Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

Hmm I see what you mean. In answer to your original post I don't think anyone has answered your question in providing any quotes of actually being racist.

However there were accusations that he may have faked being good at computer games and at his age for some unknown reason apparently this may indicate racism??

Anyway the point is that he is no fan of the current left wing Labour Government. And as a result those on the left rather than present a structured counter argument instead revert to form of trying to silence opposing views by accusing him of racism, anti semitism, drug addiction, mental ill health and a new one on me "being a computer game cheat".

All this proves to me is that the real threat to freedom of speech and the real threat to democracy today is very much coming from the intolerant left.

U might not agree with my posts but I absolutely did give example with tweets, of musk coming across racist. U must have convinently missed them.

Do u think fascism or being a dictator is a threat to democracy?
Also if a threat to freedom of speech is such a no go to u, why does musk deletes posts he doesn't like or ban people from his platform that he disagrees with, not be considered as the opposite of freedom of speech?

Also if u belive the 'left' is a genuine threat to democracy? Then how are they? Like how will they tear down democracy and what will they have in place?
A fascist dictatorship is a genuine threat to democracy regardless if u belive it's happening or will. But what is a ' left threat ' if its a genuine threat we should be able to know what it actually consists of?

chicken2015 · 13/01/2025 23:31

Or is it just a way to dismiss a genuine concern by just accusing the opposition of same to try and deflect .

In the first instance the left is seeking to silence opposing views either through firstly by shouting down, secondly by false accusations of racism etc and finally through the legal system (for example calls for Musk to be charged with libel over his tweet about Jess Philips).

Interestingly two central tenets of fascism is the silencing of opposing views and state ownership of businesses, industries and infrastructure. Both of which are currently to be found in the left and not the right.

Once you have silenced opposing views then there is effectively only one "legitimate opinion or political view". At this point democracy is most definitely under threat.

I'm not sure we're in any danger of having Elon Musk's voice suppressed. It's his voice that seems to one of the loudest right now. He personally steers the narrative on X, is one of the close circle of advisors to Trump, and whatever he says on X is then the prevailing issue of the next week.

How is this not troubling to you? It is Elon Musk and the people around him that are a threat to democracy, not the left. You have it the wrong way around.

But isn’t the trend there basically commenting on the hatred that is directed towards white people and the hand wringing over white history

But it’s the equivalent of a racist bleating “all lives matter “ when they don’t like the Black Lives Matter movement.

i totally agree with the earlier post saying racism is also about actions not just direct words. Musk proves how racist he is over and over again by his actions of retweeting and liking racist tweets. Many examples of which have been given here.

obviously other racist people will deny seeing the racism in that.

I am curious as to which people are extreme left and what is extreme left? Like extreme right is fascist dictator, what is the opposite? I have no idea! and I have seen the rise of extreme right being normalised since trump got in in 2016. Project 2025 is Christian nationalism which is very extreme right. We will see how much of project 2025 happens but trump has appointed the lead author in a position and a lot of authors was ex trump govemrent first time around
I see no obvious extreme left.
This both sides is always thrown around. It just seems like accuse the opposition of the same

Well let’s look at some extreme left ideologies. Denying the very existence of biology, using it to remove women (far left is always anti woman) from the work place, remove their dissenting voices. It was been used to operate and disfigure young people to use inappropriate drugs on them to alter natural biological processes. Silencing and ostracising anyone who dares to disagree.

Those who spread the lies of critical race theory the rewriting of history to villify certain groups.

See who has been spreading these kinds of ideologies and you’ll see the far left

And really quite uneducated. It’s all about context isn’t it. And “all lives matter” been used to shut down the conversation about racism

Why is it so offensive to say ‘all lives matter’?

Michael McCormack used a phrase that reveals prejudice during his stint as acting Prime Minister.

exactly. I’m still interested to see what Labours “solution” will be when lots of those who inherit businesses have no way to pay the IHT because Labour curtailed business property relief so much.

There are indeed calls by left wing Governments across Europe for the banning of X and suggestions that Musk himself be arrested if he steps foot in certain countries. Some institutions such as Universities have gone further and banned the use of X.

However despite these attempts to suppress X and freedom of speech I think that you are correct in that these attempts will be successful. Banning X would only make it more popular and prove the point that the left wish to suppress opposition.

Regarding him "steering the prevailing issues" , he is an advisor to Trump and as per the job description, it's his job to advise Trump. Whether Trump agrees or not is his choice.

It’s not a “silly comment” at all. Can you honestly not see that it is this kind of mantra that has lead the far right to gain traction.

