account out asap.

I'm glad you hear that you've got it sorted out OP. This really can happen to anyone these days.

We used to live very rurally, and so our letters were delivered to a mail box at the top of our drive, 150 metres from the house. Having heard about someone who had a house purchased in their name, having had their identity stolen in this way, I spoke to our postman, and asked him to deliver all mail to the house in future, which he was kind enough to do, and if we weren't at home, he would hold on to the mail until we were, which was really going over and above for us, and very much appreciated.

more update the police got involved now, as they deposited checks in person at the branch they can check cctv and go to that adress and arrest them for fraud and identity theft, fingers cross 😁

That's great news OP! I really hope they catch them and prosecute.
