Rachel from accounts has crashed the economy

1000 replies

Almn0etd · 07/01/2025 21:01

So borrowing costs are now even higher than when Liz Truss was around.

The economy is well and truly cooked and in a far worse shape now that Rachel accounts is in charge.

Why isn’t this dominating the news cycle? Because it’s Labour.

The Tories were atrocious. Labour are an indescribable disaster for this country, surpassing the lowest of the low bars. Cue Labour apologists who don’t mind being made poorer and having the country destroyed, as long it’s Labour doing it to them.

We are a fairly representative example of a small business, now looking for a retirement exit. We have been exploring the opportunities for nearly a decade, and none of the approaches have delivered. We're selling a high margin, low capital business that demands high skill levels, with a blue chip customer base. But if we can't move things forward satisfactorily, we'll wind it up and vanish with our earnings and pension. When people like us start to consider international relocations, the Government has to take some notice, surely?

How original

Almost as predictable as the sector you work in.

Tbf no one asked @BeAzureAnt if they were a millionaire. It was their own need to let people know.

Well, it was because upthread a poster was upset that millionaires were leaving the country and how bad that was. I simply commented that as one, I’m happy to pay my tax, and that those millionaires who are only here to avoid tax should go. Then I got reamed because I didn’t hand all my wealth to the HMRC randomly, but explained how I was contributing to charity in a different way, such as contributions in my lifetime and my estate going to charity after my decease, and my lifestyle allowed me to do that.

There was a thread on net worth on Mumsnet and people put what they were worth…I’m far from the only one to provide that information, but I’m not going to provide a spread sheet and bank details :-)

You have to do what is right for you.

Seriously, does your MP know this? I would they would be concerned, regardless of political affiliation, and possibly able to help with connections.

That would require the government to know how business works. None one them have any real world business experience or real world experience full stop.

A couple of second rate lifer civil servants and ex charity workers is what constitutes this government. It makes you wonder how they hold a conversation when they meet entrepreneurs and business leaders and people who have achieved success in real jobs. They must come across as a bunch of clowns.

BeAzureAnt · 19/01/2025 18:03

Newyearsamebs · 19/01/2025 16:33

Nope. Less welfare, more people expected to contribute with full time work. All people entitled to state facilities, even those higher earners. Childcare, healthcare and education. Higher taxes for the lower and middle earners. No personal allowance at all. A cap on how much they can take. Higher earners who earn between £100k and £125k will be much better off and those above that will pay less tax on that portion of their income.

Bring it on I say.

Indeed.

I feel no need to chat with you about jobs, thanks all the same.

I find bitching sessions rather boring

You sought to rely on your supposed vocational experience, in order to support your argument, so my question was reasonable.

Noted.

No bitching here.

Of course. There might be government grants or schemes, but if the business owners have looked for a decade, I didn’t want to suggest things they already thought of. They have to do what is right for them.

So no one asked if you were a millionaire. You offered it up of your own volition at the same time as talking about wanting to pay more in tax.

There really isn’t a barrier to this, which pp pointed out.

Nor is there a barrier for you. Go for it. If you want to contribute more to society, lots of charities out there could use your help…time and/or money are greatly appreciated.

A million odd quid in M2M property - ten a penny - you are going nowhere.

I wouldn’t group yourself with proper wealth but you do you.

Eastern wasn’t the one who openly discussed her millionaire, charity giver status. You sound very Smashy and Nicey. “I do a lot of work for charidddddy…” it’s embarrassing.

Tony Blackburn is still out there spinning records and happy for it. He even does charitable work. Helping people makes you happy.

I don’t think I have to go somewhere. I’m happily retired and did so at 57.

Super, smashing, great.

Papyrophile · 19/01/2025 18:22

Well, if we are millionaires, it's down to buying a house 27 years ago, and making sensible pension decisions. Beyond that you are looking at a small engineering business that has had its ups and downs, and a one man band in professional services. Definitely not part of the oligarchy, but good at our trades, and now at nearly 70, quite reluctant to be plundered and legged over. I suspect I am closer to the averages than most.