Yes you can go into an argument over the legitimacy of the phrase, I understand that argument - but the vast majority of people hear a soundbite and ask themselves that “silly question”. It’s like the term “ white privilege” yes there’s an academic discussion around the phrase. But to a dad living in terrible accommodation, who can’t feed his kids telling him he has white male privilege is inflammatory. It’s this kind of ideology the lack of understanding of people, often from people who have never stuck their nose out of academia, that has led to the far right gaining a foothold.

Reetpetitenot · 14/01/2025 07:50

1dayatatime, do you have a thought on when freedom of speech becomes hate speech and if anything should be done about it? Twitter was always a bit of a cesspit, but now, the absolute filth allowed to stand - really nasty misogyny, racism, incitement to violence. It's so full of hate and has seemingly issued a clarion call to certain individuals and sections of society that they can absolutely say what they like with no consequence.

You bemoan censorship and the loss of free speech, but by it's very nature, Twitter censors content - the powerful algorithms ensure you have your beliefs bolstered, Musk's own tweets are usually at the forefront.

As for your claims about Labour's track record, you do see that the US and Germany's borrowing rates have increased by pretty much exactly the same rates as the UK?

U think the right are being shouted down right now? The fact musk is even able to have a voice is frankly bizarre! He is the owner of a social media network , he has no rights at the table of British goverment!

And just because u disagree with if he is racist, doesn't nessasery mean that he isn't racist it just means u don't see it!

Libel is incredibly hard to prove in uk, if he looses a case for libel it's because he was liable!

"Interestingly two central tenets of fascism is the silencing of opposing views and state ownership of businesses, industries and infrastructure. Both of which are currently to be found in the left and not the right."

Hate speech is not welcome in a civilised society, its nothing about silencing opposing views! And no idea where we are trying to have state ownership of business, industries and infrastructure where is this being found???? The is no scary left wing killing democracy! It's a scare tactics to drive traffic to right wing spaces! And let's be honest it's working! I'm curious have u heard of cambridge analytica and what the right did to get support at brexit and in US with trump in 2015?

Perhaps being banned from writing words on social media screens would be a good start. Or do you think everyone should be able to say/write what they want, everywhere, all the time? Or where would you personally draw the line?

Far left is always anti women! Have u seen what happebing in US with abortion rights!
Right so anti trans is ur issue! So allowing people to be who they want , is a problem to people who r not going to be effected at all.

Those who spread the lies of critical race theory the rewriting of history to villify certain groups
What u mean when right wing nuts in US ban books ? Who is spreading lies of critical race theory?

It all seems just so culture wars, like no real substance for the ending of democracy! Like u haven't said anything that is a genuine threat! Which let's be honest u wasn't able to do ! It's all hypothetical fear and culture wars to wipe people up into a frenzy, sad really

chicken2015 · 14/01/2025 08:13

Also like to say have anyone read project 2025 and what Christian nationalism is all about , if ur definitely 100% in the right wing space u surely would be happy with what Christian nationalism is all about. Farage has already mentioned abortion in goverment like it needs to be mentioned at all.in uk. Its a slippery slope! And I'd also like to ask if fascist dictator is the extreme right and that is what we get, would that be OK? Like r u OK with all thay goes with it? Noone has answered that. So if the 'left' fear is realised is that a worry for u?

1dayatatime · 14/01/2025 08:14

@Feelingathomenow

"And what mental health problems have you diagnosed in someone you’ve (presumably) never met?"

That faking being good at computer games at the age of 50 is apparently a strong diagnosis of mental health problems.

I'm surprised that you haven't been asked this question before on any health questionaires. You know, how much do drink, smoke, do you have any sleep difficulties, do you feel depressed, are you a man in your 50s that cheats at computer games etc.

ShesNotACowShesAFox · 03/01/2025 21:51

Is it also OK that he is an unelected person being allowed an incredible amount of power over world politics?

To me, it isn’t ok that the world is such a shit show with spineless and scaredy cat leaders, it has to take celebrities shouting about things before anything gets done.

The way Labour are dismissing child rape victims is fucking criminal. Especially when they spent the summer “fast tracking” convictions of people who did things like shout at dogs or post nasty tweets. Nothing has been learnt from Rotherham and they’re making the problem the responsibility of a skint and biased local authority whose interest is to save their own skin from a scandal. Fucking atrocious. I don’t care who or what it takes, whether it’s Elon Musk or someone else unlikable, it needs to be talked about and needs to be addressed.

What a load of bollocks.
