Honestly, apart the odd few most of them are absolutely rubbish! But they seem to be taking over prime time TV 😕

I agree. Especially on a Saturday night. No one needs game shows on several channels at prime time.

ChristmasGrinch24 · 04/01/2025 20:29

Agree.

Game shows should only be allowed at 5pm for a hours time slot. Who even watches them?

FizzyBisto · 04/01/2025 20:31

I couldn't disagree more. I love most of the game/quiz shows - although some are just stupid and irritating.

Personally, I think there's way too much sport on, flooding the schedules - especially when they overrun and totally wreck the timings for all the other programmes. I realise that my view would have many people shouting in anger, mind!

Jennwrenn · 04/01/2025 20:33

There always used to be mainly game or chat shows on Saturday night TV, I liked it! I think with the advent of steaming and having so many dramas and films on tap it makes sense to have game shows (which would be unlikely to attract huge numbers on global streaming services) on actual TV.

Jc2001 · 04/01/2025 20:33

Does anyone actually watch live TV anymore?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 04/01/2025 20:36

Hard agree - i get the impression that like reality tv and comedian-parent travel shows, they're cheap to make

I only like the chase and lingo so I just avoid them

The worst for me was bringing back deal or no deal - like, surely no-one is enjoying it?

glittertime · 04/01/2025 21:05

If you dont like it dont watch it.
I dont own a tv so i dont see anything.

Not really, seriously debating ending my TV licence. Christmas TV has been shocking, repeats or normal shows with Christmas in the title. I pay for prime and netflix and have watched most things, but it would be nice to watch a decent drama for once on normal TV. I miss shows like motherland, only fools and horses or royal family.

I'm at my mother in laws. She watches this stuff.
By the time The Masked Singer came on I wanted to curl up and cry.
What did Graham Norton do wrong to be punished by having to present Wheel of Fortune 😂😂
I still don't understand the rules of Pointless.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

With Pointless you need to get the lowest score so a more obscure answer.

I love quiz shows - we love Pointless, The Chase and 1% Club (DS' favourite!)

erihskreb · 04/01/2025 21:23

I love quiz shows like Pointless and House of Games - those are pretty much the only things I watch on actual tv. Much better that than another boring prime time drama!

scoobs321 · 04/01/2025 21:29

Yes I was just saying that to DP tonight and Wheel of Fortune with Graham Norton was just dire. Honestly it's such boring TV.

ExtraOnions · 04/01/2025 21:30

Quiz / Game shows, that most channels think can only be presented by men …

Needmorelego · 04/01/2025 21:31

@Bloom15 so with Pointless does the answer have to be correct but is the answer is the one the least amount of people gave?

Alittlebitfluffy · 04/01/2025 21:44

Yeah this.

I LOVE the traitors though.

Yes - so countries in Australasia as an example.

Both Australia and Tuvalu would be correct but you'd win with Tuvalu. I think they interview 100 people with the questions so you're playing against the general public and what they said.

Legendofthelostkeys · 04/01/2025 23:26

Prime time TV in the 70s when I were a lass was full of game shows. The Generation Game, Celebrity Squares, 321... used to love them!
I now enjoy The Chase, Only Connect and House of Games.

Needmorelego · 04/01/2025 23:35

@Bloom15 ah that makes sense.
I would watch it and think if they needed an answer that the least amount of people gave then why don't they give a completely wrong answer.
But if the answer they give has to actually be a correct answer then I get it now !
😂

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 04/01/2025 23:38

I'd sooner have game shows than interminable reality TV!!!

I believe fucking Love Island is due back again... yuck!!!

Optigan · 04/01/2025 23:41

I don't mind the more serious quiz shows; the problem with most of the others is the endless gab with the contestants - does anyone really care about Julie's nine grandchildren or Dave's 'hilarious' anecdote from work?

Lambington · 04/01/2025 23:44

Havnt watched live tv (or paid for a licence) in over 10 years. I'm always shocked when I do see any (eg when visiting parents) just how rubbish 'normal TV' is. And the adverts are just wall to wall! I don't know how so many people bare to watch it day after day!

Drivingoverlemons · 04/01/2025 23:46

Some people love game shows. I don’t really so never think about them.

There was loads on BBC at Christmas that I liked though. I guess everyone is different, hence there being plenty of quiz shows despite you and I not liking them.

GingersOwner26 · 04/01/2025 23:47

ChristmasGrinch24 · 04/01/2025 20:29

Agree.

A lot of my family. They are possibly the only people who watch that Challenge channel that has loads of old repeats. I don’t see the appeal myself tbh.

RightOnTheEdge · 05/01/2025 00:00

I totally agree about the waffling on wth the contestants at the start. I really don't care, just get on with it!

My first thought was yes there are too many but then I thought that I actually do like a lot of them,

House of Games
The Chase
Pointless
The 1% Club
Mastermind
And that thing with Allan Carr and the pictures!
Oh and The Hit List, if that counts.

Totallybannanas · 05/01/2025 00:13

I like 1% club and the chase, as it's funny and a good brain work out. Some of the ones ok on BBC though are so boring like Tenable and Pointless. Also can't stand question time. I just feel it's over run with game shows.
