Advice needed for backless dress with big boobs

supertayto66 · 07/01/2025 08:31

I got my wedding dress a few months ago and loved it initially. The shop staff and my friends said it will be fine with a sewn in bra or body tape. But the more I think about it, the more I panic and want to change it. The dress is beautiful but it is backless, with straps. Will I be able to comfortably wear it while being supported? If so can anyone advise on suitable bra?? At the moment I really want to buy a new dress and it's getting me down. Help.

I’d get a different dress. It sounds as if you won’t be completely comfortable and you don’t want that on your wedding day.
you can get multiway bras but with a wedding dress I would be concerned about it showing.

sesquipedalian · 07/01/2025 08:43

Would it be possible to have the dress altered so you could wear some supporting underwear? I think you’d be more comfortable.

amoreoamicizia · 07/01/2025 08:43

Which underwear did you originally try it on with? Was that OK?

Outwiththenorm · 07/01/2025 08:44

Stick on bra stickers are great (painful removing however!). Try NOOD. Your boobs will not move unless you’re doing a highland fling.

littlemissprosseco · 07/01/2025 08:45

Don’t do it!

Brefugee · 07/01/2025 08:46

as the possessor of absolutely massive boobs: don't. Ever. There is no bra that doesn't have a proper back- and shoulder-straps that can honestly contain large breasts.

TriangleLight · 07/01/2025 08:48

I’d change the dress. It won’t work

Nevergettheusername · 07/01/2025 08:49

I would get a different dress, backless and big boobs don't balance visually imv

It annoys me that clothes designs so often ignore breasts. All these dresses without built-in support that also can't be worn with a bra, who do they think can wear them? Only late teens, early twenties girls with A/B cup, at a guess. I don't have large breasts anymore and even now with a B cup I'm not going braless under any circumstances. 😐 It's a total disregard for the female form.

Have you tried out any tape?

If that doesn’t work, then you have to commit to the dress and get alterations done.

If your first reaction to that was misgivings, then get another dress

Which might be a good idea anyhow. Do you really want to be wearing something that is such a departure from your usual style on the most-photographed day of your life?

amoreoamicizia · 07/01/2025 08:53

I did see lots of different tape brands in TK Maxx, some resembled duct tape. I guess it could be worth testing?

Butterflyfern · 07/01/2025 08:54

How big are we talking?

I'm a 30e and almost bought the most beautiful flowy silk backless dress. However said I wanted to make sure I could find underwear first. I never managed to find anything that gave me the support I wanted. I didn't want photos of me walking down the aisle to be all "jiggle". And I wanted to be able to dance without worrying etc.

I did find some lovely low back corsets, which may work for you, but my dress was too low for them.

ny20005 · 07/01/2025 08:54

I wore a corset. I was so paranoid about needing good supporting underwear but corset was the only way & it was perfect.

I had no movement at all

fortheloveofcollies · 07/01/2025 08:59

You don't wear a bra with a wedding dress. I'm a G cup and my dress was backless. At your wedding dress fittings they sew bra cups in and fit the dress perfectly so you are fully supported. I was comfortable and supported all day. I would never normally wear backless as sticky bras are useless.

User457788 · 07/01/2025 09:02

It's so noticeable at a wedding when the bride keeps fiddling with her dress and hoiking it up all day, it's really off putting and one of the reasons I did not choose a strapless or backless gown for my wedding - I have 36HH breasts for context. You want to feel comfortable, look amazing and not have to fiddle with the dress at all once it's on. I'd go for another fitting and see how you feel.

Unlovablerogue · 07/01/2025 09:03

Another large boobed lady saying change the dress.

canyouletthedogoutplease · 07/01/2025 09:13

It's not the staff or your friends that have to wear it. You know if you feel comfortable or not, go back to the shop and ask them if they're planning on adding in support at the fitting, and if that doesn't make you feel better then swap the dress. There' no point in dreading wearing it, you can choose not to.

Yes I know, I don't know what I was thinking to be honest. I haven't tried the tape yet but ordered some to give it a go. If not it may a change of dress which I really can't afford. Thanks

34E. They have reduced a bit in the last few months with weight loss which I'm continuing with, however not sure if they will get much smaller now

I know Blush
Have not had any fittings yet so will see how the first goes. Thanks

My advice is that people with big boobs rarely suit these dresses. We can’t all suit every style of clothes.

i have quite large boobs and I’d never buy a backless dress.

This, the seamstress sewed a bra into my dress (just the cups) and it held perfectly all day. Your dress will hold you in don't worry
