Reform UK neck and neck with Labour?

1000 replies

NeatDog · 10/01/2025 11:09

Absolutely shocked to read that in a poll Reform UK are neck and neck with Labour...

About 25% polling share for Reform and Labour.

I thought Blair was the worst PM ever, but Starmer seems to be giving him a run for his money.

You really think someone coming to the UK to work in a car wash/ takeaway/ Uber driver is a great benefit to the UK?

Well personally I don't feel the need to assume they have to be a 'great benefit ' that's ur issue. Like I said previously I'm not superior to belive that the luck I have being born here should be enough to afford me the life I have and if others want to come here to live and work here then they should have that right. U can't assume everyone who comes here claims benefits and forces their belief on to u, I find it fascinating that u happily work in other countires and don't see irony of being angry at others that come here to work.

Ukraine is a bug country.... the war really only impacts the Eastern bits...

It's absolutely bizarre that we have accepted so many Ukrainians.

When your daughters can't get a house remember this conversation.

Its not bizarre its called empathy. U seem to lack it.
If my daughter is unable to get a house I will blame the goverment for their mismanagement and the rental market for lack of housing, not on the people who came here escaping war. Its typical get the working class to blame the poor and not the rich who are stoaking the flames and keeping the money.

BIossomtoes · 10/01/2025 22:55

How much of a benefit are you to the country where you work? Would it miss you if you left? Don’t we need uber drivers and takeaway deliveries? We certainly need cleaners and care workers who are largely immigrants.

I worked in the Middle East doing a job that few (if any) locals could do. Most Western expats are doing high skill responsible jobs. You really want competent people doing certain jobs.

I'm working in a European country. High skilled job...

I'm not even completely against immigration.

However we shouldn't allow low skill workers to bring dependents in.... and they shouldn't get a British passport...

Is ur work a benefit to the country u r in?!

@7plusthinking Absolutely correct - no wonder Sunak called early - he knew full well the chickens were coming home to roost economically -- they promised stuff they couldn't deliver , particularly with Brexit - my own belief is they didn't actually want to win either as they were aware they had bled the country dry

Spot on. I’ve just posted exactly that on another thread. It was a poison chalice.

My experience working abroad probably makes my opinion more relevant than yours...

Most countries don't have our attitude that immigrants are doing us this massive favour by coming to the UK.

When my job in the Middle East finished, someone from my employer escorted me to the airport to make sure I left the country. Compare that to the UK, we literally have child rapists being allowed to stay in the UK because of "human rights".

In the Middle East you get deported if you upset the wrong people. If you give the finger to a local while driving (and he's important) you'll find the police come to your house and you get deported that day.

This ‘bot’ claim is inevitable after a few posts from Labour, on every thread

Going by polling mn should be more of a mix I’m not sure why pro Labour think it should be the only site not reflecting current criticisms and shifts in public reaction

I see your point but it's starting to feel like Twitter around here.

Weren't the men from the grooming gangs British? Why would they be deported?

Standard procedure where I was....

The local paper often had articles about Asians being deported. The local police would hire a ferry and ship them back home. They'd have photos in the paper... maybe a couple of hundred Indians in handcuffs with police guarding them with machine guns.

Wow! The biggest increase in immigration under Tories, the biggest hikes in taxes under Tories, prison overcrowding under Tories, intrest rate hikes under Tories, wage deflation under Tories, but 6 months of basically nothing under Starmer and you're worried....fuck me.

I look at papers like the Telegraph, Mail and Express, listen to people on here , and its like they live in another country to the one I live in. Like it was a fucking utopia until Starmer got into number 10.

Completely disconnected from reality.

'Six months of basically nothing under Starmer'.

Yup, you're spot on there. Had 14 years to put a plan together and the best he's got is freezing pensioners to death!

Aside from your opinion on the number of refugees that should be accepted into the country, I would say your political views are fairly mainstream and uncontroversial. Certainly not extreme or far right.

I voted Labour and I would say politically you and I have more in common than differences.

The Labour party's own stance is that they intend to bring down net migration, reduce reliance on overseas workers, tackle smuggling gangs, clear the asylum backlog, and accelerate the removal of people without legal status in the UK.
https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/commentaries/labours-pledges-on-migration-the-data/

These are all things I agree with.

Of course whether they manage to achieve this remains to be seen!

I think what we actually differ on is not our politics but our faith in each party to achieve those aims. I am pretty cynical about them all to be honest, but I am particularly cynical about Reform.

Labour’s pledges on migration: the data - Migration Observatory

This commentary explains what the data do and do not tell us about the Labour government’s progress towards its goals as it begins implementing its plans.

If they are asylum seekers they are not illegal until their claim is processed and refused.

Talk about spectacularly missing the point...

Yes but the middle east also used modern slave labour where they would promise people from extreme poor backgrounds to work in building their cities and not pay and keep passport and just generally be gross and inhuman , I don't think the middle easy is the country we should be looking up to in anyway shape or form especially on how they treat foreigner's!

You literally contradict yourself in two sentences. You say the "majority were British"... that means some of the rapists were non British.

They should be deported.

All these Middle Eastern countries should become like Europe and allow in everyone with a good sob story.
