The Rape and Grooming scandal is blowing up on twitter/social media and the extent of the scandal is actually mind boggling. Apparently up to 250,000 girls may have been affected 😱

This initially shocked me but when I thought of it, although I’m based in a rural area I know of two girls who have been caught up in it - one of whom in my class at school was raped in a park aged around thirteen and another family friends daughter found naked in a room with a group of adult men at the age of 14 and was blamed for leading them all on. Those living in towns/cities must see so much more of this?!

I’ve also heard today that Pakistan is willing to take back criminals convicted in the Uk of these crimes (UK-Pakistan Prisoner treaty agreement) and has been for a number of years but we’re not sending them back. I know not all perpetrators are Pakistani and not all Pakistani men are capable of such evil (and I work with plenty of decent Pakistani men), but of those who are convicted and born there why on earth are they still here in the UK if we can remove them as a danger from our society and their home country is willing to take them?

In have two daughters and I’m honestly terrified for their future given this significant threat to young girls in this country. It seems like no one cares enough to rock the boat.

YABU - No they should remain here and we should deal with it
YANBU - They should be sent back

@pointythings my comment was in reply to the poster saying what about the children in other country's and do they not matter.
Question away, Pakistani grooming gangs is that better ?

JaneVtwaddle · 11/01/2025 18:31

@JRSKSSBH my brain was also in gas lighting turmoil.. However you have to remember that it's an interesting illustration of how some people think and some unfortunately in our politics. When you witness first hand the deflection and gas lighting it's easier to understand how it all happened atthe time and why kier won't tackle it now.

How about just 'grooming gangs'? That is not to say that there should not be taillored strategies which are dependent on the local situation, but ultimately the aim is to protect girls. The laser focus on a subset of criminals who are not even responsible for the majority of rape and sex abuse is a distraction, and those gangs and individuals who are not being dealt with because of it are laughing - and continuing to get away with it.

onwardsup4 · 11/01/2025 18:33

@pointythings because we're talking about the Pakistani grooming gangs? There's lots of types of grooming that goes on. We are talking about this in particular.

onwardsup4 · 11/01/2025 18:35

It's about time there was laser focus on it, you can carry on what about this and that if you makes you feel better.

I hope the country can have honest conversations about assimilation. I know a British born man of Pakistani heritage, family still there etc who was born in the UK, schooled here, mum doesn't speak English but again has lived here for decades and raised 3 dc here.

He actually refers to English, to us as " your country"and talks as if he is from somewhere else inspite if being western himself.

It's very strange.

To me he is a modern educated man of dual heritage but he sees us as other?
How to people in these closed communities feel?

A man who is sikh was saying he feels it's awful that flags other than British flags have been flown from some councils etc and why do we allow it.
He said they hold onto their culture, they celebrate their traditions but they also love the UK and respect it and assimilate here.

Errors · 11/01/2025 18:43

So many people are conflating ethnicity with nationality and even religion on this thread - on both sides.
If a white male was born in Pakistan and therefore held Pakistani citizenship, and he committed a crime in the UK, then he should be sent back to Pakistan.

It doesn’t not matter if the majority of offenders committing these crimes are British Citizens. The ones that aren’t should be deported. Preferably to be imprisoned in their home country in my opinion.

As for expecting different ethnic/religious groups to publicly denounce these crimes… Would you expect all men to do so? After all, they are the common denominator here.

I know for a fact that many Muslim preachers point out that sex crimes are wrong and un-Islamic. But it is neither widely reported nor particularly effective in encouraging criminals not to be criminals.

Well unfortunately it seems that Muslim preachers are no better than preachers in other faiths when it comes to child sex abuse. This lawyer is touting for business (claims) with a blog on Imams convicted of child abuse offences in the UK;

This is very sad, but isn't reflective of all families with Pakistani heritage, nor of all Muslim or Sikh families. I live in a diverse place, with families from many backgrounds living together.

Just listen to the testimonies of the victims - time and time again it was the girl or her family who were arrested, not the rapists.

This will have a massive impact on the statistics if the groomers weren’t even arrested in the first place! This is why it’s such a huge scandal, as the published statistics/anrrests are not reflective of the crimes that have been occurring. A subset of the population have been protected from the law.

And you think white men don’t get away with sex crimes?! You’re so blinkered you can’t see the truth which is that is is MEN from all nationalities who are committing these fucking awful crimes. If you concentrate only on these horrific grooming gangs you’re only focusing on a very small percentage of sex crimes.
Wake up and look at all sexual assaults and murders of women and girls in this country and campaign to try stop it.

JaneVtwaddle · 11/01/2025 19:11

@Clavinova No where is safe and all needs scrutiny.

We have scrutiny, we are allowed to openly criticise the natinal religions..

What on earth is happening in communities where critics are not allowed at all.

istheheatingonyet · 11/01/2025 19:52

I supppose "we" shouldn't have poked our noses into Pakistan/ India and then invited thousands here as cheap labour.

I don't think that's really helping the abused children we're talking about is it? This is why it's been left to happen, too difficult too embarrassing and once everyone knows the extent and is allowed to speak about it there will chaos.

onwardsup4 · 11/01/2025 20:02

@LizzieSiddal of course we know all of that, this is about one certain thing and that's grooming gangs abusing hundreds of thousands of underage girls going unchecked. What is wrong with shining light on it ?

GingerWineIsGood · 11/01/2025 16:36

Agree, but if the parents don’t tell them, then someone needs to.

You do know I’m taking the piss? No one’s parents tell them that raping children is bad, it’s an inherent learned behaviour in ALL cultures. No one sat down and told me that cannibalism is bad, it’s an inherent learned behaviour in.

bradfordisdamned · 11/01/2025 20:05

Too many people trying to shift the blame when our girls and boys are being used like sex slaves

It's disgusting and everyone should be ashamed.

We talk about consent all of the time. That’s what I’m referring to. Have you never seen the 'cup of tea' animation? Children in our culture are told all of the time not to rape. If not at home, then at school.

And the cannibalism comment? This comes under the ethical discussions and debates that happen at school (and we have at home). Cannibalism is a very interesting topic.

bradfordisdamned · 11/01/2025 17:55

There is too much whataboutery going on here, as usual.

We know white men are fucking awful.

Men are fucking awful in general.

We should be able to call out behaviour and WE ARE SO GIVE THE DERAILING A FUCKING REST.

Parts of this country have a major problem with grooming gangs from the Pakistani community, but people bang on about BUT WHITE MEN THIS WHITE MEN THAT

WE KNOW. STOP DERAILING.

The point is that all men are awful but large numbers of the posters on this thread want to specifically target a specific group of awful human beings based on their race and nationality.

PromiseNotToCall · 11/01/2025 20:13

I agree. Send them back to wherever they came from.

So do you think we should accept it as a society, to pay for the actions of this island’s inhabitants two centuries ago? Don’t you think the immigrants came here willingly for the opportunity of a better life?

The light needs to be shone on all of them. Not just the ones who fit a certain political narrative. Because if the light doesn't go everywhere, gangs will continue to get away with it, laughing at us the entire time. The people on here who advocate exclusive focus on Pakistani/Muslim origin gangs are making life easier for all the many grooming gangs who do not fit that description. Is that really what you want?

Nobody in their right mind would think any of this is acceptable at all. It's utterly sickening.

But there are reasons why we are where we are. Complex reasons. Very.

Nazir Afsal has spoken about young women beign retraumatised. Do you honestly think Musk, Trump, Farage, Yaxley Smith care ?
