Sorry, when did the right wing ever give a shit about social workers ?

About the same time it started caring about kids in poverty.

SerendipityJane · 04/01/2025 12:30

I think it would set very clear guidelines. Anyone who works with children & the vulnerable needs to receive police clearance & safeguarding training, that is the law. Why were so many women & children failed ?

You mean like what I had when I was IT manager at an education and training provider ? Because ... well because it was the law ?

You'll be suggesting we have elected representatives next. Radical.

But many individuals who worked with many of the abused across the country have had this training & were given police clearance to enable them do their jobs.
Why did they fail these women?
Was it inadequate training?
Not fully understanding their role in safeguarding?
Why were these women failed?

So you think safeguarding breaches with no consequences are acceptable?

Edited

All jobs have consequences, from disciplinary to sacking to prosecution depending on the circumstances. If someone breaks the law in any job they can be arrested and imprisoned. What you seem to be suggesting is that if someone makes a mistake then they can be arrested and imprisoned. Who in their right mind is going to agree to that in any job?

There should be no mistakes in safeguarding children & the vulnerable. And very definite legislation will make thay very clear.

All humans make mistakes. You will have no one implementing the safeguarding if they are working under the threat of prosecution as they just won’t take the job and then more vulnerable people will suffer.

But won’t be worth the paper it’s written on since not making mistakes will be unenforceable. All you will do is force the good workers out with the bad.

Deranged? How was this allowed happen on such a massive scale ? How many young girls were utterly failed by those whose job it was to protect them? Are you saying all those girls were victims of "mistakes " as well as the rapists.
How & why were these women failed?

How is legislating against mistakes going to help anything?

You keep asking the same questions over and over and over again. Have you even read the inquiry? You’ll find the majority of your answers in there.

The responsible institution need to put the correct procedures in place and governance. People acting in isolation will make mistakes. People acting under the correct compliance regime will have to be negligent to make mistakes.

Why were those girls failed by those paid to protect them?
Why were there so many safeguarding failures?

Elon Musk has “politicised” the rape of young girls in the UK in an attempt to attack Keir Starmer, a former health worker who exposed a major paedophile ring has told the Guardian.

Sara Rowbotham, who gathered evidence that led to the imprisonment of nine men in Rochdale, said the tech billionaire had launched a “political swipe” at the prime minister that overlooked the plight of abuse survivors.

Talking of 'political swipes' the Guardian forgets to mention that Sara Rowbotham has recently served as a Labour councillor (I think she stood down at the last council elections - she was re-elected in 2019);

2017 Sara Rowbotham is a Labour councillor and deputy leader of Rochdale borough council.

And?

Do you agree with Musk?

poetryandwine · 04/01/2025 12:56

@HellsBalls said that under a compliance regime only the negligent can make mistakes.

I disagree, although her response is a thoughtful one.

Cooking is a good analogy. It is virtually impossible to write recipe instructions so clear and detailed that a proportion of beginner and intermediate cooks don’t mess them up. Experience matters.

I expect professional safeguarding, like any job, works similarly.

I don't have a clue, it's you who hasn't a clue with your pathetic attempts of derailing .

I'm asking you again
Do you agree those women were failed by those to protect them?
Do you think that those who fail to safeguard the vulnerable should face consequences?

I’m not attempting to derail. I can just see you for what you are and I’m not playing your games. You don’t care about these girls anymore than Musk does.

Councillors of all stripes are allowed opinions, and likely to be well informed.
