To think "The Traitors" is the biggest load of guff on TV?

It's stupid. There's no game at the heart of it. It's like Deal Or No Deal for prime time.

OP is being contrary but she has a point- the game doesn’t make sense - it is loaded in favour of the traitors and I read somewhere that random guee were as likely if not more likely to be correct than the faithfuls. That said the first series of the Australia series was actually quite strategic and in another series someone actually laid a trap for a traitor and caught them out. However- people get banished for being different or too smart and I agree the challenges are dull.

I like it.

Particularly enjoyed watching the new first section on the train - where 3 people had to get off but what 3 people. Fascinating. The carriage where one guy mentioned he might think about it. Resulting in the rest of the pack immediately smelling blood.. well… if you think you should go… Human nature / pack mentality / survival in action.

That was funny. His sweet naive delusion that once he suggested doing it other people would jump in too. Bless him.

TV shows that are utter shite:
I'm A Celebrity GMOOH
Loose Women
Mrs Brown's Boys
Married at First Sight
Real Housewives of......anywhere
Coronation St
Emmerdale
Any sports programme
Anything with Vernon Kay or Tess Daley in it
Anything with Greg Davies, Rosie Jones, Noel Fielding, Jenny Eclair, Jimmy Carr, Lee Hurst, David Walliams in it
Anything with talentless, past-it celebs or people who are only Z list celebs because they appear in 'celeb type' shows'
Anything with Katie Price, Kerry Katona or a footballer's wife/girlfriend in it.

What type of things do you like for light entertainment?

I'd agree with your list.

I DO like to watch Race Across the World with my 2 young adult children. I like to watch the relationships and the interaction between the pairs ,and how they respond to setbacks etc, or develop as people. I'm fully aware a lot of that is set up eg the jobs on the way.

DDivaStar · 02/01/2025 23:04

Its based on peoples thoughts, emotions and decisions. That makes it interesting regardless of the demographic in there.

YourGladSquid · 02/01/2025 23:06

The lady’s hair unsettles me 🥷

It's a TV phenomenon. I am seeking to understand why. Your own lack of perception about me tells me that there is not some layer of psychological insight that I might be missing.

😮

DarkAndTwisties · 02/01/2025 23:07

How does it become strategic? The only strategy is "don't behave like how you think a a traitor might behave which, if you are sensible, if how you would behave anyway."

Well no that's not true because when you're nearing the end the traitors have to (well they don't have to) turn on each other to get all the money for themselves. So doing that in a way that doesn't throw backfire or cast suspicion on themselves is a strategy.

Endofyear · 02/01/2025 22:53

I've never watched it so I watched an episode tonight to see what all the fuss is about! I thought it was rubbish, people crying and saying how hard it is - haven't they only been in there a couple of days?? I found it really boring to be honest and the contestants were all annoying 🙄

If you've not watched it before I'd go back to series 1. There's less of the histrionics, if I'm remembering correctly!

OK, but that's after 11/12 episodes!

It's all built in the edit.

See, that's why I like it. I admire it for its storytelling.

I like the way the editors/producers/creators can craft a compelling narrative with whatever guff they have been handed.

I am interested in their choices and how they take the audience along for the ride.

I like that I can watch it simultaneously with my uni kids, and we can whatsapp back and forth and say 'omg' and 'what the hell did they do that for' and 'god they're all so stupid' and 'why won't anyone LISTEN to Jaz?'

(If you want to chat shit about it, those are my starters for 10)

Fuck knows.

Haven’t you asked?

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 02/01/2025 23:19

I watched for the first time after all the hype and was underwhelmed!

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 23:21

I like Claudia Winkleman, btw. She's smarter than this guff.

Sure. But they haven't given very good answers so I thought I'd ask here.

@chollysawcutt i agree so much with this! I’m in a couple of different Traitor WhatsApp groups with different friends, and I love love love all the texting and chat about it. And seriously… WHY DID NO ONE LISTEN TO JAZ?!?!

ForZanyAquaViewer · 02/01/2025 23:24

I think it’s great fun. I don’t care who wins or about the tasks, it’s just very entertaining to watch the personalities interact and the groupthink. I LOVE the round table. I used to feel the same way about the Apprentice - zero interest in the tasks, loved the boardroom. It’s fascinating how people present themselves and the manner in which they fight their corner.

I think Traitors is interesting if you find people - and how they function in groups - interesting.

What would you consider a good answer, though? As you don’t seem very satisfied with the ones you’ve been given here, either.

Do you have shows you enjoy? Do you have ‘good’ reasons for enjoying them? If so, what are they, please?

ConstanceM · 02/01/2025 23:26

Just another over hyped nonsensical show.
Cannot tolerate more than 5 mins of nepo winkelman either.

Funny you say that. There Is another thread on here from someone else asking the same question as OP.. 🤔

There are plenty of good answers on this thread. Your answer a few posts above this is good. Chollysawcutt's answer a few posts above that is good.

I can watch other similar "trashy" formatted TV without getting nearly as annoyed. Even something as dumb and manufactured as Four In A Bed has all of the psychology and people-watching and groupthink of The Traitors but is based on something genuine - the pride and snobbery the contestants have about their businesses/homes/tastes rather than the... "nothing" that sits at the heart of The Traitors.

I love it, the last series was incredible.

however I am noticing more of the contestants are ‘love island’ style than before and that’s not as good

I noticed that too; the other two series there was a greater range of ages, as I recall.

Can’t be that bad if it’s on series 3.

Name a show that you do like OP.

Can’t be that bad if it’s on series 3

To use the TV entertainment equivalent of Godwin's Law - Mrs Brown's Boys.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/01/2025 00:00

The game is Werewolf, but quite a hard variant because you have to be alive at the end to win. I think that makes it very hard for the faithful because they can only be selfless team players to an extent, they have to prioritise staying alive.
