I need a bit of perspective from others point of view here please.

A 13 month old - given breakfast at 7.30, then instead of his normal lunch is only given half an eggs worth of scrambled egg at lunch time. No water or milk all day then till 5 when another adult returns home and finds out (and feeds baby immediately). The adult/s in charge of the baby all day 'didn't realise' ... ??

This is neglect yes?

Yes of course it is.

How can you not know that?

TMGM · 07/01/2025 21:45

Yes, it’s definitely neglectful not to offer a 13 month old water or milk throughout the day, poor thing. Thank goodness it’s not summer. I probably wouldn’t trust this person/people to look after your baby again for a while.

Jeeeeez · 07/01/2025 21:46

Of course it is. They didn’t realise human beings needed to eat and drink? Did they feed and water themselves?

I accidently hit yabu. But yanbu

Annabella92 · 07/01/2025 21:47

Poor baby

AlloaintheMiddle · 07/01/2025 21:47

Not great for sure.
Who is the adult matters though, some inexperienced 18 years old? A fully grown functioning adult?

ExtraOnions · 07/01/2025 21:48

At 13 months old, surely the baby would makes its feelings known if it was hungry or thirsty (and in scream the place down)

DoNotBlameTheMessenger · 07/01/2025 21:48

That is GROSS neglect. No drink or food all day?

You can change it by voting YANBU.

mnahmnah · 07/01/2025 21:48

Bloody hell! Awful! Surely the child was upset at this?! I sense this might be the grandparents…

Changingplace · 07/01/2025 21:48

How on earth could a person think a baby didn’t need feeding and giving a drink all day? I assume they ate? This person isn’t fit to be in charge of a child :(

shaylla · 07/01/2025 21:49

I'm not the mum.

I know it sounds weird to ask. I do know it's neglectful. When a situation is close to you and you know the people it's hard to see it clearly sometimes.

It's why i need peoples answers.

The OP has not said who this person was.

I assumed it was a male too, probably a deadbeat dad, possibly unfairly.

SchoolDilemma17 · 07/01/2025 21:49

wasn’t baby upset/crying? If adult in charge was the other parent, I would seriously reconsider things and not leave child with them again

Good, at least you know it's neglectful.

GreyBlackBay · 07/01/2025 21:50

If the baby is theirs it is in danger and you need to report this.

If it's not theirs but the mum left it knowing this is how the baby is cared for you also need to report it.

No you dont need peoples' answer. You know the answer!

Neveranynamesleft · 07/01/2025 21:50

Are you in a position to say or do anything so that it doesn't keep happening ? Or is it possibly a one off ?

Temporaryname158 · 07/01/2025 21:51

I would report this as it is probably the tip of the iceberg. Did they play with baby, change nappies etc. if they cba to give food and water then unlikely they took very good care generally

SwanRivers · 07/01/2025 21:51

I think you're going to need to state the relationship to the baby really, otherwise the thread will just fill up with guesses.

GreyBlackBay · 07/01/2025 21:51

If the child wasn't screaming blue murder it is probably used to this treatment. Report.
