To think BBC news is lost to us now - bloody Farage on this morning

Why is he being platformed yet again to repeat the surely libellous and undoubtedly inflammatory language about KS and JP spouting from Elon Musk. Saying it's free speech?! Just irresponsible and vile. Even the way he refers to the PM as Starmer is just so rude and disrespectful.

I'm a massive supporter of the BBC and the licence fee but the news branch has clearly been infested with Tory supporters in high places and it's just not what it was now.

It's reputation and standing is being shredded😓.

The BBC has been highlighting the right wing for a long time
I no longer watch it

I haven't said I want him cancelled. That's not a term or a process that's on my radar really. But he shouldn't get the airtime he does and other small parties should get broadly the same as he does.

Why not? His party got more votes than the Libdems. Why shouldn’t he get the airtime?

You are way behind the times in your activism against Farage. He has gone mainstream now. Whether you like it or not, he is a parliamentarian, and the third largest populate vote winner in the country, behind only Labour and the Tories.

bombastix · 05/01/2025 12:30

Tbh I do find it completely weird that Elon Musk has the inclination towards the finer points of British politics like Tommy Robinson. That was so weird that I agree he is being fed information. Farage has quickly, and uncharacteristically been very specific about Tommy Robinson and his contempt of court.

Musk is out for a few UK government contracts as he has done in the US most likely. The idea he is concerned for the UK or its people is laughable. Tweets are cheap, aren’t they?

Almn0etd · 05/01/2025 12:42

Still waiting to find out what Farage said in the interview that was libelous? What claims did he repeat?

OP seems to have gone quiet, seemingly unable to back her own point.

Anyone know?

Tricho · 05/01/2025 12:44

You poor thing, how awful you've been pulled out of your vacuum and forced to listen to points of view you don't agree with.

Wahhh wahhh grumble grumble

Suspect the op was counting on support from the mumsnet echo chamber. Looks like those days are over lol

People? Who are these dense people you believe exist, do all the dense people vote for one single party?

Honestly! What an attitude to have.

One party? Where did I mention a single party. That you've read my post to mean that is a point in hand.

HRkittenheels · 05/01/2025 12:51

It was exactly the same around Brexit. Makes you wonder who's bankrolling all these appearances, eh.

SleepToad · 05/01/2025 12:52

eurochick · 05/01/2025 09:35

He shouldn't be cancelled but he has been given a platform over and above what is appropriate for his level of political support for at least a decade.

His party got 4 million plus votes at the last election and more party members than the Tory's.
Plus he is the only politician who has actually achieved their political goal since Churchill and the second world war was won.

Gorgeousfeet · 05/01/2025 12:53

Errors · 05/01/2025 09:30

The BBC is supposed to be politically neutral (although I find that questionable at the best of times) that means giving air time to a range of different political figures… not just the ones you agree with.

Yep.

blackandwhitefur · 05/01/2025 12:53

With all due respect you need to grow up a bit and understand the seismic impact of what Elon's and Trumps support means to Reform. Of course the BBC need to cover it. The impact of social media in this day and age is huge. Not sure where you live but I always find it's people in remote white villages who think the UK has no issues. Of course it does. I live in London and love it but there are definitely issues here which do need addressing one way or another. Labour and Tories don't seem to want to do this (I'm married to a refugee by the way and many of my relatives have been refugees from 15 years ago). But I recognise things here are getting out of hand and whether it upsets you or not it's the reality. It's not about creating division or hate but about addressing the issues we are living with.

You have got to be joking. The BBC could not be any more left wing bias if they tried.

It is astonishing.

He didn't actually repeat Musk calling Phillips a "rape genocide apologist" or the lie that Starmer "failed to prosecute" child abusers - but when asked about it, simply said it was tough, robust free speech and didn't disagree with it. He's an expert shit-stirrer. He's wound Musk up and now gets to sit pretty pontificating on his manufactured 'scandal'.

So he didn’t say anything inflammatory or libelous then.

That’s that settled. No frothing at the mouth required. And their thread was basically started on a lie.

Totally agree - I am appalled - he and Tice are everywhere. Tice was also on Sky news this morning just talking over Trevor Phillips.
It reminds me of Emily Maitlis' reference to false equivalence.
We would all hopefully support free speech but we should be hearing from all politicians. Why don't the Greens and other parties get equivalent airtime?
This feels less like free speech and more like propaganda.

No he wasn’t talking over him, he was quite rightly pointing out that nobody cares about the Tommy Robinson shit, we want to know what happened with the raping gangs. If Philips actually asked him the questions we’re actually interested in, the interview would have been much more useful. Tice was simply trying to get to the topic people actually care about.

Aaron95 · 05/01/2025 13:04

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 05/01/2025 10:15

There are 5 Reform MPs. That is all.

But the party got 14% of the votes cast.

Almn0etd · 05/01/2025 13:05

It’s funny how the genius on here are able to decipher that Musk has been wound up and he is some sort of puppet.

Oh the irony of people who only have the capacity to regurgitate what they see in the guardian, telling Musk he has been duped. That would be Musk, the guy who is literally in the incoming administration of the most powerful government on earth and the richest guy in the world. It’s actually comical.

"Suspect the op was counting on support from the mumsnet echo chamber. Looks like those days are over lol"

Globally there is definitely a shift to right wing politics as we can see in Italy, France, Germany and the US. This is on a number of different issues such as economics, immigration or trans identity.

I think the backlash from the left is interesting and angry because left wing politics has always been based on the concept of oppressor and the oppressed or bourgeoisie and proletariat. What is now happening is that those shifting to the right are saying to those on the left "I don't care anymore if you feel oppressed or a victim- get over yourself ".

Heylittlesongbird · 05/01/2025 12:02

I find it interesting that supporters of whichever party is in power accuse the BBC of being biased against them. That makes me think that they are probably doing impartial quite well.

Exactly

MurderousFrieda · 05/01/2025 13:16

This shift to the right was always going to happen. Britain has been so far left for so long (and I say that as a former Tory supporter) that the sharp swing to the right was always going to happen.

You can see it happening at astonishing speed. Germany, France, USA, Italy … and now the UK. Christ you can even see it on mumsnet! A couple of years ago if you were to post “Aibu to think Farage (or equivalent) makes a lot of sense?” You would have been absolutely hounded. Post it now and half of the thread will agree with you.

It all went too far left. Concerns were ignored, people started getting pissed off … now it’s going to swing too far right.

I actually blame the tories, if they had kept things more balanced this wouldn’t be happening (in the UK at least)

"So far left for so long"? When we've had a right wing Tory government for 14 years?

saraclara · 05/01/2025 13:20

"So far left for so long"? When we've had a right wing Tory government for 14 years?

What planet have you been living on.

Tories, right wing?

How?

Record illegal and legal migration.
Record government and welfare spending
Highest ever taxation (until now that Labour are in power)
Stagnant economy on life support
More people now net takers from the public purse than net contributors
Trans madness and state sponsored mutilation of children
DEI, BLM and other corrupt ideologies infiltrating public life

That’s left wing politics on speed.

Do you even know the difference between left and right, or do you just regurgitate what you see in the guardian.

MurderousFrieda · 05/01/2025 13:27

Right wing? You have to be kidding. Since the tories got in immigration has spiralled out of control and women have had their rights taken away in favour of “trans rights” … Christ even the NHS started using terms such as “people who have periods” and “people with a uterus” under the tories. And I voted for them.

I won’t be making that mistake again.
