Rachel from accounts has crashed the economy

1000 replies

Almn0etd · 07/01/2025 21:01

So borrowing costs are now even higher than when Liz Truss was around.

The economy is well and truly cooked and in a far worse shape now that Rachel accounts is in charge.

Why isn’t this dominating the news cycle? Because it’s Labour.

The Tories were atrocious. Labour are an indescribable disaster for this country, surpassing the lowest of the low bars. Cue Labour apologists who don’t mind being made poorer and having the country destroyed, as long it’s Labour doing it to them.

Can I add labour MP Jas Athwal to the list of wrong uns please.

I think you'd have to be specific if that's on the grounds of being a slum landlord or because of his assault charge teflon coat?

BIossomtoes · 14/01/2025 17:45

It’s on the grounds of him being a shit excuse for a human being who should never have been anywhere near power. That covers pretty much every eventuality.

I add a Foreign Minister who thinks Libya is next door to Syria and called Trump a racist, kkk, neo-nazi supporting sycophant.

Yes because I think he said a man can grow one. This is disputed on two grounds
1 He didn't say it
2 Men just can't

Upstartled · 14/01/2025 18:04

😁 I'd sure like him to detail where he thinks he can grow one.

Dismaljanuary · 14/01/2025 18:09

Jas atwal.

Hopefully this will link up with the grooming scandal and children going missing from care homes to raise standard for our most vulnerability.

MyNameIsX · 14/01/2025 18:11

Starmer is having a barnstormer. Appointing a Treasury Sec with some colourful familial links, and with selective amnesia, in addition to a Chancellor, who was/was not a former economist, and yet lacks the requisite core competence.

Totting up who Labour have royally pissed off during their tenure to date:

A significant number of:

OAP’s
Private sector workers/tax-payers
Private schools/PS parents/bursary recipients
SME’s
Farmers
The bond markets
High net worth/UHNW (many of whom have physically pissed off)

Who are we missing?

Oh, and Labour will soon hit many of those in receipt of benefits.

David Lammy really does plumb new depths of total fucking moron doesn’t he? Although I have a sneaking admiration for his Trump tweets. Clearly written by a man who - quite correctly - had no reasonable expectation of ever being Foreign Secretary.

But what do I know? I‘m just a rights-hoarding dinosaur without a retro-fitted cervix. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can't see this cabinet making it to the end of the year.

You’d think so, but watching the laughing and disregard I really think they are too clueless to understand their failings

I can't think of anyone who won't suffer. Inflation, rising mortgage rates, rising childcare costs, care homes unable to cover NICS. I could go on.

Downing street now refusing to rule out an emergency budget according to sky

GasPanic · 14/01/2025 18:35

I think most sensible people knew Labour would screw the economy up.

What they didn't know is that they would do it with 6 months of taking office.

Ye gods

I can't recall such an awful start for a new government, the political naivety, the poor judgment.

I'm really shocked at how bad it has been.

Dismaljanuary · 14/01/2025 18:43

@MyNameIsX

Well I've just heard someone on lbc calling out the use of the word brutal cuts to welfare.

He said, caveat, stats are vulnerable to manipulation, our poorest are the poorest in Europe and using the word brutal is sinful.

So add welfare claimants as well.

And some quarters of education who didn't get the money thrown at them, the unions for them are utter gob smacked.

I'm no labour supporter, but even I thought it would take them slightly longer to create this level of screw up.

MyNameIsX · 14/01/2025 18:54

I rather suspect Siddiq resigned in a vain attempt at damage limitation.

I think this story has legs - and she will be subject to an unexplained wealth order, or worse.

This will prove an embarrassment for Starmer. Remember, on 6th January, he professed full confidence in her.

It’s interesting to note that the retort to that from many on the left is to refer back to the economy under Bliar / Brown and how labour doesn’t always mismanage the economy. But what they conveniently forget when saying that is that that Labour government just stuck to the previous governments fiscal policies to start with. Brown cut public spending (though he massaged the books by using PFI) and increased taxes to reduce and then eliminated the budget deficit. In fact he turned it into a surplus. Public sector investment was actually less under Labour than the previous government for the first 3 or 4 years, despite an increase being a clear part of their manifesto. That Labour government was a master of managing the message and positive spin however, unlike this one. It also had some bright people in it. It started to go wrong for Blair / Brown in their second term when tax revenues fell sharply after the dot.com bubble of the early 00s burst, and the subsequent sharp drop in stock markets around the world. At the same time public spending increased, and the wheels fell of the waggon by the end of that term. Though, that took 10 years not 6 months.
