I've got the lurgy (unspecified variety, temp, throat, cough, aches etc). Wrestled with it a week but ended up seeing GP yesterday as I now have a chest infection (wonderful 🙄). Get your tiny violins out, people. 🎻

GP told me that 20% of the population is ill at the moment. TWENTY!!!!!!??????? That's millions of us. I'm staggered.

AIBU to ask : Are you one of the 20% ?

vote YANBU (YES I AM ILL) for ‘YES I am bloody ill. Thanks for asking, What a great way to start the new year’ Sending lemsip, turmeric and ginger remedies to all of you.

vote YABU (NO I’m NOT ILL). for ‘I’m perfectly fine thank you. Pah, doctors what do they know, and how on earth did you get a GP appointment so quickly?’

Happy new year Vipers one and all.

edited to clarify the voting options.

Not ill although have just recovered from a two week long sore throat thing which followed on from a cough that lasted for weeks. Neither were especially bad, just annoying.

MissHavershamReturns · 11/01/2025 10:22

We paid for private Covid jabs for everyone and flu jabs for the adults as kids got nasal flu through school. Might be worth considering as flu season

Tracystubbs · 11/01/2025 10:23

I felt a tiny bit grotty over Christmas but powered through

Dp however was really ill

To the point the oodie of doom came out (he does have a dressing gown but my friend bought him and oodie so it's taken over)

He got over it,just, quit his job (he worked ever long hours and I don't think it helped) and now feels so much better

No doubt I'll catch it soon and be floored by it

Partylikeits1985 · 11/01/2025 10:26

I’m actually pretty much over it now but since you ask, yes, I started off the new year with a chest infection.

user1471538283 · 11/01/2025 10:26

Yes me! It feels like every second person I speak to has it.

I've been sick since 2 weeks before Christmas. I felt better for Christmas Day and by Boxing Day I had a mouth abscess on top of a temperature and exhaustion. I'm getting there but I'm exhausted and I'm not sleeping very well most nights.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/01/2025 10:28

I got sick on 21 December after struggling on to the end of term. Was really, really unwell for a week - tested negative for Covid but lost taste and smell so who knows. Still coughing and snotty and yuck now, not helped by being back at work in a Petri dish of germy students since Monday. Really fed up and also very bitter about spending the Christmas holidays poorly!

Thighdentitycrisis · 11/01/2025 10:29

YES - day 5

debauchedsloth · 11/01/2025 10:31

Yes. Of the ten people I know well, six have a cold flu respiratory issue currently. Including me.

Samanabanana · 11/01/2025 10:41

Finally feeling better after a month of being ill. Whatever this virus was, it was a stubborn bugger! Even the kids took weeks to shift it.

MrsBuntyS · 11/01/2025 10:50

My DH has it and he is never ill, just can’t shake it off and the cough is terrible. Not Covid, he had that in June and was alright. This is much worse. He did the 5/2 diet for about 2 months before Christmas and I think that has made him weak. DS and I have both had flu jabs and are fine. I’m on immunosuppressants and so far been ok. My GP family member says that resting is the only way to get rid of this virus.

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 11/01/2025 10:53

Day 28 here

7 days of shivers etc, the rest cough cough cough.

I’ve not been outside yet this morning ing and I’ve not coughed so far. The test will be the -8 air in a bit.

I feel like I’ve popped a rib and been kicked in the kidneys.

Hoglet70 · 11/01/2025 10:55

I've got a hangover. Does that count?!

Aposterhasnoname · 11/01/2025 10:55

Yes, had it four weeks now and it’s only getting worse. Had to take a couple of days off work last week and I never do that.

Norugratsatall · 11/01/2025 11:09

I had something really awful (which stopped me in my tracks for a couple of days) mid December. Don't think it was Covid but didn't test anyway.

Was better a week later but had awful
Post viral tiredness and lack of appetite right through till the new year and beyond.... still feel sluggish and mildly depressed now. But I do have long covid so that may be a contributing factor. Happy new year eh?! 😕

PointsSouth · 11/01/2025 11:17

I have been sneezing, coughing, groaning and spluttering since Christmas Eve.

Delatron · 11/01/2025 11:20

When I went to see the doctor back in Nov she said there’s a virus going round and it lasts 6 weeks in most people. Lots of people were going on to develop chest infections and pneumonia. Rest really is the only way. I did not rest and developed post viral fatigue which is a bugger to get rid of.

Cravey · 11/01/2025 11:21

I've been unwell since Dec 13, thought it was shifting on Wednesday only to come right back down again, sore throat, temp, sore ears, bloody vertigo. It's like the gift that keeps on giving ffs.

Pottedpalm · 11/01/2025 11:26

LaPalmaLlama · 11/01/2025 07:44

Kind of- I’m coughing up a bit of green crap
so obviously got something but “I feel alright in myself” as my Nan would say. Conversely, in October I had a horrific cold/ cough that went on for weeks.

Same here; feel
ok but coughing so much my eyeballs nearly fall out 😬

Pleasegodgotosleep · 11/01/2025 11:32

Yes, started with sore throat and temp on Hogmany. Got steadily worse with head cold/sinus issues. Now on stetoids/Inhalers as struggling with chest.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/01/2025 11:41

No . I had lurgy twice in early-mid autumn, though.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/01/2025 11:42

(Antibiotics the first time)

ooooohnoooooo · 11/01/2025 13:40

@Tracystubbs maybe we should name it 'the Oodie of ominosity' ?

Nit sure that's even a word. But maybe it is now 🤓

DH & I both have cough and colds, his is worse and has lasted since pretty much mid December, we’ve both had flu jab. DD2 has flu, definite chills fever etc and miserable, Im always ‘you’ve just got the cold’ at everyone but shes really been poorly. DD1 has avoided us all and seems to have escaped.

Mukey · 11/01/2025 13:44

Nope. I work in dentistry and have people coughing right in my face all day, including ill people who come in with colds and I’ve been fine all autumn and winter so far. (Obviously yes I wear a mask but it’s only a blue surgical one not a FFP3 etc)

IsawwhatIsaw · 11/01/2025 14:21

ill since 21st December, it felt like flu though I’d had flu jab.
I’m better but still coughing a bit and tired.
just met a friend who was coughing and really unwell, worried now I’ll catch something else…
