Reform UK neck and neck with Labour?

1000 replies

NeatDog · 10/01/2025 11:09

Absolutely shocked to read that in a poll Reform UK are neck and neck with Labour...

About 25% polling share for Reform and Labour.

I thought Blair was the worst PM ever, but Starmer seems to be giving him a run for his money.

I'm not aware of any that weren't British, however I can't be 100% certain. You are so it's for you to provide that evidence. As far as I know they were all British.

5 minutes ago you said the "majority were British", now they are all British.

I wish you would make your mind up.

Not every country takes the attitude of the UK that someone who gets a passport after 5 years is "as British as you and me".

British is also a very confusing term because some people use it to refer to ethnicity and others to nationality, meaning it gets called out in pointless gotchas that derail conversations and obscure meaning.

Are you floundering around because you've got no evidence any of them weren't British?

How much of a benefit are you to the country where you work? Would it miss you if you left? Don’t we need uber drivers and takeaway deliveries? We certainly need cleaners and care workers who are largely immigrants.

We need people to do those jobs, obviously. Actually having people immigrate to do them is insane.

Ukraine is a bug country.... the war really only impacts the Eastern bits...

It's absolutely bizarre that we have accepted so many Ukrainians.

When your daughters can't get a house remember this conversation.

I don't even know where to start with the lack of humanity here.
Disgusting.

Yeah, absolutely shocking that a country looks after its citizens first.

All these Middle Eastern countries should become like Europe and allow in everyone with a good sob story.

No the middle east let extremely poor people go their country by manipulation and then they become modern day slaves and don't pay them and have terrible human rights . They seem to like them building their cities! Treating them humanly not so much!

British people on the whole don’t want those jobs. It’s not insane to fill shortage areas with people prepared to do the work. That’s the way it’s always been since the days my ancestors came from Ireland to work in the pits through immigrants from the West Indies coming to work in the NHS and on the buses to Filipino nurses and Eastern European care workers now. A couple of years ago there were crops rotting in the fields because nobody was prepared to harvest them.

You think we should allow Ukrainians in when the nearest fighting to them is maybe 500 miles away?

We should help them with aid.... in Ukraine.

I don’t have contempt for anybody at all, I just think people should be able to hit an educational threshold to be eligible to vote on serious matters like national governance.

It would solve most of our problems instantly.

So what's your stance on disabled people or people with learning difficulties or people with mental health conditions having the right to vote? Should they be stripped of it as they are " too stupid" to understand according to you? You have a very strange view of democracy if so, and not a society I'd like to inhabit.

letsallchant · 10/01/2025 11:33

Think back now, all the way to June: how many seats were Reform predicted to win in the general election? And how many did they actually get?

I believe in taking polls seriously but not too seriously. Reform as a new and unconventionally run party have some things in the favour but are lacking in others like activists on the ground. Labour shouldn't be complacent but neither should Reform.

More than double that of the greens, and more votes than Lib Dem’s who got over 70 seats.

i don’t think the average man on the street realises how much support reform actually have because of the way the seats got split. Reform pulled many votes from the Tories , who combined would have destroyed Labour.

(who incidentally, their ‘landslide’ was less votes than even Corbyn got!)

brassandswitch · 10/01/2025 23:40

It just shows that a lot of people are considering reform, even if they don't say it aloud. They will get in at the next election

He was British. He and some others had dual nationality and were stripped off their British citizenship. It's been constantly reiterated that the majority of men involved were of British Pakistani heritage.

If only we could find a half way solution to immigration?

Maybe allow workers in on temporary visas? Treat them fairly? But make sure they leave afterwards? Make sure they don't get passports?

Maybe even deport any that gang rape children?

So you're basically saying that even when Pakistanis come to Europe, and get a British passport, they still have a tendency to rape children?

It's as if, someone getting a British passport doesn't suddenly adopt British values?

That's the point you've been making?

No they are not. A recent report suggests they cost the uk £400000 each over their lifetime. I will go and find it for the people who can’t use google if you don’t believe me

Oh come on, @Blossomtoes, for someone who sees themself as on the left, this really is incredibly patronising. Of course people will do the jobs if they are paid properly and are treated with respect. You sound like you agree with the whole "British underclass layabouts, sitting around on benefits sponging off the workers" crap.

As for the country always having needed immigrants, my family were working down the mines. Irish people were brought over because the employers saw a way to undercut the locals, not because the locals were refusing to do the work. Same old story. The depressing thing is that this is now apparently left wing thinking.

That's correct. I said I couldn't be sure. I said that the Jay report said that the majority were British.
