Rachel from accounts has crashed the economy

Almn0etd · 07/01/2025 21:01

So borrowing costs are now even higher than when Liz Truss was around.

The economy is well and truly cooked and in a far worse shape now that Rachel accounts is in charge.

Why isn’t this dominating the news cycle? Because it’s Labour.

The Tories were atrocious. Labour are an indescribable disaster for this country, surpassing the lowest of the low bars. Cue Labour apologists who don’t mind being made poorer and having the country destroyed, as long it’s Labour doing it to them.

Are you seriously claiming that the media is this country is biased towards Labour?

Really?

TikehauLilly · 07/01/2025 21:39

Rachael from accounts is a line from PMQs from Lee Anderson... reform party... oh dear Op. Oh dear.

Also what's the issue about her CV - she went to LSE had a job at the BoE for 6 years... why is she not a "proper economist" to quote Lee Anderson ... don't understand that

Katbum · 07/01/2025 21:39

Did you think that years of decimation of our public services and capsizing of our economy to drive up corporate profits was going to be reversed in a year or less? I think people genuinely don’t grasp the size of the problem.

Upstartled · 07/01/2025 21:41

But, things can only get better, right?

UpMyself · 07/01/2025 21:41

Go back to your copy of the Daily Mail, @Almn0etd .

Reversed? Can you point to anything hasn't got worse?

Porkyporkchop · 07/01/2025 21:45

Does Rachel from
accounts work with Colin ?

Sarahconnor1 · 07/01/2025 21:46

It's worrying times, and inflation is ticking up again. But to say it isn't covered in the news just isn't true.

Fleetheart · 07/01/2025 21:47

It’s extraordinary that people would expect that everything would suddenly get better after the mess we have been in for the last few years. No one said it would be easy and no one said it would be immediate. And anyone who has been to a third world country knows that a lot of the problems are caused by rich corporations acting without thought for the “little people”. Unfortunately that has been happening to the UK over the last few years - think Electricity, Gas, Trains, Water. Not sure you can blame Rachel for any of those. Blame the free market self enriching policies of the last administration. And don’t even mention atrocious tragedies like Grenfell towers- yet more rich people making money and sacrificing the vulnerable. Maybe it will take a little time to sort this mess out. Strangely the press aren’t really mentioning that.

Findmeelf · 07/01/2025 21:48

I think she has made some worrying mistakes with the budget. It certainly wasn’t a budget to stimulate growth, despite that being what we desperately need right now.

We haven’t had much growth since 08 as we never recovered from the crash. Did you think it could be fixed in a matter of months? It can’t be fixed tbh.

I don’t think many expected it to suddenly get better. But plenty are surprised about deliberate actions to make it worse!!

Ottersmith · 07/01/2025 21:50

Almn0etd · 07/01/2025 21:33

No they don’t.

Do you think mortgages are a good idea? Probably not then if you cannot see how borrowing can help you in the long term. An economy needs money moving around it to survive. It creates jobs and people but more things. Years and years of austerity have fucked us. Also you are sexist as fuck.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 07/01/2025 21:50

What’s even worse is the terrible relationship we are brewing with Trump into the bargain. Labour ministers historically taking the piss out of Trump on Twitter and now he’s about to take power he is hinting that he will impact the UK’s trading ability with the US. It really is a fucking disaster.

Or maybe blame Covid, Ukraine / Russia, and climate change?

Fleetheart · 07/01/2025 21:51

PS I never even mentioned the absolute disasters that are Brexit and the state of our Health Service or Education and care systems. In fact the more I think about it the more incensed I am about how our country has been steadily dismantled to enrich “the market”. How dare anyone blame Rachel for that.

HamAndMustardSandwich · 07/01/2025 21:52

I loathe that Rachel Reeves with her smug face. The Labour Party are truly fucking it up this time and I hope they don’t get in again at the next GE they will All these fools who thought that things would be better were/are completely deluded.

Full disclosure, I voted Tory for 20 ish years but voted Lib Dem for the first time last year. You couldn’t pay me to vote for Labour, they just lie, cheat and talk bullshit (like most politicians tbh) 🤷‍♀️

HamAndMustardSandwich · 07/01/2025 21:53

MillieMollusc · 07/01/2025 21:19

I think Rachel from Accounts is a reference to her inflated CV. She's not an economist.

That’s how I took it too.

HellsBalls · 07/01/2025 21:53

The government needs to stop spending, not keep borrowing.
Unless Rachel from Accounts is actually investing in infrastructure or technology, we are simply pissing it away treading water.
Things are going to get worse (the state of the roads are worse than the rest of Europe already), and may not even get better for another generation, if at all.
Where is all the fucking money going?

Fleetheart · 07/01/2025 21:53

@BotDranning nope - those have made things worse but they haven’t caused the problems.

TikehauLilly · 07/01/2025 21:54

I wasn't going to mention the B word... but we did that to ourselves.. don't think Reeves was at the helm cheering us to leave. Self harm. That did not help after the crash, austerity, then B then covid...

Also a famous academic paper supporting austerity and quoted by policy makers... turned out to have spreadsheet errors... and results and data then didn't support it... Oops... not Reeves again...

I can't belive Op and others really belive 6 months and labour should have miraculously sorted it all. Ffs.

And no I'm not suggesting I know the answers just have realistic expectations

BotDranning · 07/01/2025 21:55

OP, I can only take you seriously if you tell me you posted at the end of September/beginning of Oct 2022. You know, when Liz and Kwasi were doing their thing. I bet you were thinking, "Liz from Head Office has crashed the economy".......yeah, right

Fleetheart · 07/01/2025 21:56

@BotDranning you really believe what you are writing? I guess you do…

ForPearlViper · 07/01/2025 21:58

I, for one, am delighted that @Almn0etd has appeared on these boards like a Xmas miracle. I can't wait until he/she/them will pivot from telling us what is wrong with everything to telling us what, in their omniscient wisdom, in practical terms, will make our country perfect again.

Bonus points @Almn0etd if it doesn't involve Elon Musk. I would be deeply grateful if he/she/them will share with us his/her/their qualifications and/or experience in the economic/political/jurisprudence spheres.
